Thanks to the good people at Zeonic Scanlation, fans can enjoy the wonderfully translated Gundam manga series. Albeit sometime the wait between volumns can feel like ages. But nevertheless it is better than having no translated Gundam manga to read. So I have been following the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn --Bande Dessinee-- series, and for those who haven't read this series, it is a bit different from the novel / OVA version of the series.
And the difference began as early as the 2nd chapter. If you have seen the latest OVA episode 1, you would remember the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam doing a testing run within an area in space where there were lots of asteriods (high speed run dodging asteriods). In the manga the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam was actually tested in the same area but doing a mock battle exercise with friendly mobile suits.
So here is a glimpse with some of the manga scans (To see the full manga from chapter 1 - 4, go get'em from Zeonic|Scanlation)
The friendly mobile suits used in the mock exercise are actually Gundams!!!
The manga give us some info into this new mysterious Gundam. Seems like it is a mobile suit variation of the AMXZ-014 Doven-Wolf, a mobile suit that was developed by Neo Zeon (Led by Haman Karn). In the manga, no name was given or mentioned for this Gundam type. But if you look closely from the image above, you will see the label on the Gundam's shoulder labeling it as ID SEVEN MAGALLANICA. Maybe later chapters will give us more insight about these grunt type Gundams.
I hope this will become a HG 1/144 kit very soon... I truly hope.
When the Unicorn Gundam entered into Pseudo NT-D testing during the mock battle, the unit (or the pilot) went into some sort of berserk mode. The Unicorn Gundam tranformed into destroy mode, and the color of the suit was shaded in a fashion similiar to the Banshee Gundam. Yeah is all kinda weird, but perhaps later chapter will shed some light. But I guess the main idea here is that the test pilot was not compatible with the Unicorn Gundam. And obvioulsy we already know Banagher Links doesn't seem to have the same problem when he entered into NT-D mode with the Unicorn Gundam.
But anyways, to end things short.... The test pilot killed all his comrades and he himself also died, probably the NT-D mode psycho stuff fried his brains.
I surely look forward to reading more from this series, since it has elements that both novel / OVA doesn't includes.
Oh by the way, chapter 4 is out today, Go to Zeonic Scanlation to get it soon!
this mobile suit is called
