Ok, SDs have caught on to the inner frame thing. Mold reuse from Legend BB Musha Gundam.
If they reuse why isn't it cheaper? And to think back in the 90s plated plastic is commonplace in BB Senshi kits. Ok maybe the raw material is more expensive now? Electricity bills? No more nuclear in Japan?
Reusing parts makes the kits easier for bandai to produce, not cheaper for the consumer. Most of the kit price comes from the amount of plastic used by the kit.
And sd build strike doesn't actually reuse a bunch of parts. Bb sensi kits just have a lot of matching hard points and connections for easy part swapping.
Yeah, I totally don't get plated parts are getting rarer or premium only. They are still reprinting BB 100? it is almost pure chrome.
As for inner frame, no. BB from last 3-4 years had been using the same PC-7(?) polycaps. They all have light armored mode for decades. Sizes are more unified now so they could switch helmet and armor.
Don't really like the design of Sennari Daishougen :P
Yup, well aware that light armor mode is a feature of the Musha series.
Oh yes, the polycaps are reused. I remember those polycaps they use to connect the arms and feet to the body back in the 90s, had to carefully align them otherwise cannot close the body nicely and will also get the PCs deformed.
Then the recent Sangokuden kits have their own PC system too. And they are practically similar if all armor is off. I would say the light armor mode of the older Musha kits have more 'character'.
Ok, thanks for reminding me Anonymous and Trev :P For each generation of SDs theres a set of 'rules' to design around.
But for inner frame, its pretty rare for non Musha designs. Some I can think of are the BB25 Guncannnon and BB200 Gundam.
Slowly from a PC system in the 90s to a unified 'blank form' in the Sangokuden kits. Easier for builders to swap parts and also for Bandai to just swap around and release as new kit :P
BB senshi plastic tends to be thinner/weaker than on other gunpla due to the fact they use the easy pop out part runners. They have a much smaller gate (The nub where the part is attached to the runner that clipping results in a nub on the part) to allow parts to be removed easily from the runners without leaving large nubs or requiring tools (So children can build them without sharp things, since BB senshi is one of the only gunpla lines actively marketed at children and not the teen to adult modeling community).
However, the gate is where plastic flows into the part during the molding process. Smaller gates means less plastic flowing into the part reliably. Bandai may have also tweaked the plastic formula a bit to make it flow better through a smaller gate.

Hmm...thinking too much again :P

Wasn't thinking there would be replies :P
ReplyDeleteGood points guys :)
