    1. Wouldn't that be too ordinary and no creativity at all?

      Delete
    2. It wouldn't matter if it was ordinary or not and the theme doesn't need to be extremely creative(with that being said it depends on ones own personal opinion on how they want something to look or if they are trying to appeal to a certain crowd). If that's the color theme they would want to use then they can. It is a color theme contest. :)

    3. And why would we need a CONTEST if the contestants don't have to be creative? Do you even know what you are talking about?

      Delete
    4. Yes I do know what I'm talking about. Like I said in my previous post "it depends on ones own personal opinion on how they want something to look or if they are trying to appeal to a certain crowd". A contest doesn't have to be creative, but no matter what people will always be creative about anything. "The theme doesn't need to be extremely creative". A lot of the submissions that are keeping it simple are great and they are creative in there own way. No matter how simple it may look.
The main point that what I was trying to get across with my first post was that simple or ordinary can be creative in it's own way.
Simple can be better than flashy, but again that's your own personal opinion on how you would like something to look. Wasn't saying that no one needs to be creative about the contest. :)

    1. I wouldn't be surprised, the line art provided was pretty hard to decipher at some parts/ it was a bit messy and tough to design with all those curves and line divisions @_@

    1. Did you get an email from GG saying that it is rejected? Ur Sinanju looks cool by the way.

    2. Not yet. I may just be anxious. I sent them a mail already so i guess i'll have to wait. They might be really busy though cuz even my entry to the jesta category is still not up and i'm pretty sure i did not alter that of any sort and should be posted soon too. Thanks for the feedback as well.

      Delete
    3. Yeah they need to get back to you soon so that you can make the changes accordingly, and turn it in before the deadline.

      Delete
    4. Which date did you send in your entry? I can check for you.

      Delete
    5. i sent it on the 26th and 27th. its a rozen zulu color scheme. i also resent it a few hours ago.

      Delete
    6. i'm guessing your work was disqualified since you made a huge change to the overall appearance. i've read some guy also did the same, added weapons to gundam and was disqualified too.

      Delete
    7. Thanks for the concern but its up now. Thanks for the G.G. staff for posting it.

      Delete
    8. I get why it was rejected the first time. It really does make a drastic departure from the overall feel. For me though, it's no more major a change than the one i did for my sinanju stein entry. I would even go as far as to say that my stein entry had a larger modification than your entry, Savvi.

    9. Roninmastermix, you know very well that this is a COLOR SCHEME contest, not REMODELING or SCULPTING contest.

You don't even know the differences between a ROZEN ZULU and SINANJU STEIN

      Delete
    10. @Anon: I know very well the difference between the two mobile suits. I did my homework, i know who angelo sauper is, i watched all the anime (have all the blurays except the episode 6) and did my research on the mechanical designs and background story of the UC line. I know that this is a color scheme contest. You can tell this is not the first time i've done art for something fictional and if you look closely, i incorporated some katoki hajime design elements in there as well. I KNOW WHAT IM DOING. i know for a fact that the stein is a prototype suit stolen by neo zeon and this is my visual representation of a scenario what MIGHT have happen if angelo had his way and not full frontal. All in just one image and some mobile suit name designation. But where is the fun in just coloring a lineart? Sure i can just slap on the rozen zulu color scheme on the stein but that wont make it stand out against the rest? I want to take a chance, a bold move. I read the rules and have asked/mailed in questions to GG. It may not be a REMODELING CONTEST but its certainly not against the rules to do it for this contest. And of course, the entry being posted is clear indication that my entry is qualified which is whats more important. If you can spot all the easter eggs and gundam references that i put in my entry, then i can give you the benefit of telling me that "You don't even know the differences between a ROZEN ZULU and SINANJU STEIN".

Of course the comment for savvi is for the his/her rejected art work and nothing more. Its not meant to be a commentary on how the contest is run nor judged. Hence my opening statement "I get why it was rejected the first time." I was even worried that mine will be rejected as well but i was glad it wasnt, thank GG for that. So please dont take my words out of context.

And for the record, SCULPTING involves reshaping an existing element of a subject and is vastly unrelated to remodeling in principle to be considered in the same argument for my entry's purpose nor for the contest.

No harm, no foul. Keep the constructive criticisms coming, we live and we learn

      Delete
    11. PS. we're all human, and if there was a mistake that i did it would probably be calling it a zulu since there is virtually no zulu influence at all in the suit design. (one can argue about the shoulder verniers) but i can see too what the statement above implies between the 2 suits. I should have just called it Rozen Stein or something. :P

  21. Humm, when I look at all these entries from home on my PC, all the colors are so rich and bright. Then when I get to school and look at them on the MAC, the colors are wash-out and not as rich. the black is more like a light grey, hot pink or red become lighter pink, anyone has the same problem?

  25. Hi GG, can you please check my entry, please? I submitted mine on March 28. Thank you

  26. It occurs to me that this is becoming a COLORING contest, not a color scheme contest. I guess some people just don't understand what a color scheme really is since they are not going to paint the Sinanju Stein plamo kit based on their own color scheme entry.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Roninmastermix: Are you sure? you certainly made a lot of effort making your latest entry, but high chance it won't win because the color scheme you pick has no originality and not even a good one.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks for the concern. I really appreciate it when people see the effort behind my art despite the fact that it can be to its detriment. I played safe with 2 of my entries and i think i can afford to take a risk on this one. I'm not gonna lie and say that i'm doing this just for fun only. I'm aiming high and slugging for a homerun here myself. Yeah im here to win. But this is something that i havent tried before and i'm quite satisfied that i accomplished what my vision was for this entry. If i don't win in this category, of course i will bit a bit disappointed but at least i was able to make something that only a few days ago was merely an after thought. In that regard i think i will learn something. Grow a bit despite the loss. It's one thing that art and effort can teach you that i have learned through the years. You may not win the pot of gold but you'll never lose the time and effort you put on your art. No one can take that away. That in essence is more valuable than the $50 or $80 kit that you will win.

To me, and i'm sure many artists too can echo my sentiments, originality is an overrated trait of any art work. One can argue that nothing is original anymore. We may have reached the point that whatever we may thought of is reference to or influence of something. Gundam in itself is a mash up of the then robot genre with real automotive and artillery design. Its no secret. Most artist if not all in our age will just take and mash one concept with another one. Its very very rare for someone to completely make something out of the blue and undocumented by media. Its the harmony of the concepts that creates the personality of originality in every art. Any self respecting art instructor can tell you that.

As for the color scheme i chose, i'm a fan of the rozen zulu. Ironically, i'm not a fan of hot pink nor purple. Its both a challenge to myself and to design for me to make it both work. I feel i struck the right balance by putting some hints of brown in there and at the same time it made some sense regarding the background story of the mobile suit. at the very least when you see the entry, if you are a gundam fan watching the anime, you pretty much already know what happened and how the stein got that color scheme.

  30. I submitted my entry earlier today, and after two updates (from what I can tell), I don't see it. I did not receive an email either. Are entries simply still being sorted?

    1. No wonder some bloke complained about skill levels disparity and unfairness to those who are not skilled at digital painting. Unless GG admins judge by the color combinations, not the special effects, weathering and detailing

      Delete
    2. Yeah, it actually reach a point where some people can be seen "compensating" . They play safe with color scheme and compensate by adding details and effects.
