The paint products used:
- Gaia EX-02 EX Black
- Gaia 122 Star Bright Gold
- Tamiya X-1 enamel paint
A base coat of Gaia EX black was painted via airbrush.
Then he airbrushed on a coat of Gaia Star Bright Gold.
And finishes off by using Tamiya enamel paint to hand brush in area outside of the gold emblem. A final clear gloss coat was airbrushed to protect the paint, giving the entire part a shinny look.
The same technique was performed on the shield.
Personally, I would choose not to use the enamel product in this way. Enamel paint when used to fill a wide empty space usually ends up with a coarse texture, as seen above. I probably would had airburshed the entire part in black as he did in the first step, then use the gold color paint extracted out of a 'Gundam Marker (GM04 -200) Gold' onto a paint dish. Then carefully hand brush in the gold emblem area.
The paint in a Gundam Marker is already retarded, meaning even when hand brushed in... the result would be very consistent (no lumps) and not coarse. The same effect can be achieve by mixing regular bottled paint with Mr. Retarder. Well.. That's just my 2 cents.
