Gundam 00 Assistant Director Masaki Kitamura Arrested for Massacre Threat [News via AnimeNewsNetwork]

Suspect denies posting threat on Osaka's site after police ID'ed his wireless IP address
[News via AnimeNewsNetwork]

Police in Osaka arrested 42-year-old anime technical director Masaki Kitamura on Sunday on suspicion of writing "I will commit a massacre" on the city's website. According to the police, the suspect denied the charges, saying, "I'm completely innocent."
The suspect is accused of going to Osaka's inquiry page on the Internet and writing, "I will commit a massacre in Otaroad [in Osaka's Nipponbashi area] next Sunday. I will ram into pedestrian paradise, and after stabbing indiscriminately with a knife, I will commit suicide" on July 29 at about 9:45 p.m.
Except the suicide part, the threat is similar to the killing of seven people that took place in Tokyo's Akihabara district in 2008. "Pedestrian paradise" is the traditional practice of cordoning vehicles off a particular street or streets and limiting the area to foot traffic. Nipponbashi's Otaroad is essentially Osaka's otaku shopping counterpart to Tokyo's Akihabara.
According to the authorities, they analyzed the IP address that originated the threat and discovered it was linked to a high-speed wireless LAN device owned by Kitamura.
Kitamura was an assistant director on both seasons of Mobile Suit Gundam 00. He was also a director of the 10th installment of Gundam Evolve and an episode director on Ergo Proxy, GUNxSWORD, Intrigue in the Bakumatsu - Irohanihoheto, Planetes, Wolf's Rain, and other series.

Char Aznable Custom Toyota Auris [News via AnimeNewsNetwork]

Char's Auris hatchback unveiled with light-up Zeon emblems, blade antenna, "Achtung" lettering, and more
[News via AnimeNewsNetwork]
Toyota has been teasing a collaboration with Char Aznable, the iconic antagonist of the Mobile Suit Gundam anime franchise, and it unveiled the secret project on Saturday at Japan's Chara-Hobby 2012 event: The MS-186H-CA Auris hatchback in Char's signature matte red.
The Gundam.info website is streaming a promotional video.
On the exterior, the special package from Toyota Modellista International has:
1.a blade antenna inspired by the head antenna on Char's Zaku II mobile suit
2.aero kit (front spoiler with embedded LED lights, side skirts, rear spats)
 3.rear diffuser and built-in muffler
 4.hood ducts
5.front and rear light-up Zeon emblems
 6.short suspension springs
 7.mirror detailing
8.18-inch aluminum wheels with Zeon logos
9.blackout paint (inside the headlights, front wheels, front bumper, and fog light bezels)
 10.brake caliper paint
11.original body artwork wrapping (matte color, carbon-style roof, caution labels — many written in German "Achtung")

Inside, the car has custom leather on the steering wheel, shift knob, shifting mechanism cover, and brake lever. The dashboard and steering wheel have interior artwork wrapping to complement the one on the exterior, while the instrument panel and door trim have a custom black scheme. Both the steering wheel and the push-button start switch have Zeon emblems. The aluminum accelerator, brake, and clutch pedals and original floor mats complete the package.

Tomino Yoshiyuki's New Project - G Reko Info Updated! [8/25/12]

Gundam Creator Tomino's G-Reko Entering Full Fledged Production
[News via AnimeNewsNetwork]
Director discusses robot project's status & he distances it from Gundam:
ANN obtained the October issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Gundam Ace magazine on Saturday and confirmed that it said that G-Reko, the newest robot project from creator Yoshiyuki Tomino (Gundam, Ideon), will be "entering full-fledged production." The update on G-Reko ran in Tomino's "Oshiete Kudasai. Tomino Desu" column.
Tomino was in the middle of interviewing Japanese modern artist Takashi Murakami in his column when he commented on the taxing nature of creating a work "on the level of a television series." Tomino also said that the scenario for the whole G-Reko project has been written and is currently being reevaluated. He added that he would like to draw the storyboards for the entire production, though he realizes that doing so may be impossible.
Tomino said that the "G-Reko" name was chosen in part because "the 'Gundam' name was a total nuisance when trying to develop a new kind of robot story." He noted that the "G" in the title was revealed earlier as standing for "gravity."
For the past few years, Tomino has been discussing "Hajimetai Capital G no Monogatari," a proposed text novel project which featured a space elevator. This method of ferrying objects from a planet's surface to orbit has been a plot point in such anime as The Super Dimension Century Orguss, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and Tomino's own Turn A Gundam. Then, late last year, Kadokawa Shoten revealed the launch (pictured left) of Tomino's similar G-Reko project at Sunrise, the anime studio behind Gundam and Ideon.
Tomino concluded his Murakami interview by stating that he is taking a break from his Gundam Ace column, which he began in 2003. He cited the time commitment required of him for the production of G-Reko.
