Gundam Mini Theme Park to Open in April in Tokyo [via AnimeNewsNetwork]

Gundam Front Tokyo to open next to life-size Gundam statue on Odaiba island
The Japanese conglomerate Bandai announced on Sunday that it will open a miniature theme park called Gundam Front Tokyo at Diver City Tokyo — next to the 1/1-scale Gundam statue that is being rebuilt there. Starting on April 19, the general public can visit both the Gundam Front Tokyo "entertainment space" and the statue on Tokyo's artificial island of Odaiba.
Gundam Front Tokyo will be on the seventh floor of Diver City Tokyo Plaza, and the 2,050-square-meter (about 22,000-square-foot) space will charge admission (1,000 yen or US$13 for adults), although some areas will be free. The paid-admission zones will feature a 16-meter-wide (52-foot-wide) hemispherical dome theater for immersive videos, a project display zone with rare production materials, an archive counter that will offer visitors information on various Gundam projects, and "photospots" for taking pictures within the world of Gundam (with characters). The free zones will include a display of the plastic models throughout the franchise's history and a Gundam Apparel Shop.
The plaza will also have an official shop for character goods and the second Gundam Café on the second floor. (The first café opened in Tokyo's Akihabara district in 2010.)
Bandai, the anime studio Sunrise, and Gundam rights holder Sotsu established a Gundam Front Tokyo Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) on January 24 to run the project.

Life-Size Gundam Shot During Day & Night in New Time-Lapse Video [via AnimeNewsNetwork]

Recorded on 3 occasions during the 1st 2 weeks of the new year
In a new video posted on Sunday, self-described "Gundam videographer" darwinfish recorded time-lapse footage of the 1/1-scale Gundam statue at Odaiba during daytime and nighttime. He shot the statue on three occasions during the first two weeks of the year.
The statue is being rebuilt at Diver City Tokyo, a complex under construction on the island by Mitsui Fudosan and Fuji TV. The grand opening is slated for April 19, but the mostly complete statue can already be seen from afar. The life-size statue first stood at Odaiba in July of 2009 and attracted 4.15 million visitors before it closed the following month.
The statue rose again in Shizuoka — the self-described "model capital of the world" and the home of Bandai's plastic model factories — from July of last year to March of this year. The statue did return to Tokyo in August — in disassembled parts — as a charity drive after the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster.
The videographer has posted several other videos chronicling the reconstruction of the Gundam since construction began.

1/1 RX-78-2 Gundam Statue @ Diver City Tokyo (Odaiba)
The 1/1 Scale RX-78-2 Gundam statue will once again be standing tall in Japan! Starting from Spring 2012 thru March 2013 , the 1/1 Gundam will be on display in front of Diver City Tokyo (Odaiba, Tokyo).
I will be heading to Tokyo again this year during mid May, and I think I should be able to visit the 1/1 Gundam Statue again since the last time I saw this guy in Japan back in summer 2010.  Will be meeting with some old and new friends this year.  I guess I will share more about this upcoming trip later...

Life-Size Gundam's Final Touches Shot in Time-Lapse [via AnimeNewsNetwork]

Statue returns to Odaiba island next year after nearly 3 years away
The self-described "Gundam videographer" darwinfish has been streaming two new time-lapse videos of the 1/1-scale Gundam statue's reconstruction at Odaiba since last week. The videos (dated December 17 and December 23) feature the final touches on assembly and the exterior. According to darwinfish, the area surrounding the statue was also undergoing construction, now that the statue is largely finished.

The statue is being rebuilt at Diver City Tokyo, a complex under construction on the island by Mitsui Fudosan and Fuji TV. The life-size statue first stood at Odaiba in July of 2009 and attracted 4.15 million visitors before it closed the following month.
