Following the challenge laid down by American robot company MegaBots at the end of June, the Japanese company Suidobashi Heavy Industry has responded and it seems that a giant robot duel between the two companies is very much on.
The creator of the Kuratas mecha, Kogoro Kurata, has responded in a similarly themed video (shown below) where he berates the opposition’s rather basic and dumb design. Following up by emphasizing that giant robots are part of Japanese culture, so losing is by no means an option for him.
Of the two mecha, the MegaBots entry is indeed fairly simple but with that comes reliability. The Kuratas on the other hand has a lot of sophisticated visual tracking technology as well as motion mapped hand controls.
The Kuratas also has an entirely enclosed cockpit with cameras in the head relayed to screens inside. The design is also reminiscent of mecha from the anime Armored Trooper VOTOMS, especially that of the X-ATH-P-RSC Blood Sucker.
Considering that Kurata also wants to bring melee weapons to this fight, I’d say that the MegaBots crew has their work cut out for them.
While there is no word on a specific date for these two mecha to square off, the ball is now in the MegaBots court as they were the ones who instigated this challenge.

USA and Japan might battle once again, but this time, it will be on friendlier terms.
Megabots, Inc., a US-based company, has challenged Suidobashi Heavy Industries to a giant robot duel: Their 12,000-pound Megabot Mk. II vs. Suidobashi's Kuratas, a 9,000-pount single-seater giant robot with advanced targeting system. Here's the info that came with the video:
SUIDOBASHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES! MegaBots, Inc. challenges you to a duel! You have a giant robot, we have a giant robot - we have a duty to the science fiction lovers of this world to fight them to the death.
Prepare yourselves, and name the battlefield. In one year, we fight.
THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN
ReplyDeleteGuntank vs Rick Dias....
ReplyDeleteI really like the look of the Japanese robot. It looks to be very agile and something out of a sci-fi anime. The American robot looks looksapocalyptic and apocalyptic. Bulldozer treads are only so mobile. I'm interested.
ReplyDeleteNope, Kuratas moves at a max speed of around 9 mph
DeleteMAD CAT! JAGUAR MAD CAT! I'm ejecting, ejecting.......(FWOOOSH!)
ReplyDeleteDont tell me, world wars three will be near now, because chalange of country, chalange of weapon and anything, omg, america vs chinese vs rusia ( in world war 3, all country will be war, uhm ), god protect us
ReplyDeleteIm pretty sure this wont happen due to a small robot CHALLENGE.
DeleteI think the kuratas will win because magebot look like hard to move
ReplyDeleteI hope Japan recruits a 14 year old boy that is the only person that can activate the robot~ Must keep with tradition~
ReplyDeleteAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA !!! BEST COMMENT WINNER !!!
DeleteAnd the boy also needs to be mentally unstable and/or has some kind of social disorder to keep with tradition
DeleteGermany can't join with their crazy ambient intelligence research for high end cars?
ReplyDeleteDear America, STOP BEING SO BULL HEADED!
ReplyDeleteRight? they should never have challenge. We should just live our lives never seeing giant robots fight each other. Yes, I am being sarcastic you wuss
DeleteDear loser stop being not American
DeleteDear Japan, DON'T STOOP TO THEIR LEVEL!!!
Deleteand the point went right over some of your heads...this is in a spirit of fun and competition, they build giant robots...plus the goofy nature of each challenge means they can ork harder to each move closer to perfecting their respective models. it helps both sides in the long run.
DeleteGOLIATH ONLINE!
ReplyDeleteSYSTEMS ONLINE!
TARGET DESIGNATED!
So the Japanese one is red. It must be able to perform 3 times faster...O_O...3 times faster...3...3 WHEELS?!
ReplyDeleteNo shit japan would dominate. I mean LOOK AT THAT MONSTER THEY GOT
ReplyDeleteUgh, I rather they don't. Didn't the creators of Kuratas say their Mech is more of an artpiece or toy(an obscenely expensive one)?
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm taking this a little too seriously, but it feels like Megabots is just being a bit too egotistical about this challenge. No offence.
its 'murica, what do you expect, they feel the need, the NEED to be No.1 in everything!!
Delete'MURICAN SPIRITS!!! JUST LOOK AT THAT MEDABOT EQUIPPED WITH FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY!! FCK YEAHH 'MERICA!!!!!!!
from the look of it, Megabot Mk. II will fall just by one punch from Kurata.... Kurata has 4 legs, and MK II's treadmill is too small to...
ReplyDeleteMegabot can crouch , if melee came into it they could just crouch it. Wonder how they will armor them or give them a weapon system.
DeleteKurata is indeed more advanced , but I highly doubt it was built to take a beating, higher end normally means more frail, and the US one is basically a hydraulic lift on bobcat treads. ..........I see this as more of a way for both of them to promote themselves and have fun doing it.
Weapons online. All systems nominal.
ReplyDeleteCan they buy the rights from bandai to create a real life Mobile Worker? That would be awesome!!!!!
ReplyDeletethey are lucky it isn't Voltes 5, daimos, or any gundam that japan will use :v
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be fun to see. Sure it's probably to help bring attention to both projects and add funding, but if it turns out awesome just imagine the possibility of more groups building and competing. Like that robot wars show a few years ago, but much, much more awesome.
ReplyDeleteThey look like exactly what I would expect: Japan's is sleek and techie; whereas America's looks very junkyard and scrapped together, like something out of Mad Max.
