wow, I never thought it will be this good. its shield is huge and awsome! god, why they release mg delta plus instead of this ?? *banging head on wall*
Complaining about a fictional robot being "Technically unrealistic" is quite frankly stupid. Gundam is obviously not for you. And I doubt Katoki is overrated when his stuff sells by the bucket load. Just sounds like you're jealous.
Gold plated or not, I can't justify spending more on a HG kit than your typical MG. If they were to release a non-plated version, I'd buy and paint that in a minute.
First and foremost... Since when are mobile suits realistic? Even if they can be technically done, I don't think many designs in and beyond the non-Katoki-involved Z Gundam would work out, let alone any MS design from MSG itself being practical.
Overrated is also a matter of taste; many had thought that about Okawara and his many MS designs for the AU Gundams, especially during the 2000s when he was cranking 'em out for SEED and DESTINY. But neither he or Katoki are necessarily bad. Sure, you got a burnout from the many Katoki-designs and redesigns from Unicorn, but that's no different than people getting an Okawara burnout from the aforementioned SEED/SD, or being tired of the Kanetake Ebikawa MS designs in 00 and AGE, or (for some reason) instantly rejecting the Syd Mead designs from Turn A Gundam.
With that mentioned, I'm not the biggest fanboy of Katoki myself. While he's done some good designs and redesigns of mobile suits from the OYW-era UC MSs to the After Colony ones (my personal favorites of his), I must say this wouldn't be a design that peaks my interest. Then again, it's based on a Z Gundam-era MS design that I thought was okay, but not exciting enough to get in model/figure form.
But while he can give us facepalms with some things he may do that any of us may not be excited about, Katoki--like Okawara--isn't truly overrated. We just sometimes feel that way because he's involved in a project where he's told to design the entire lineup of mecha to be used. But even with such an overload, he manages to pull off some fantastic designs, and make some old ones (like the Nemo) look fantastic.
Besides, it's not like either of us could churn out better results. And keep in mind that this all revolves around science fiction designs based on the science fiction premise of giant mecha as military weapons. Even the mighty RX-78-2 is impractical and unrealistic.
This thing is just ridiculously overpriced. The original MG Hyaku Shiki, with all the gold plated parts like this, was the same price. And it was, you know, a master grade. Unless they are using actual gold in the plating(which has risen a lot since then) I see no reason for this thing to be so expensive.
Get with the times, plating has gotten expensive, look at the Unicorn, Nu, Sazabi, and Sinanju Titanium Finishes. Even back then, the MG God Gundam was 2500 yen and the hyper mode made the price shoot up to 4500.
The price is justifiable I believe. people who compare this to the HG or even MG Hyakushiki, are forgetting something. Those were designed to be gold plated, and to keep the costs minimal, the actual amount of pieces and engineering and such was diminished. The HG hyaku shiki pales in comparison to the HG Delta plus, the delta plus is just such a nicer kit. Really, the price should be compared to extra finish kits, such as the Titanium Unicorn and Sazabi, as those had similar levels of engineering as the Delta, and the extra finish that dramatically increases the price.
That being said, I don't really intend on getting this kit. I simply dont have enough money to just buy whatever kits that happen to catch my eye, and I'd rather get the reglar Delta Plus so I could paint it how I would want to.
Comparing the many years old HG Hyaku Shiki to HG Delta plus is just as unreasonable. This kit is overpriced however you dice it. Plus it jsut looks bad compared to better looking designs like Zeta Pluses. I would rather pay for MG Hyaku Shiki 2.0
Finally not only gold plated toughts . It's too pricy , HG Hyaku Shiki looks very familliar , also gold plated , ecxept for transformation it's costs 1200 yen!!! And believe me, for such old kit it's great!
i would buy it if its realease in MG.. awesome design
ReplyDeleteIf there is no swap part req I will buy it.
ReplyDeleteIts a HG, its obviously going to use part swapping.
DeleteFar more stable and safer than a fully transforming 1/144 kit.
wow, I never thought it will be this good.
ReplyDeleteits shield is huge and awsome!

HGUC kit for 4410yen? unusual...
ReplyDeleteQuite unusual, but it has its reason: Electro-Coated Gold Parts!
DeleteIt's probably gonna be gold plated, so that's why it's priced as such.
ReplyDeleteYet another technically unrealistic wannabe design from the overrated Katoki

good MS design, but looks bad when coated in gold.
ReplyDeletetoo bad bandai.
I hope Bandai releases a non-plated ver.!!!! I'd love to do a custom paint job on that kit

But that's just my opinion (directed at the Anon post from 3:24 PM on Feb 2nd), which can be taken or left, agreed or disagreed. *shrug*
DeleteSorry, it looks like you've put a lot of thought into your response, but that guy's probably just a flaming troll. I'd just ignore him lol

ReplyDeleteWell if you think about it those kits came out years ago. Prices change i suppose. (Not to mention the HG Hyaku Shiki was around 1500 yen or so)

Finally a person with common sense :D
DeleteGuess i will wait for the MG Delta Gundam. Maybe 7-8000¥ (@.@)
