Yeah I use acrylics, over the kit directly. But for chrome effect I personally prefer to get it done by an automobile chrome workshop, price is roughly the same as an exclusive model without the shipping.
I give the runner(s) as a whole, in bulk (its cost effective) nub marks will be there, but if you are careful you can minimize the nub mark and touch it up with some silver paint marker over them.. Or if nub mark bothers you much, airbrush is an excellent alternative.
