    1. This thing's actually a conversion build (using a MG Freedom inner frame). But yea, it confuses me why the torso looks like it was taken from a 1/144 kit.

    2. you're right.
Freedom torso is small. I have 1 MG Freedom. If you, or i, look closely, the proportion is bit off.
so, maybe someday i'll buy a conversion for MG Freedom. the RX78-2 always catch my atention.

  2. Confession time, I've always hated the RX-78 for how boxy it looks and how impossible the joints (especially legs to waist) are.

But this, this is just freaking awesome. I wish I could buy a kit of this.

    1. That's a rather unique opinion; I've hardly read the original Gundam being criticized that way. Besides, Zeon suits are bulkier by far; they make the RX-78-2 (whether original or the ungodly amount of redesigns) downright skinny in comparison (and the same goes for at least some other Fed MSs from the OYW and beyond). And it's not as if the joints were bad or impossible when it came to translating the design into Gunpla. It's more practical than giant bell-bottom legs half the Zeon suits have, and yet they're fine by me as MS designs.

And it's not as if the designs are practical when put to real life. You'll probably need something powerful (beyond a compact fusion reactor) to get the MSs to move the way they do with joints like that. (And if you hate the RX-78-2 with it's capped joints--which implies to me some extra gear or bulkier tech to bend the arm/leg--think of the skinny uncapped joints from other MSs in other Gundam anime.)

The RX-78-2 is a great design as is. Weird proportions--such as this take on the Gundam above--astonishes me. It looks so off from what the Gundam normally looks like. But the modeler did a good job, I'll give the person that.
