Gundam Build Fighters' Producer Hints At 2nd Season?
A recent interview by Akiab-Souken with Sunrise producer, Masakazu Ogawa, vaguely hints at a possible 2nd season of the popular Gundam Build Fighters series.
The producer states that the ratings of the series were well received by Bandai, and that he is aware of noises wanting to do something for the fans of the series. However, the producer also mentioned that Sunrise's plate is quite full with the upcoming release of Gundam: G no Reconguista and Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN, both currently at various stages of production.

Hell yeah! After the disappointment of AGE, this series was suprisingly good. It did lack main characters moving on to their respected mobile suits like Wing Zero, Gundam DX, Freedom Gundam. I really want to see a second season featuring something like Wing Zero Fenice, Gundam DX Maoh, or Build Freedom Gundam (Build Strike Freedom)! I can only hope!:)

DeleteUnicorn is ending and Origin is a remake (since it's four movies releases will be even slower than Unicorn). On top of that Reconguista in G appears to be movie as well (who knows what that has to do with ANYTHING). Build Fighters was great (I mean really great) but the core UC storyline needs to be moved forward :COUGH: Hathaway's Flash :COUGH: Crossbone Gundam :COUGH:
DeleteOnline X-bone is significant enough to get an anime, Hathaway is way too short and insignificant, it may get a 2-3 OVA treatment though. But seriously, I like UC but I would rather have big time skip and have a totally new story. No nonsense like Gato doing the same shit Char did or another Puru clone still continue to die decades later. I would love to see a series on the ending time of UC and pre-stage of G-reconguista.

ReplyDeleteGBF has been an awesome show compared to Age. Every gunpla battle is so exciting to watch. There are times when the viewer would already expect the RG system will help win the day and boom something creative saves the day.
And Reiji and Aila's ending is the best. gotta love those two
You're trolling with some of that right? Don't get me wrong I loved the characters and the mechs, but towards the end it was just bs plot magic rather than good story telling. If they made a second season they would need to make it less predictable or focus on more characters

I know economy is not that good worldwide and this is a very good way for bandai to do well talking about money, but me personally I would not like at all a new GBF season 2.
just saying, but its thanks to build fighters and the all gundam project that we ARE getting all of the amazing new HGUC gunpla right now, eg. crossbone gundam, victory gundam, etc. but i do agree that there are waaay to many strike redesigns already.

DeleteBuild Strike is a Strike in-name only. I mean, that looks nothing like a strike from the show (and so is the customized gunpla in the show). Also people will always complain like "new designs suuucckzz the old one's better!!". They just can't please everyone.

DeleteIt looks almost exactly like the Strike from Seed - the torso is identical, the legs are identical, the head is barely different, the arms are nearly identical. The ONLY major difference between the base Build Strike and the original Strike are its larger shoulders and the hips - which look almost identical to those of the Akatsuki, which is itself a Strike variant anyway.

ReplyDeleteBuild Fighters as a series has wrapped up its story. The only real plot thread that totally needs explaining is Arian, and that'll probably be in some manga side story. You'd need totally new characters and a totally new and workable plot for a second season to work

More isn't always better. SEED was a decent series and then Destiny came along and soured people on both series. Build Fighters was a good series because the episode count allowed for stronger pacing than the standard 50 episode series. The story was also relatively simple and complete; and the characters were earnest, uncomplicated and likable. These are all elements likely to be missing from a sequel. Build Fighters is popular and allows for plenty of model kits into the future. Let this series end on a high note instead of dragging its legacy through dirt for greed's sake.

ReplyDeleteThe season was awesome, I was expecting 1 or 2 episodes to be boring, you know like a filler but I actually loved every single episode I watched. I wanna see a season 2 where Reiji and Iori keep their promise and battle it out or at least have a tag battle.
What a great news! Could definitely see some more ReijiXAila moments, and also Reiji vs Sei fights. Hopefully they do take the time on making it and not rush it just to feed the hype.

ReplyDeleteGundam Build Fighters inspired me to hunt down a bunch of old unfinished Gunpla I've had in storage for years, as well as order a bunch of new stuff (Zaku Amazing, Amazing Booster, GM Sniper K9, Miss Sazabi, HGCC Turn A Gundam, and currently waiting on a Gundam X Maoh and a HGFC Nobel Gundam). I would absolutely adore another season of Build Fighters.

... And since when has any main character been not a kid? The only exception to this is Shiro and Setsuna S2, and even then Setsuna had his kid moment in S1.

ReplyDeleteI'd be happy with an OVA. My fear is that a second season would be hard to flesh out without being too repetitive. It couldn't just be another story about winning the championship, because that's already been done. Even if they picked a new character to focus on, there has to be a new dilemma. Perhaps something to do with Plavsky particles, or learning more about Arian.

ReplyDeleteNothing personal. Just IMHO... Enough UC. Enough stories about imaginary universes. Enough seeing one group of people fight against another group of people because of their hatred of one another. GBF brings in a breath of fresh air... All characters are adorable and down to earth. It's hilarious to see what the characters were doing when they weren't fighting! The best of all is that no one died and everybody had a happy ending.
I want to know what's like living in Arian.
I want to see Reiji's parents.
I want to know what's going to happen to Reiji x Aila.
I want to see Reiji and Aila come back to compete with Sei and others in the next World Gunpla Tournament.

I don't even do Gunpla and I thought Build Fighters was fantastic. Especially after the catastrophe of Age. An OVA or movie showing us what became of Seiji and Alia would be nice.

ReplyDeleteCome a second season should be no suprise. Name one gundam series that was 25 episodes that didn't have a second season. Because I can't think of one. I would like too see a how new batch of custom suits meaning no repetitive wing or strike suits. Don't get me wrong I like the designs but id like some more verity. Like the crossbone x Mao was a totally unexpected design for example. Other than that I think a second season gbf light hearted story would compliment the seriousness of gundam origins very well.

There are far too many unanswered questions regarding Arian, as well as exactly how Reiji even made it to Earth in the first place. "How does the Arista work?"; "Is Arian a space colony?"; "If it is a colony, where did it come from?"; "Who made it and why?"; questions like these merit making a second season. There are more things I'd love to know, but these are the biggest ones that stand out.

On the other hand if they had a new character, with the world championships be against Sei, and figure out what all this Arian thing is really all about, could be amazing. ReplyDeletePretty sure it would be fine, provided the writing is awesome. For all the hate AGE had gotten it was pretty decent writing until it came to Kio Asuno's arc and everything fell apart due to UNDERSTANDING and lol character assassinations and PLOT. Flit and Asemu only got 15 episodes each to flesh out their own take in the saga, and I do believe it was really well done.

If I were to be the scriptwriter, all those reference to past events briefly mentioned does inspire me greatly in writing a prequel centering around the legendary Second Meijin Kawaguchi plus highlighting potential personal yet deadly feud between the former with both Renato brothers and McKenzie (also even in this prequel I might put Takeshi being assigned in a special team to investigate certain underground illegal Gunpla battles and accidentally discovering a sinister plot that is still ongoing even as the current season has ended!). Yet, the rather melancholic ending (to me at least!) plus the mystery clouding Reiji's origin inspires me to write a great sequel too! To be honest I have to agree the story is rather too cheesy yet in my opinion one can expect a great sequel. It may not necessarily be darker but with a much more complicated story line perhaps. How about this: The sequel takes place 2 @ 3 years after the first season with a mysterious organization has taken over the PPSE company and introducing a new format underlying tournament requiring fighters to move up through chains of tournament in group before eventually settling for individual matches in the last phase. Hoping to meet Reiji still, Sei enters the tournament for the 4th time together with Mao, Yuuki and a new prodigous character also a junior to both Sei and Yuuki. While the other groups might be one composed of Felini, Niels, Greeco+new character, a well militaristic trained group with Renato brothers members in it, another group of four second generation of Flana Institute'd graduates with high Embody plus a mysterious group made up solely of Arians (exclude Reiji) who come to Earth for special mission. And imagine in the middle of the story there is a deadly clash between the Arian's group with that of Sei takes place with the latter's gunplas almost to be destroyed yet saved by a mysterious clad figure with remodeled Freedom gundam whose skills remind Sei of Reiji's and a white hair lady faithfully accompanies him wherever he goes... Further then the mysterious new owner of PPSE has its own sinister plan to ramify the effect of Plaskvy particles at a larger scale to connect to the Arian world for global domination. Moreover, inspired by Sei's Star Build Strike, the new story gives rise to a whole new generation of innovative builders make fullest benefits of the Plaskvy particles' ability making competition tougher than in previous years. Imagine too Mao has grown taller and had fully mastered the Shingyo's deepest art. And, and... Well I leave the rest to imagination of the readers.

I'm keen on the idea of a sequel in all means,GBF has good animation, good mecha, decent characters, and of course the tribute to all the gundam shows. When I always watch it, I always try too look for the details on what cameos and lines they say that is like " Hey! I remembered that!". That feeling is nostalgia and this show gave rise to underrated gundams like X to have an MG and the all gundam project, manga and msv suits to be animated for the first time. If they make a season 2 it must be like 00 season 2 which is a good story that picks up from the 1st one an not like Seed Destiny where it completely was waste of time and used it as a profit. I hope they don't abuse it and turn it into a money pit. Instead make it like what fellow Gunpla enthusiast enjoy gunpla and invite more people to be part of it.

ReplyDeleteSince CEO of PPSE went back to Aria and Reiji took his Beginning Gundam with him, I can see CEO making a particle machine in Aria and Reiji modifiying his Beginning Gundam to battle Sei and his Build Freedom Gundam Cosmos (hoping haha). Kinda like Earth Gunpla vs Aria Gunpla Battle.

ReplyDeleteReally wish for a 2nd season, but please no more downgrading characters like reiji... looks so badass in the 1st episode but kept becoming a noob as the show goes on... it really hurts to see the main pilot to win nonsensically, the rg system makes sense for a most of the episodes but it brought the downfall of discharge, if they really intent to make build strike to be a boxer might as well make iori pilot a custom build maxter, the end of epi 24 was kinda hilarious though (exia titty crush~).
