A FEW WORDS FROM SOME OF OUR JUDGES ABOUT THE WINNING PHOTO (Info about our judges: HERE)
Matt Tomczek I would prefer to see contending the mod title as well but that paint job is just superb and deserves the win IMO. Flawless. He has clearly taken the time to go through all of the correct prep work and I'm sure he would have had to redo more than a few pieces to get it looking that perfect. I'm with DC on that one. Huge amount of effort in painting a PG and by all accounts it is spectacular. Congratulations Matt!
Don Suratos (DC23 Mech Arts)
I choose Matt Tomczek's PG GP01. The amount of work put into a perfect grade versus master grades is very incomparable. From assembly to painting, this perfect grade deserves the win.
Camo pattern is stunning and is too much work for any average modeler. The internals is sick and made the kit look 10 times more expensive. The PG is both very difficult to do and stunning at the same time.

G.G.  (Gundam Guy)
I actually liked Matt's GP01, Dade's Quebeley & Anthony S's ANA Color Strike Freedom as my top 3 choices. But going down into the technicals..I was glad to give my final vote  to Matt's GP01. The modeler simply had a well thoughtout paint scheme, the skill to implement it and the result is excellent. Although I would admit that it won over Dade's Quebeley by just a tiny margin.  Good job to everyone who participated.  It truly was a very tough category to judge.

  4. if it's gonna be paintjob, I'm gonna vote for the tieren, kampfer, and the gelgoog. They were smooth paint jobs imo, but the gelgoog is VERY clean.

  8. Hi GG,

Why is this category not posted in front of your page?

    ReplyDelete
  9. why are there bases on the paintjob category. don't those disqualify an entry. Since its only to be used in the diorama category?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Good paint job on both the Strike Freedoms. I like how they used Hi-Nu Gundams color scheme.Great job=)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Where did u read about bases not allowed?

  22. ahh...blue gundam~ :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. My Kampfer isnt here? Does this mean you guys havent posted up all the entries?

    ReplyDelete
  24. that Kalel guy has 2 kits in this category, the blue delta plus and the sd zeong. according to the rules...

Q: Can we enter more than one model per category?
A: No, only one entry per category is allowed just to be fair.

    disqualified...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Please tell me the guy who painted the Red Cliff is a little kid with Down's Syndrome or something, because, ...DAYUM....

    ReplyDelete
  26. Man! The light-up SD Dend is sweet!! XD

    ReplyDelete
  27. that 00 raiser by Shinn Adrian looks like a CG..XD

and yes..the one who submitted the SD zeong has another entry, the blue delta plus..why didn't team G.G. saw that?

    ReplyDelete
  28. That 00 Raiser by Shinn Adrian is -definitely- CG. It doesn't match up at all with the action base and it looks off.

    ReplyDelete
  29. My second entry submitted should be disqualified. not the first one. I only realized it that there is only one entry per category when I have already sent the email.. my bad.. -Kalel

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wow the paintjob on some of them is awesome

    ReplyDelete
  31. that PG strike freedom yo... and that last strike freedom

    ReplyDelete
  32. Q: Can we enter more than one model per category?

    ReplyDelete
  33. kent's tieren with the desert camo ==== winner!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow, that Red Cliff is...bad D:

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hi, I also have an entry into this category that hasn't shown up. I shall forward my sent email again. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I can't believe that neither Antazo nor Budiwaluyo made it to the finals.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Why would Antazo make it? He had 2 entries in the category.

      Delete
  38. You got pro modellers (hundreds of $$$ commision artist) like Matt Tomczek and others competing for model kits and not cash prizes? You got to wonder if they want to win those kits so bad or just get their names out there as a portfolio/advertisement of sorts (wink wink, nudge nudge). Oh well, tough luck for you casuals/newbies out there.

    ReplyDelete
  39. It was actually just for fun. I rarely enter competitions, and wanted to give it a chance. No agenda at all.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Wow cool bro, hope you had fun competing against all these other people. It must have been a real test of your skill. Enjoy your prize, you earned it buddy.

      Delete
    2. tl;dr Did it for lolz

      Delete
    3. Dude, didn't you paint this in like....2009?

      Delete
  40. well this contest was fair to the average modeller

    ReplyDelete
  41. As much as I respect how much you have contributed to the community, I've got to question the nature of this contest. What is the point in letting the average modeller compete in a competition that allows pro/seasoned modellers to enter it as well? This contest is a joke, and nothing more. I have to agree with 'Reality', these prizes can mean so much more to the average modeller and yet it goes to a known icon in the hobby? Priorities guys, you can't have a single category and have regular modellers and seasoned modellers compete for the same title/prize. Its just not done. This is not an attack on Matt Tomczek, I love his work, but it doesn't detract from the fact that this contest is very unfair to the majority of the entrants.

Congrats staff of GG, for hosting an excellent contest ;)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh man, I didn't placed. My skill sucks. I agree with the above comment. But most of the contest, even recent bandai world cup didn't have category for beginner / pros. They had junior class, but thats for kids. And I would think it would be pretty tough to classify what is pro's work vs. moderate work vs. beginner work.

    ReplyDelete
  43. You guys are complaining that people who are skilled will win. What kind of complaint is that? In any competition, job bids, talent searches, sports, those who are better will and should win.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In your world then, it would be perfectly fine for Usain Bolt to crush a local high school track event. In defense of the seasoned modellers, though, the rules were pretty generalized and anybody was allowed entry. I guess it's up to the entrants themselves to practice restraint or whatnot. Now, to become constructive for future events.... maybe only allow entrants who bought from your store (to dissuade entries from other competitions etc)and have them per kit grade. You would probably end up with the top guns gravitating to the PGs, and HGs for casuals.

      Delete
    2. That's not even the same analogy!

Pick a more appropriate comparison: a newly assembled high school track team competing for the first time against other schools who have had years of experience and coaching. This is essentially what this competition had.

      Delete
  44. The only problem I have is that this winning entry was made in 2007 and has already won in previous photo contests. This entry is 5 years old and is total bull shit for people who made a kit within the last year for the contest.

Any future contests need to have a rule that entries can't be over a year old or have been winners in previous photo contests.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The judges seem to have been influenced by the fact that it is a PG, especially Don.
This should not be a factor in a painting contest as it should only be judged on the quality of the paint and not the quantity of parts painted.
The recent winner of the Gunpla world cup showed this by winning with modded HG kits.
Letting existing kits enter a contest like this is a bit silly, Matt has such a huge collection of stunning kits that he can win this every year for a years.
Like someone already said, its like putting Usain Bolt against high school athletes.
The next contest should have some alterations to take these factors into account.

But anyway, congrats to Matt. Although the Qubeley was my favorite to win.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You also have to understand that a PG presents more opportunities for error.

      Delete
  46. I must say I agree with most of the comments here. Better luck to us noobs next time that's all I can say.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Matt just needs to find a way to enter the junior category and he can we every prize that comes along, that's the point right?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Tell yah what, next year to make things simple, why dont you just have jeffho and toymaker enter as well. Then all you have to do is assign 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. No one else would even have to enter.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I don't see a problem with his win. Sure it's kind of unfair, but nowhere did he break or even stretch any of the rules. It would be nice to have separate categories for skill sets, but then we'll have people sad that they get lumped in w/ junior modelers when they think they deserve to run with the big dogs.

    ReplyDelete
  50. You all act like Matt is some super human pairing and modeling machine. He's a human, just like you and me. Matt repainted that model recently... Mr. "Its a 5 yr old model".

If your crotch is sore you didn't win, become a better modeler.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. And Michael Jordan was just was just a basketball player.

      Delete
    2. He repainted the model in Summer of 2009. Read his post please. He just took photos recently of a kit he repainted 2.5 years ago.

No one is bashing Matt or doubting his skills. Staff of GG need to buck up and make sure this shit doesn't happen again. As someone put, Usain Bolt vs high school athlete is hardly fair

      Delete
  51. Still whinning. LOL If gg's guys seperate into pro & noobs categories. I bet there will still be bitching.

I feel sorry for gg guys, they obviously put a lot of effort to do these events and to even give out free prizes. And this is what they get in return. LOLz

    ReplyDelete
  52. I don't think this is whining, when they are speaking the truth. Based on the prizes, its pretty clear that this contest is hardly anything to write home about and would target the average modeller, yet the "big guns" turn up to play. I have to agree that the GG guys need to do something to amend this if they have future contests. At least have this contest exclusively for non-established modellers

    ReplyDelete
  53. It seems everyone like to just complain, but why don't we give them some constructive ideas. How can future contest be more fair then? Who is to stop Matt from submiitting a work that he feels is subpar into the noob category? And also sometime noobs produce great work too, and they submit to the noob category. Now what? =D

    ReplyDelete
  54. Watch this Video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHmEpqUFLZ8&feature=related

Was that unfair? Clearly they should've seperated Usain Bolt into the advanced runners category, and the other in the noob runners category. =D

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I tried not to be a part of this, but I don't think you understand what these people are saying. In that video, the contestants are ALL PROFESSIONAL. It's a PROFESSIONAL race where the runners have had lots of EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING. It's far different from this.

      Delete
  55. Was Matt professional trained? He won because he was creative. There are folks who build for years but don't have a creative bone in them.

So why can't anyone answer my question? How do you seperate the pros from the noobs? Everyone seems to pose the problem, but no one has a solid solution.

I hope team gg could have a better contest next time. I am not a good modeler, but I have been building for year. Yet I feel I am better than noobs.

    ReplyDelete
  56. "The amount of work put into a perfect grade versus master grades is very incomparable." <--- are you fucking kidding me? ha ha. this guy doesn't know anything about plastic modeling at all. Have you ever seen Korean builds, detailing a master grade frame making it even more impressive than that of a PG? when it comes to real talent in painting, the size of the model doesn't matter. It's even more difficult to paint a smaller kit. what noob.

    ReplyDelete
  57. as for me.. win is win.. lose is lose.. but remember.. we're in gunpla is not for competition but we have our own reason.. pleasure.. hobby.. or just want to create something.. gunpla competition is for us know more about gunpla.. others work.. where is our skill and what better skill we can achieve from other contestant. i'm glad that i'm part of it and when i saw the finalize entries.. we should know who are the possible winner even without the comment of the judge (but judges are better than bias vote).. there might be some flaw in this contest ( i can't find the rules on " previous entries on last G-shot contest are not allow to participate", maybe i miss it).. but it didn't say old work can't entry and i know its very hard for the host to check each entries (win or enter other contest).. so.. whoever win or lose.. just enjoy it.. those who are not chosen lose the prize but you gain the experience!!! and congratulation to Matt Tomzczek..

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hi Everyone,

First, thank you to those who partcipated. And again, congrat to Matt Tomczek for winning this category.

Would like to thank everyone who left a comment. Your ideas, gratitude, complaints and criticisms were equally well taken. And we shall consider all your suggestions so that we may host a better contest from this point forward.

For those displease with the results. Please understand that I am not perfect, nor the folks who help me run this blog/biz. But I do listen, and your voices were heard.

I would really appreciate if we can keep our discussions with mutual repect for each other.

    Thanks everyone.

  59. GG, great work with the contest and all, but can I suggest something? HLJ is having a competition this year I think and what they're doing is dividing it into beginner, moderate and advanced categories or something like that. May I suggest you do something similar next time to avoid such issues with results? Or maybe even separate the HG entries from the MG entries etc? Would really go a mile towards fairness and proper judging in that way. I understand you can't have too many categories due to lack of prizes, but that's just my 2 cents.

    ReplyDelete
  60. all you average people just shutup and let the pro enjoy his prizes

    ReplyDelete
  61. Zaku Shiki and the black / grey / red Cheridum variant are beastly. Qubeley is probably my favorite entry but im partial to the design to begin with :)

    Grats everyone who placed!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sooooo, DC23 voted for the guy that's a VIP on his modeling forum. No, that's not a conflict of interest at all.........

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Very glad someone brought this up. I'm sure quite a few people were thinking this.

Anyway, regarding improvements for a contest, I think HLJ (NO affiliation with me whatsover, and I am also NOT entering the contest)is hosting a very fair contest imo. No WIPs ensure that its pretty much a new job. The categories ensure that the average modeller won't be pit against pros.

      Delete
    2. Pardon me. I'm an ADMIN at the Forums DC23 co-founded with me. Last year, I also competed with the Chimera, and I didn't win. Is that a conflict of interest?

Did anyone care to point that out TO YOU anonymous people?

      Delete
  63. Well I had fun preparing for this contest. Thats all it mattered to me. congratulation to Matt, bro you deserves to win.

    ReplyDelete
  64. In the spirit of true sportsmanship, I won't put stock in complaints made by the anonymous when competition results don't go their way. Compete, win or lose, be a good sport.

    Or don't compete at all.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Wow ! what's up with all the Hi Nu Gundam colors love!? Hi Nu is really the awesomeness!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Matt Tomczek I would prefer to see contending the mod title as well but that paint job is just superb and deserves the win IMO. Flawless.
