DeleteFor one thing, the characters design does suck, and suck HARDCORE. As I was watching the series, (on episode 3 now) I could only be amazed by my own tolerance and general acceptance for this kind of anime, what with the piss-poor paper cut-out spaceships floating around, which serves as a reminder of The Land Before Time, A Place Without CG. But still, what jabs my eyes the most is the character design. I am blind as I'm typing this, aided by my seeing-eye cat.

DeleteBandai only started the more revolutionary improvement of the kits around 2007, but they did some experiments (ball joints on the arms, more movement at the part that is attached to the hip and legs) that helped future models have more articulation.

DeleteAs much as I like Seed and Kira, I have to admit Destiny sucks balls, Fukuda and his wife shouldn't have wait till the very last minute to turn in the script. Even then they should've postponed the release date to fix every thing. In a world of business, meeting dead-line is critical, however, if you turn in a shitty product, it's much better to actually apologizes to the customer, viewers, and shareholders, then rework things all-over until you get the desirable product. This is one of the time where Sunrise shows a gap in its time and quality management. Hope this won't happen again.

While I agree that Mwu coming back to life after they showed his helmet floating around in space utterly ridiculous, I think reviving him and making him work for EA was pretty legit since he was a pretty good pilot/commander (fighting off gundams in a mobius zero?) and he wasnt pumped full of drugs and stuff.

ReplyDelete- Cut the show down to 39 episodes (X is lonely!)
- Make Neo a clone! They've already established that cloning tech exists so why not animate a short scene hinting Mu had his DNA taken when he was at Alaska?
- Have Shinn show up in the final confrontation with Durandal instead of Athrun

With the HG remastered release, we now have all the main grunts of both ZAFT and Orb, but not for the EA! (I don't count the slaughter dagger or the gunbarrel dagger because the former belonged to phantom pain while the latter was a limited production model)

The two middle anons are dead wrong; Bandai owns Sunrise and subsequently manages and funds its various projects. This is as much a Bandai decision as it is a Sunrise decision, if not even more so, since Bandai will be digging into its coffers to pay for the tedious remastering process. Bandai will also be publishing the physical media and determining their price points while their hobby division produces tie-in merchandise to try and crank up the engine on the hypemobile.

DeleteThe 00 HGs were significantly more advanced and had the added benefit of being some of the most original designs we'd seen that decade. Furthermore, while I do not argue that the Cosmic Era MGs are bad, several solid MGs were released alongside the CE series across its lifespan, including the MG RX-78-2 v2.0, the MG Sinanju, MG 00 Qan[T], MG Wing Gundam TV and a horde of solid-yet-repetitive Zaku II 2.0 variants. What mad crack are you snorting?

ReplyDeleteWell I agree that most of the first half was good yeah. But once the camadrie breaks down between Athrun and Shinn I started to lose faith in the series.
DeleteI agree that the first half was good but Shinn and Athrun's relation breaking down wasn't necessarily a bad thing. They could have spun a really good story from that angle, the part where the series really broke down was when they decided Kira had to return. From then on it went really down the drain as Kira and co. did absolutely nothing to further the story. A better way to do so would have been to have Kira hijack a MS during the mansion attack and decide to go into hiding. While I don't like Athrun he could have been the rational lead teaching and showing Shinn that power isn't everything. Instead we got: SEED DESTINY.
DeleteMy problem with Shinn and Athrun's relationship is it seems to swing back and forth between Shinn starting to respect Athrun as a mentor and then hating him for petty reasons. I would have liked more consistency starting with Shinn hating Athrun and then grow to respect him as a comrade and friend. I think they were trying to salvage some of that with Final Plus ending but it was a little too late.
DeleteAm I one of the few people here who enjoyed Seed Destiny? People please, Seed Destiny was still a good series. Yes Shinn was kind of a douchy protagonist, yes Kira and Strike Freedom pretty much dominate the rest of the series when they appear respectively, and who can forget that the series had more holes in it than swiss cheese. I'm just happy that I might be able to watch the series on youtube since I can't watch Gundam Age. I just like Gundam, and I accept Seed Destiny for its flaws just as I would accept any Gundam series for its flaws.

DeleteThe frustrating thing with Destiny and CE as a whole is it has such a great setup and story but sadly falls through in execution.
I find it's direction BOLD. Reckless, I mean anyone else would have smacked the writer across the room and been like, That's absolute garbage, but some how this got through, and I fr one can't help but find it intriguing. I know if I tried writing a script where something like that happened and presented it, it would get pulled to pieces!
DeleteWhether or not it's a bold new direction is up for debate but the behind the scenes drama is well documented and most likely did affect production. Morosawa had brain cancer, an animator complained that scripts were late, Shinn's VA expressing dissatisfaction with his character, Lacus' VA says it was very stressful, etc.

DeleteAnd the more plausible reason for Kira's return to MC status was because, at the time of GSD's broadcast, he was still extremely over with the Japanese viewers, as evidenced by the then-current Newtype polls. Shinn, meanwhile, was popular with the viewers, but not as popular as Athrun and especially Kira.

There will be no new season or movie.
DeleteSEED is finished, there are no enemies left. Lacus controls the PLANTS and Strike freedom is the highest that universes tech will allow a gundam to go.
The Seed movie will most likely it will be about another group of rabid racist Earth Alliance people and Kira, Athrun, Shinn, Lacus and Cagalli will have to save the world again through the power of friendship (and beam spamming everyone into submission).

ReplyDeleteUm didn't you read the top posts? Those shows HAVE been remastered. You just can't buy them in most western countries. The latest MSG DVD release from Bandai before they went under uses remastered footage.
DeleteHopefully remastering the series would include not reusing so much stock footage. vary the battles up abit. While I was disappointed with Shin's character development (they could have turned him into a really awesome protagonist) and how the writers just fell back on kira to save the day, I really hope that the series will be tweaked somehow to make things right but this seems unlikely.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't get your hopes up. The only way to do that is to reanimate the whole second half of Destiny from scratch. Expect a few visual touch ups here and there but no change to the story.

ReplyDelete...Not sure what to think of this...this really won't be much different except with a bit better quality and scenes, story the same which I don't mind sorta. In my opinion Destiny doesn't literally mean Destiny Gundam but rather the PLANT, ORB, and E??(Lol forgot which abbreviation was for Earth military, etc.). I don't mind a 00 Remaster Project remove and add some more epic scenes.

ReplyDeleteWhy not make another Remaster for Gundam wing but instead of using the original MS designs, why not use Hajime Katoki's designs for a change. I mean, there is a lot of MG Gundam Wing EW especially the up-coming MG Tallgeese EW..... So why not use those... All that Bandai or Sunrise has to do is just edit and replace the original MS designs and replace it with Hajime Katoki's...... And that would be a great thing for me not just as a fan of Wing Gundam Zero, just because I AM TOO LAZY TO READ THE MANGA..... Especially that I just started playing SDGO a couple of months ago..... Oh by the way...... it would be better if there would be a first RG that uses the core block system, and I want Impulse Gundam and ZZ Gundam to do that......

For me the hd remastered seed destiny was no surprise. I can only bear with this nonsense from bandai if they gave me seed astray. Seed Astray is long overdue.

DeleteYou would think based on the key visual art that Sunrise decided to change the ending of GSD. The art looks cool, Destiny standing atop with flames surrounding it symbolizing a harbinger of destruction. Plus you have Messiah in the background in front of a red moon.

For me, Gundam Seed Destiny ends in Episode 34 or less, when Shinn goes like a TOTAL BADASS
