I like that first image; very epic-looking. But Mendagu (from the MG SF entry) seems to be right about design (and version of) having an influence over the merits and functions of the MG. I mean, if the RX-78 was #2, I wouldn't have chosen this over the OYW or 2.0 versions... Even if Beecraft's design still looks pretty good.
I've seen this used before in recent years, though, so maybe it wasn't impossible. *shrug*
If your secondary goal is true, then SF shouldn't be #1. I'd expect to see an even more obscure design there (*cough*Turn A*cough* but then again that is a good kit that deserves a spot in the rankings).
And if DHM wanted to boost sales, they'd do so by including an interesting freebie with the mag.
If anything, I learned from Sankaku that you can't trust the Japanese with polls. Seems to hold true here as well. :P

I'm pretty sure this top 20 thing was rigged for two purposes.

Secondary Goal: Increase sales of less popular/outdated kits.
