  1. I liked it. Sure, AGE was dumb at times, but I thought it was an enjoyable romp. It was basically a mash-up of diffferent mecha generations from the 80s to the 2000s, and the music, characters, and designs were all very fun. Sure, characterization and pacing was wonky, but it was a videogame adaptation and not originally an anime in the first place.

I think it was flawed, but fun.

  2. Wtf flit turned into hyakushiki... =='

  3. In the end Flit realy didn't love Emily. He was still hounted by his love for Yurin... what a sad story... STILL A BETTER LOVE STORY THAN TWILIGHT.

  4. now that's a nice full circle in the story. so, we can say that gundam age is really more about flit's journey.

  5. not bad gundam anime... the story getting better @asemu age... many hero die in this anime like wolfe, obrite etc... it very disappointed that teen asemu with age1 razor story and anime only appear at psp...

  6. Too rush!! Love the badass looking Vagan Gear Sid but it shouldve stayed for more than one episode.

  7. Ok rather than start with the MANY problems, here's what this episode did RIGHT: They wisely brought the story back to Flit. This is FLIT'S journey coming full circle to become a savior, not Asemu's or Kio's. I think they dealt with this well enough.

Now onto the problems (oh dear..):
    - The episode was EXTREMELY rushed. They were trying to do a mash up of break pillar and Ribbons fight from 00. Poorly.
    - Zera was a complete waste of a final boss and cool MS. Zanald was more of a threat.
    - Sid came out of nowhere with no explanation.
    - Ezelcant dying peacefully instead of facing justice for his crimes.
    - Kio's FLAWLESS VICTORY. He's officially beat Kira by having not one scratch on his mobile suit AND saving the pilot. Holy ****...

Overall, I think Age had potential but completely wasted it. I attribute this to its schizophrenic writing which made plot elements come out of nowhere and with no buildup (read: understanding). It almost seems like the writers gave up halfway through and started shoehorning elements from more successful Gundam series instead of sticking to their guns. Anyway I hope Sunrise learns from this and make the next show better.

    1. The FX did take some damage. Some (all?) of its C-Funnels were crushed when it chased after Vagan Gear Sid. Strike Freedom only gets knocked back and its beam shields overpowered. Everything else was intact and unharmed.

    2. I think Age was at it peak at the end of the first generation with the Vagans revealed and Flit being pushed over the edge with Yurin's death. Barring the slow Fardain arc, it was solid throughout in character and plot.

Second generation had the opportunity to develop sympathy for Vagans through Zeheart but then wasted too much time with Asemu's stupid hijinks. For all the pretty battles and "supar pairottos" it failed to move the story forward.

Third generation could have brought the focus back to the main story but introduced too many unnecessary plot threads and Gundam cliches effectively drowning the series already struggling for time. It's a real pity because Kio's arc I think had the most potential being the longest of the bunch.

    3. C Funnels getting destroyed were just for the sake of animation, the fact that Kio has a flawless victory, Flit has a statue of his own after being a jerk for 30+ eps is even worse than the Destiny ending, The guy is right.

      Delete
    4. Watching the episode again and you guys are right the c funnels do get damaged but I still wouldn't call that significant enough to Kio's ultimate victory.

Also for all its problems I still wouldn't put Age ending on Destiny level. That show's finale failed in pretty much every respect except for music.

      Delete
    5. At least, AT Least man, In Destiny, the jerks receive suitable punishments at the end. Asuno didn't, Vagan's leader didn't, Zeheart didn't, the Earth Federation didn't, none of them has "suitable" punishment for their crimes of wrecking not just the Earth but the whole Universe for some stupid ideals. It's a joke to even consider this ending did any justice to this series's enjoyable 2nd generation build up. The first and third generation just fell apart.

      Delete
    6. First generation (Flit) was superior in storytelling and character development than both the latter. As for Destiny, lets see: Kira and co attacking anyone who disagrees with them (definition: terrorists), taking control of both governments away from elected officials (however stupid their policies), and then ruling earth and space at gunpoint (definition: dictatorship). Yep all's fair in the world :)

    7. You know very well that AGE was meant for CHILDREN, who look at things in a simpler manner

      Delete
    8. Oh its very simple. kill or get killed.. a story without a value or a teaching and is aim for kids? u making me laugh? or are u saying that kids nowadays are very smart, smarter than adult that they can comprehend what is the teaching of this series? seriously enlighten me. maybe I'm dumb, I don know but these series is nth.. its EMPTY!!

So are u really sure is aim for kids?

      Delete
    9. Yeah, I do think this is aimed for kids. It isn't difficult for a 10-12 year old to grasp the majority of what's going on in AGE at all. It really isn't even that complicated as you make it sound like it to be.

      Delete
  8. Well yeah, in my own opinion, Flit's generation was ok, Asemu did a well job in gen 2 because of his dual-wield style and with his re-appearance as Super-pirate-papa, he once against save the storyline which was going down hill because Kio was not mature enough. And seem like Asemu did become a bad-ass pilot since he beat Zeheart piloting Regilis, even Zeheart had to admit that Asemu had surpassed him.
So to sum up, acceptable story line because with 3 main chars in just 49 eps make it too rush, over-use dead-scene. The climax wasn't too good, having Asemu beat the heck out of Zeheart in ep 48 make the final boss in ep 49 look...normal. Fine mecha design, the Age units did a well job in keeping the old designs and the new ones together. Music is good. Action: ok in gen 1 with Age 1 ninja with Shiguru blade and good in gen 2 with Asemu using dual-wield, gen 3 did a well job in tossing Age 3 away and replace with Age FX which spams his C-funnels again and again. Char development: good since they had to develop character for 3 main chars in 49 eps, but thanks to that, their wives and a lot of sub-chars lose their place

  9. Now, we need new better Gundam Series....

  12. I honestly think most of you guys are being too harsh. Sure the series had its flaws- but I still loved it for its characters and designs. Woolf, Obright, Largan, and Seric have become some of my favorite pilots- alongside both older pilots (like South Burning) and newer (Graham Aker/Mr. Bushido).

My shelf is currently lined with Geoaces, AGE-2 variants, Woolf's custom suits, and my recent Clanche... and I love the designs just as much as my old GM models.

Regardless of all you QQers, I had a good time. More than likely the next series should be marketed to you "hardcore" fans. (Even though I've personally seen every Gundam series/movie except the "non-canon" G-Savior...)

Besides give everyone admit Age is really worse to see so everyone should unite get female lead.

Cause overall right now indeed Age gundam is like WCW's finger poke of doom.

Plus seeing all this give KLAC person has really calling out those from Sunrise anime company for asking female lead in Gundam and by look it indeed this is like personal asking.

  15. I kinda wish the last episode was stretched out a bit more. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it and the series as a whole. I'm glad the series came full circle with the focus going back to Flit. The change was a bit rushed, but I'm glad he did end up becoming a "savior" of sorts, just not what he expected.

I did have a tear in my eye at the end. It felt different from the other AU anime, but I think it definitely has a place in the Gundam universe. This series got me back into gunpla building, with the HG G-Exes being the first kit I finished in a decade, though I have to credit 00 for piquing my interest.

Does anyone think there will/should be a movie? The series pretty much tied all the loose ends.

  18. I think that AGE served its purpose well and was an enjoyable and easy to follow series.

If it had one flaw, it would probably be that it was made to please many different groups:
    1) children
    +character designs
+simpler mech designs compared to UC, but more over the top firepower
    +easy to follow story
    +young (male) leads
    2) older fans
+references to and repetitions of UC themes
    +MG kits
    3) AU fans
+ It's an AU Gundam series, enough said.
    4) stakeholders at Bandai
+they need to get the new, younger generation into the Gundam Universe somehow
+They need to sell kits. The HGAG kits' repetition of parts and runners saves them time and money. Mix-and-matching of parts also appeals to children. Simpler assembly designs also appeals to children. The color schemes may also appeal to children.
+Games and novelty items can be capitalized on.

Competing interests would mean compromises have to be made.

    1. I think the biggest problem with Age is it clings too tightly to Gundam shows past instead of making itself unique. It's clear that WWII in space is simply not enough to attract kids today. Heck, mecha is not as popular as it once was.

G Gundam was successful with kids because it was as different as possible from UC shows. Bandai needs to learn that yes, innovation is risky but if they want Gundam to survive, it needs to be done even if it means pissing off old school fans.

I still can't believe they threw out a perfectly good (friggin' genius) kids show with Gunpla Builders. It would certainly have done better than Age.

    2. age was very unique, in fact, where else have you seen designs like those of the vagans? those were sooo unique... they were actually quite cool as well. they were also quite effective in killing good guys as well... so yeah, age was unique and cool. the plotlines needed work but the mobile suit designs were pretty awesome

    2. Well, if Sunrise had a more careful planning, it would've been critically acclaimed by now. Ya know... Zipping 3 seasons/generations into 1 is really a risky move. A lot of opportunities have been wasted.

    5. Well duh, Kio still at his current age, off course he's not married with Wendy yet.

    6. Well, If there was a love story of kio, I feel like kio will chose the vagan girl (I forgot the name) to be his wife. so if kio married with wendy, then the same event of his grandfather will be repeated. :D

  22. The series was ok. There was the potential for so much more, like even going a little bit into the history of the original Savior Gundam, why Flint's mom looked like his grandson AND why the Vegan Leader's son looked like Kio, etc

But for 49 episodes and three different main characters and arcs it was too short to get too deep into everything. Maybe if they had planned it out for two seasons like they did for OO Gundam it would've broken new ground in telling a story that spans three generations in war, build up Sid and gave more insight into each significant character so you gave a damn; Wolfe dying had an effect because you saw him go from a cocky racing pilot to a badass pilot capable of taking down XRounder. Most everyone else had 10 minutes of screen time before being off-ed.

Hope they put out a good bit of supplemental story via mangas and side stories like OO Gundam.

    1. Memories of Sid manga explains Asemu story after Age 2 and how he became a space pirate.

    2. How would splitting a three generation story into two "seasons" help? I liked 00 a lot, but I'm amazed how many simpletons fell for the "season" gimmick. The narrative is all the same, they just took a few months off in between episode 25 and 26. The problem with Age seems to be a general lack of planning beyond the first arc and the first arc had it's issues as well. As a result, Age spends tons of time on elements that have little payoff to the central story (Fardain, Asemu's X-Rounder obsession, Shanalua, Deen and Lu, Girard Spriggan, etc.) and skipped on developing elements that could have helped the series. As much of a circus about the EXA-DB, it was all for nothing. EXA-DB should have been the focus of the third arc. Kio was also a total waste after Rostrolan, the reason FX didn't get touched is that Kio basically didn't fight. I would actually rate Age as worse than Destiny. Destiny's problems were derived from the production team paying too much attention to popularity polls and allowing that to inordinately influence the plot. Age had a very basic plot, "Gundam saves the day", with a lot of unnecessary deviations that requires the viewer to do a lot of guesswork to make sense of it.

      Delete
    3. With some effort, you can.

After analyzing the story, I found that the main show is Flit with his son and grandson. Therefore, one way to do it is to have gen 1 take up the whole season 1 (add in the Federation corruption things more). Then quite briefly, Asemu arc (but not missing the love triangle and the mechanic/pilot love story -- which I cried when the mechanic, not the pilot, died). Then we can start Kio's story that paralleled his granddad (especially after he's visited Mars).

Another way to do it is to trim down Asemu's arc (by tossing away many things including the mechanic/pilot love story) to finish in Season 1. Then season 2 can try to introduce Kio then converge all three arcs in a satisfying way.

I prefer the first way because the mechanic/pilot love story is too important for me. Moreover, the parallels are better handled in the first way -- Flit/Kio parallel and Asemu/Zeheart parallel. In this way, Zeheart's "What have I done?" would really contrasts Flit's "I'm the savior of all" (when he decided not to use proton diver missile).

  23. Actually it wasn't a bad series but just BADLY MANAGED series

  26. Poor Gundam Age. It seems that most people didn't give it a chance. Look, we should know that every Gundam series has its flaws(The real fans should know that is) and that we should all be thankful that we had a new
Gundam Series in the first place. Even though I couldn't watch Gundam Age, someday I'm going to watch the entire series if it ever comes to America. Yet in the end,the best part about a Gundam series ending is wondering how good the next series will be.
Reception to something like Gundam Age is common after something as good as Gundam 00. I think people expected to much of Gundam Age after seeing the success of Gundam 00. Its like how some people were expecting Dark Knight Rises to be better than Dark Knight.
If any of you remember, Gundam 00 had a pretty awful ending too.

    1. You're defending a show you've never seen, thanks for invalidating your own opinion. What was wrong with 00's ending? That series followed plot lines through to the conclusion. It was well executed, Age was a hot mess.

      Delete
    2. Actually Gundam 00 had a perfectly fine ending. It may not have given closure for all the characters but it was consistent with direction the story was heading (whether fans agree with it or not is debatable). Now Gundam Age as a whole isn't terrible but I do question a lot of the story elements it introduced that felt out of place or distracted from the main story (e.g. Understanding theme, Moon arc, Sid).

      Delete
    3. I guess my comment was taken out of context, sorry if you are offended. It just seems that some people are to hard on AGE. You kind of have to admit that the Gundam 00 ending was kind of a let down though.

      Delete
    4. Just because the responses don't agree with you doesn't mean you've been taken out of context. It means that people read what you said an didn't agree with you. In what way was 00's ending a let down? I'm not offended, I just disagree with you. Your opinion is YOUR opinion; you're entitled to it as long as it's based on something. I think that 00 had a fine ending in the sense that the major plot threads were resolved. Did we get the daily schedule for every single character at the end? No, but no story has ever done that. So, specifically, what makes the ending a let down in your opinion? Your defense of Age makes 0% sense because, by your own admission, you haven't seen it. So you have no idea if people are being too hard on it or not.

      Delete
    5. Gundam 00's ending wasn't a letdown in my opinion. The creators knew where they wanted go with the story and had the balls to follow through to the end despite fans screaming bloody murder at every opportunity. 00 wasn't perfect but it had the most ambition I've seen since Turn A. It's precisely that willingness to experiment with new ideas that recent Gundam shows are sorely lacking (including Unicorn). At the very least I respect it for that.

Gundam Age could have been a masterpiece examining the ideals of each of the Asunos and their impact on the political situation of the war but it looks like the creators let fan pressure get to them and abandoned that central story point midway in favor of tired old Gundam cliches to try and improve ratings. Gundam X had terrible ratings and was even cancelled but the creators stuck to their guns and delivered one of the best AUs ever made.

      Delete
    6. I've seen clips of Gundam Age, but not full ones, you are right anon, I apologize for my awful comments earlier. I admit that I enjoyed the Gundam 00 movie, but I expected a different ending. From what I've seen, Gundam is better in a series format instead of movie format. I don't take offence to the comments earlier. I'll admit that what I said earlier was stupid. At the end of the day I know that Age isn't the best Gundam Series, but no Gundam Series is the Best because they are all the best in their own ways, and that is something all real Gundam fans can agree on. Isn't that right?

      Delete
  27. This was an OK Gundam AU. The first gen really gave me hope for series, and while the second wasn't as good it was only down a notch in terms of story and made up for it with mecha designs. The Age-2 DB and Adeles are still my favorite mechas, though that may change when I get the HG of the Clanche custom. XD
The third arc really ruined it for me though, it felt like SEED Destiny, where it had potential but suffered from poor directing. Gen 1 & 2 had clear goals and protagonists/antagonists but those were lacking here. Still, if you choose to ignore Kio, which is what I've been doing since he didn't do much anyway, the story between Flit and Asemu is a bit uncommon looking at the different Gundam AUs and handled pretty well.
Good job Bandai, but no more Kios please!

  29. THANK GOD, It's finally over. Worse Gundam series I have ever seen in my entire life. Even as I kid, I would have found Gundam Age really boring, lame, and stupid. I'll give Gundam Age points for actually deserving all the hate it gets. Gundam Age has to be the most sexist Gundam Series in History. Every female character was there to either have a baby, get killed off, or be completely useless. Gundam Age: A Complete Failure, THE END.

    1. Sorry but worst Gundam series champion is still Destiny.

      Delete
    2. Age was worse than Destiny. In fact, I don't even think Destiny is the worst series. Maybe bottom 3 or bottom 5 in the history of Gundam, but not the worse than Age. I would say Age is the worst in regards to storytelling. Followed by Destiny, because the plot was made subordinate to polls and kits sales. Followed by 0080, which had great mecha designs, but was the most boring story I've ever sat through in my life.

      Delete
    3. U cant be serious, 0080 War in the Pocket was amazing. You do realize that the main character in that series is not Bernie or Chris right? its Al. How could you not like a "realistic" gundam show where even zakus can take out a gundam? There were no newtypes, magic fairy dust, or GN particles to distract from the meaning of the story.

      Delete
    4. Yes, I know who the main character is. Al was an annoying little kid that at times bordered on sociopathy. If the story were centered on Bernie or even Chris, I might have cared for it. I felt no significant attachment to any of the characters. Who says I give a damn about "realism"? I care about an entertaining, consistent story. While 0080 was consistent, it was not entertaining. It's yet another UC show that gets a pass because it's UC. 0079, 08th Team, and CCA (except for Quess, Gyunei, and Hathaway) were very good. Zeta was fine (the whiny Sarah and Katz made some parts very tedious). Every other series/OVA/movie is a little to a lot overrated.

      Delete
    5. I think I see your problem here and it applies to many modern anime in general and its do with storytelling style. I've noticed a lot of anime fans/reviewers today demand that the main character of any show MUST likeable or charismatic because their investment is heavily dependent on this one factor.

However a lot of older shows are more plot-driven rather than character-driven affairs, meaning we see characters react to the plot rather than taking control of it. This is especially true in Gundam 0080. Al is SUPPOSED to be an annoying little brat at the beginning of the series but through his experiences we see his naivete shattered so he no longer sees war as a video game. Does this make him a more likable character? NO, but that's not the point of the story. It's to show the war as a terrible thing that can destroy relationships and Al witnesses this firsthand.

    6. Sorry, the concept of 0080 is amazing for me. I wouldn't mind another Gundam OVA or even series where the main character is a civilian (1st 00 Saji Crossroad fan here) and he becomes friends with one of the pilots, regardless of said pilot's affiliation, to gain experiences in life.

    7. well... seed wasn't my thing - but seed destiny made me absolutely hate everything cosmic era related. age however, did not make blunders as big and as horrific as seed destiny. age needed some plot line work but seed destiny needed a complete overhaul. age was more experimental than anything else with the generation style and the new mobile suit designs. but, seed destiny had everything set up for it to be great - shame, shame, shame. destiny sucked. age is actually comparable to victory and zz because of the character designs being made for a younger audience.

  30. Oh well whatever the problems Gundam fans can always take comfort knowing their series will never end with:

    CONGRATULATIONS! (cue applause)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Guys, admit it. This is worse than Destiny. Everything was so rushed. Pointless sub-plots everywhere. No use for girls in the show. Kio being a stupid pussy and cant make proper action of the gundam. The most rushed finale in gundam history. "Final Boss" battle that didnt do shit than just slash slash a couple of suits.

They could have at least made it 50 episodes and give it a proper non rushed goddamn ending than this bullcrap. 1st arc and 2nd arc was fine but the last kio's arc was just plain horse shit. This series had a lot of potential especially with tthat EXA-DB shit.

Oh well. At least theres Unicorn.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ok I agree Age was rushed and had too many unnecessary plot points but worse than Destiny? No. Age at least has an overarching story, decent animation and redeeming characters like Flit, Grodek, Woolf and Seric to name a few. Destiny only has its music to cleverly disguise its lack of story.

Unicorn isn't perfect either. Banagher was just as insufferable in ep4 which was also rushed.

      Delete
    2. I agree that UC shows are generally given an undue pass for top quality, but the OP is right. Age is way worse than Destiny. I would argue that even the second arc of Age was terrible. All of that time spent hyping up X-Rounders on Asemu's end, but every X-Rounder pilot aside from Flit was a complete idiot that more often than not, got manhandled in battle. So that arc was just as big a waste. The second arc should have focused on the Vagan plan to land on Earth with EXA-DB being revealed at the end. The third arc could have been (with a shorter time-skip) the hunt/battle for EXA-DB along with adding some form of significance/lesson being learned for both sides. Instead, we got a three generation story with no real cohesion, just a handful of grudges carrying from one arc to the next.

Destiny had more interesting characters than Age. Age didn't take the time to properly develop anyone besides Flit and Asemu. We got glimpses of good characters like Woolf and Grodek, but only in snapshots. Durandal was a far better villian than Ezelcant despite very similar goals. Durandal at least had the ability to persuade and manipulate, Ezelcant relied strictly on the fact that his people followed him blindly. Shinn started with strong potential. Destiny seemed to go in the direct of a redemption story at first, but once Kira and the self-righteous posse stormed back into the fight, Shinn's development halted because Saint Yamato needed a "villian" to fight. A better plot for Destiny would have been Kira's group dealing with the Earth Alliance's maniacs (in a diminished role in the story) and Shinn's group dealing with ZAFT's maniacs in the same way that Amuro led Karaba to handle the Earth Titans and Bright/Char dealt with space Titans.

    3. ^This. Should have made it into a 50 ep series. So much potential for AGE. But sadly it all went down toilet without the satisfaction of taking a good crap. I mean seriously wtf? Vegan gear combining with SID out of no where? And some EXA-DB technology being able to cure the Mars Rays? Flint changing his mind within 1 min? Some decent pacing and writing would have definitely made it more memorable.

      Delete
  32. Well I would say it was a good ending, even if it did seem rushed.

And loads of you still don't realize that Gundam was always aimed at kids, hence the young lead characters.

A lot just compare it to 00 which is completely different...

In my opinion Gundam Age had its ups and downs, but still ended as a good series.

    1. A very nice way to shows to children indeed. well um.. It teaches u nth. no morals, just ppl kill and getting killed. oh.. oh.. there is one thing though they did thought us.. That WOMEN here are useless. They are nth for except when it comes to reproducing. That's the only thing useful of the WOMEN in this series.. so it teaches us what? its ok to fuck a woman just as long as ur heritage cont? A very nice way indeed to show to kids..

I personally love the story. a story about three generations working together to save earth/humanity. (that is one thing u don't see often) but what the heck? it feels like Bandai gave up halfway.. i mean what the hell are they thinking? the plots are interesting, why don't they make it better? this could be the best gundam series if proper planning were made. In the end, the only reason that i can think of Bandai wanting to cont this series is just to milk our money for the models which like appearing one episode then die and NEVER TO BE SEEN EVER AGAIN.. Applause to Bandai and the staff working on this series.

    2. You are right, especially considering Flit loves Yurin (and his mom) than his wife. It doesn't help by Asemu when he arrives back, he didn't apologize his wife properly (if I remember correctly, just a hug). Kio's the worse since we never see him confess his love to his girl. His girl is a nurse.

Another big flaw is the producers realized the mechanic/pilot tragic love story earned them somewhat good ratings (applause) then tried to repeat again with captain/commander tragic love story. It was plain easy to predict. I cried when the mechanic died but not when the commander died (is it because I'm a male?)

A good thing is they tried to make it recognizable. There is always the pilot-kid, the girl-kid and the mechanic-kid, who looks alike across generation :D pilot-kid is always cool, girl-kid is always female and mechanic-kid is always fat.

      Delete
    3. ^Asemu didn't have a fat mechanic kid, he had an awkward video-game-maker/mechanic kid and a fat mechanic dad (well, arisa's dad).

    5. Every Gundam show has a bit of that (fanservice, high school, etc) even the first one. I'm talking about when it completely takes over the story like the whole point of an episode is to peek at a girl's panties. That's where I draw the line and Gundam hasn't crossed it (yet).

  34. There's a problem with the length of the Gundam franchise: so many different series means a divided fan base. I've never seen so many fans of the same show argue so much. I hope we can all argee that AGE had at least SOME redeeming qualities, I personally liked it a lot, despite its flaws.

  35. I thoroughly enjoyed the series. Yes it did have some problems but I didn't mind them so much as everyone else is making such a big deal out of it. What I'm really happy about is that we got to see Flit's true self came back. Overall the series was all about Flit's Journey. It ended quite fittingly in the end. Won't be forgetting about this series

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If that's all about Flit's journey, why wasting time with

      (a) Asemu and Zeheart being friends -- Asemu finally surpass Zeheart.
      (b) Mechanic/Pilot love story
      (c) Captain/Commender love story
      (d) Kio visiting Second moon.

Yes, we can throw away Kio and replace him with Asemu coming as a pilot learning the truth by visiting Second moon himself (and found a second love, may be). Asemu has an enemy friend (if he found a second love on Mars' moon, then an enemy woman too) therefore, he is in a much better position to bring the "understanding" stuffs back to his old pop. We can throw away incompetant captain trained by a pilot, who finally die stuffs too. Two gens, two crews, one ship, they all fit perfectly into 49 episodes.

The problem is they want a 3-gen arcs in a 49 episodes. Even the guy behind Elfen Lied can't do it, I think. (Elfen lied is just 4.5 hours)

      Delete
  36. The show left a lot of opens for the characters though.

what happened to wendy? arisa? max? einus? etc etc. it would make it more complete if we were to know.

  37. Now that the show is over I can finally give my review and critique without some of the haters telling me to "wait until the show is over to make a judgement".
This show was terrible. It was stupid. It was really stupid. Horrible characters you don't relate to. Who the hell is Ezclant? I never cared about that twat.
    What a horrible ending.
They keep pronouncing same names over and over and ooover again. Zeeehartooo, Zehaaartooo, Zeeehartooo. It was dumb.
I'm a Gundam fan, I like the mecha design no problems there.
The love between Feces and Urine, is idiotic. She gave him a handkerchief and he was shocked, the guy built a figgin Gundam and he is serenaded by a towel! Flit just suddenly had an awakening. I'm so happy Flit became a savior yay!, That's sarcasm by the way. All rushed. They had a huge potential to bring things around in 49 Episodes. I learned nothing from this show...nothing.
It wanted to hit all the notes, but not a single one resonated with me. I'm happy it's over, now we can take a break and reflect on the POS. People don't want to be reminded that they age! no one gives a crap about a generation long story. There was no actual threat, or actual conflict. We never saw much of Earth to like it. They killed off Mwu or W/e his name is, in this series so stupidly and the captain just shed a small tear. Murrue would be pissed. Asemu is perhaps the only interesting character.
The only thing that explains all the shallow writing is that it is a kids show.

    Congrats guys, it's over.

  38. I think AGE should seperate into 4 Parts. Each part have 15 episodes and running for 5 seasons. Moreover AGE need a Good story writer and Animation director for Awesome action scenes.(Sorry for my Englisg.I'm not native speaker.)

  39. finally it's done. from the very start, AGE (i don't even want to call it gundam) sucked. starting from the character design that pretty much looks like a saturday morning cartoon, to the way the characters act. back then i told myself to keep watching hoping that somewhere in the span of the show, it will somehow become better. there are a few good episodes, but most are just plain shallow. in the end, after a year of enduring the show, all i got from AGE is disappointments. just sticking to the show only to know how will it end. also, AGE-FX would have been better utilized if Flit used it instead of crybaby Kio who refuses to obliterate the enemy. and yes, i frikkin hate the kio arc. or should i say kio. okay hate me if you want, but i prefer violence than trying to save everyone. pretty much there is a war going on and casualties are expected, specially in fictional shows. if you don't want it, go watch barney.

  40. After this series, there is one thing that is very clear to me.

THE GUNDAM FRANCHISE HAS THE WORST/CRAZIEST FANBASE EVER!

Anyway, this series is still good for me. Might be the best Gundam timeline since UC and AW.

    1. I know! A fanbase that actually wants a consistent, quality story is terrible! Why can't they just accept awful pacing, and endless flashbacks of stuff that happened an episode or two ago, that do nothing to advance the story. Why can't crazy fans accept adding unnecessary characters to throw into a cockpit (for the sake of model kit and toy sales) and then kill them off in two or three episodes. Nevermind that those characters don't advance the story, "sane" Gundam fans will just take it. If wanting a well planned series makes me crazy, then someone should get me a straight jacket.

      Delete
    2. You are just talking for a certain side of fanbase that wants a perfect story. There are several out there who always rants at each episode, and saying Destiny is the best Gundam ever *sarcasm tag needed just in case*

Accept it, the Gundam fanbase is divided into several groups. You couldn't deny that there will be AGE, UC, SEED, WING, and 00 fans out there who will bash each other series.

      Delete
    3. Moreso, the division of the fanbase is what fuels Gundam. You'll have the hardcore fans who like one series and others who don't like another. Either way, they'll watch it and buy the products. The thing that all fans want out of a story is good story writing and good character development, and cool suits to boot. Since we fans will defend this franchise to our graves and are so enamored by it, we keep the Gundam machine running.

      Delete
    4. The biggest problems I see with Gundam fans is their complete inability to separate expectations from parts of the franchise they love and to rationally state the pros and cons of a show IN THE CONTEXT OF ITS UNIVERSE.

For example I wouldn't go judging G Gundam as an abomination because it's nothing like UC. Neither would I judge Age as terrible because it doesn't do the same story as Seed or 00. A show should succeed or fail in the context of its setting and world.

Unfortunately fans enamored with one interpretation demand that EVERY Gundam show afterwards follow the same formula which is stupid. Case in point: 08th MS Team fans want:
      - Every Gundam show should have dirty, run down mechs.
      - Every Gundam show should be about older grunts instead of kids
      - No newtype characters. EVER.

      Delete
    5. They should animate Gundam Sentinel. Noone hates that shit. If you do, fuck you!!

Nah I'm just kidding. Even Gundam-related series like Gunpla Builders receive a lot of flak despite being aimed for what it is, a Gunpla series rather than your typical Gundam story.

  41. Ehh Age was good starting out, but it got worse when it hit G3. It's fine to have characters that want peace, but not at the expense of their own comrades, and Hino just took Kio a bit too far initialy with the pacifism thing. There were too many characters and too many subplots in G3 to even care about. Seeing Flit go full circle throughout the show was awesome to watch, but all the minor characters got really shafted in this series.

The series was just average for me, some awesome bits early on but I felt very blah towards the middle of Kio's arc. Then there are way too many characters for me to actually care about.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 49 episodes feels too short, 100 seems better, this is too fast paced and does not have much room for side stories that involve main characters except for timeskips.

The Age-system was fun but had little sense when you realize that it has Deus-ex potential (Flit proved this when he rushed Kio's rifle attachment).

  49. In my side, i like Seed, destiny ,OO but for Age. I think that the Mecha is cool but the Story is too short and the detail/ending is not good. ( Sorry for Grammar mistake) It would be better if the story is longer and more detailed in each battle.( especially the ending parts which i dislike it). I want the ending to be like this:
Both Vagan and Earth Federation fight at their hardest but end up draw. So, they both retreat and prepare for another battle. then suddenly "Sid" appears and send a code; demanding both fraction to stop the battle. Both fraction refused and continued to battle; Sid then battles both fraction and kill large portion of them until the main characters from both side join force and defeat it. After the battle, both side make peace and everyone is living happily after. ( This ending might takes 4 to 5 episodes more)
Actually i don't want Zeheart and Fram to die.

I don't mind if you disagree with me but this come from my heart that want the Gundam series to be better. I hope that Bandai will create a better Gundam series after this.

  62. I thought AGE was okay, Asemu's arc was my favorite. If I could see a rewrite of arcs 3 and 4, it would be: Replace Shanalua with Girard, and have her be the reason "Jaburo" discovery and Kio's capture. Replace the phantom 3 with just Godom and have him be a Yazan Gable. Introduce Zera when Kio is on Mars, and explain that he is not Ezelcant's successor, because he could not accept his "dads" ideas that humans are worth saving, since he believes all humans are weak and will not change, showing no concern for Lu's death. Instead of Zeheart following Ezelcant's will, have him rebel and search for the EXA-DB in an effort to make an Eden for all, leading to the fight with Sid. Ezelcant with no other choice entrusts his plan to Zera who follows it only because he doesn't care and has nothing better to do, and have him fire the Digmazenon. Sid reappearing because it sensed technology from the EXA-DB (Vagan suits) and fusing with Zera proving to him through Sid's data that humans never change and him not wanting to be human, making him kill Ezelcant for representing his humanity. Next he targets Kio who is the last part of his humanity (the memory of Ezelcant's son) and have them battle while arguing over human understanding and coexistence. I think that would help a lot but what do you all think?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Also, having Lu and Deen betray Kio in the final arc. Shanalua was fine, just introduce Girard in G2 for a brief cameo. Or have Zeheart take Eden in its own direction and have him kill Ezelcant
