  1. Lots of clear green parts on the body but the spear? Come on Bandai, not everyone is going to get the MG.

    1. yea i was hoping that the model would have clear parts for the spear, but bandai cheaped out on us, a bit disappointing really. Its not the worst thing ever, but that's something that could have easily been avoided

    3. Check this out Teow. http://gundamguy.blogspot.com/2012/06/hg-1144-ghirarga-runner-review.html
Where exactly is the clear part on the 3rd pic? Looking at pic no. 6, there are a couple of huge, ugly green stickers which are disturbingly in the same shape as the spear tips.

This model looks like it was painted by pros.

  3. Jeez, Gundam fans nowadays, back in my day, the only colour youd get óut of the box for the HG G/Wing/X 1/144 scale are the PREDOMINANT COLOURS e.g. White, red or blue for Wing Gundam, White, blue, red yellow for GX; Red, Blue WHite for Gundam Maxter.

Nowadays, you're spoilt with MG esque semi articulation, close to anime proportions, accessories such as bit support parts (Cherudim and Gadess) and model stands, heck some kits even have clear parts and can even do full splits (HG 00 Gundam lineup eg 0 Gundam, Enact, Garazzo, Gadessa) not to mention decent colourway reproduction and minute panel line detailing.

Then came the excellent AGE HG series which comes close to MG features, albeit with small minute painting details missing (vents, clear parts on AGE 1 Titus, AGE 2 Normal) but outta the box pretty much all of the kits are anime accurate and neednt require paint (My HG Zedas & G Bouncer has not one ounce of paint on them, alas their simplistic design sorta allows that) unless you want to paint it professionally to add more oomph.

Would you rather have the HG 144 Ghirarga not have the yellow, white, clear green parts, awesome artciulation and a splittable staff/spear?

Bandai has been known to cut on costs, firstly to reduce the environmental impact of discarded pla gates, secondly to minimise expenditure , maintain cash flow in and maximize profits, at the same time allowing the modeller a wee bit of freedom to do with the model as they please.

Besides, if they do make an MG, all the better, you can really appreciate the detail, features etc an MG brings to the table not to mention the added size and heft. If not you're either stuck with this, the AG or the Gageing Builder, provided you put up with it's fisher price esque simplicity, lack of detail, poseability and features.

    1. You have a point with the qualities of MGs sir, but these are builders, like me, who are accustomed to the quality of the AGE kits, which are on a different level. One only needs to look at recent HGUC kits like the Anksha or Delta Gundam to see how massive the difference is.

The spear tips are not accessories and as such cannot be said to be "extra parts" which which contribute to environmental pollution. They are a vital part of the design and as such deserve special treatment. As you mention having the G-bouncer, which I too have, would you rather have had the Sigil Blade in white or clear green?

The model runner review shows that the spear is entirely black which make the tips, narrow as they are, difficult to paint. Which is what disappoints people. Stickers are fine for a while but they will eventually peel off. My Endless Waltz Deathscythe and Nataku, are proof of this.

As you mentioned, Bandai cuts costs and it is right to do so but definitely not at the expense of the quality it has recently shown it is capable of achieving. A couple of clear parts with a hole or a peg in them would only cost a few cents worth and they can charge it to the kit. I mean look at this kit! My eyes widened as I saw the first few images...then narrowed when I saw the spear.

Lastly, as I said on top, not everyone is going to get the MG. This mainly due to its price, size, complicated build, availability and whether or not there will be an MG version in the first place.

    2. Well yeah considering how MG's cost (the 'premium' ones with all the flight packs weapons accessories, usually the mid season upgrades are the most expensive).

I have the HGUC Sinanju my first Unicorn kit (love the proportions, the Ver Ka MG's head looks like its about to explode)

so i know what you mean there. But like i said, and Ebikawa intended this from the start, was the simplicity of the kits really contributed or hindered their pla equivalents e.g. minimalist designs of MG AGE 1 Normal, Titus, AGE 2 Normal (Apart from the clear parts, inner frame, panel lining, big scale, etc pretty much a big brother to the HGs.)

Put Zeydra and Sinanju beside each other, Ebi VS Ka, you'll see a simplistic Vagan take of the 2nd Red Comets suit. Pretty much a attribute or flaw of the design and line art, not the pla.

It is kinda disappointing in a way, seeing they made the clear green effect parts, but hey couldnt be more happier that i would be able to build Ghirarga outta the box with awesome imo articulation, accessories, CLEAR effect parts in the colour i like, colour seperation of an MG, heck such a far cry from the HG 144 Epyon (Ghirarga's tail is on a wire, fully flexible, the suit is slim and slender, poseable) as i can recall, HG 144 D Hell's Scythe was completely white including the effect parts! (although the HG Flag is guilty of having a completely white saber)

Bandai did that intentionally so you'll either buy an MG if made or find a way around it pla wise (cut the edges, get some spare clear green pla, you know the drill). I hate how they didnt release Seravee II in HG, a futile effort not to spoil anything for anyone who hadn't seen the movie, but technically they included the damn head, 'arms', legs with Raphael. With a bit of DIY, drilling holes, cutting parts, finding spare ball joints to fit and voila the torso fits the waist and you have a First Grade Seravee II. I guess people werent all too glad that they sold HG 144 Seravee and Seraphim normal seperately.

I only use foil decals if im too lazy or it complements the pla (Zedas' mono eye foil looks OK, but put fluorescent green instead and i bet that looks infinitely better, weh too lazy; MG 00 Qant's seperate eye foils i liked so i kept, but i markered the in between black)

Well what can we say, Bandai are plain stingy when it comes to entry/mid grade product lines. You have to get the premium edition as with most things to get the whole shebang

Well i think ill get the HG Ghirarga seeing as they haven't announced an MG Vagan suit release and looks unlikely as MG AGE 2 Normal has already been announced (HG Gafran must have not sold that much to warrant an MG like they purported to release, Zedas Zeydra or Ghirarga they're probably gauging consumer reaction polls first before risking)
