The Mobile Suit that has only appeared in MSV is now MG form and the only thing that interest me in this Model Kit is the new Gatling Gun weapon there.
The only MG RX-78 I've built was a G3 2.0, and I know that the 3.0 looks almost exactly like the RG, but is this Heavy Gundam based on one of the older pre-2.0 RX-78 MGs? It doesn't look like it borrows anything from 2.0 or 3.0, which is very odd, because usually, almost all of the new variations would be re-engineered from the newest base, but, save this one, they've been using 2.0. RX-78-2 3.0 wasn't a bad kit, was it? I don't think I've seen any P-Bandai RX-78 variants use it as a base since it was released.
If you have to ask the question of which kit was used as the base kit. Then this kit is to complicated for you. Look at the hands and there's you biggest clue.
It was just for show. The lack of weapons was a kill sale point -for me-. 2.0 has the Super Napalm add-on,the Bazooka, the Gundam Hammer and the Beam Javelin,3.0 has the Beam Rifle and the Bazooka only. 2.0 has anime-accurate armor. Inner frames from both ver. don't differ too much, actually 3.0's frame it's almost a copy from the 2.0 so...why to pay 300 yen more for less?
99% of P-Bandai MG kits are on the 2.0 frame. My MG Buster Zeta was on a 2.0 Zeta frame and the recently announced MG GM Cannon is on the 2.0 GM frame. I doubt we'll be seeing any 3.0 frames anytime soon.
I prefered the 2.0. It was a little bit more solid than the 3.0.
Honestly, I kinda see a bit of One Year War version as a base for this Heavy Gundam. The head isn't from 2.0 or 3.0. The feet are very different from 2.0/3.0 too.
From the shoulder joint and the head sculpt, I am guessing this is based on an even older MG RX-78-2: the OYW. As for the 3.0, well it's too fragile to support large add ons like the gatling gun seen here. If you tried to do that with 3.0, I'm sure the arm would just fall off.
Apparently, it's based on the Perfect Gundam from 2003, which, even without the armor, was apparently a completely unique RX-78 mold. No other RX-78 MG has the Perfect Gundam's elbow joints.
This was one of my holy grail kits, and they went and made it an online exclusive, just like the Dozel Zaku and Grey Zeta before it. Bandai why do you hate me?
Why rhis day so many p bandai

DeleteSurprisingly I think this actually uses the Perfect Gundam as the base model. The hands and shoulder arm seem to match with that model.
