You can play indefinitely. The energy for the MS lasts for about 20 matches. You can easily recharge them with the points earned in battle. For example, charging 4 MS after one match costs somewhere around 190pts, but you earn more than that after a battle...even if your team loses.
Such a bummer that this game is Japan-only.
