In 1995, along with Bandai's revolutionizing plastic model technology to allow for fully poseable models and consumer's and creator's re-visioning of mobile suits as machines that could exist in the real world, Bandai took this concept and released a 3D model of the RX-78-2 to launch its MG line.

Since then, RX-78-2 Gundam has been released as Ver 1.5, Ver. Ka, Ver. OYW 0079 and Ver. 2 to mark the technological advancements of the time.

In December 2012, Nu Gundam Ver. Ka was released, showing the evolution of MG technology since "Ver 2.0". The detailed split armor parts and sliding gimmicks showed off the new technology and potential of Gunpla.

Upon reaching this landmark, and as a testament to the trials in the past few years for bridging into the future, in order to further evolve MG technology, we have now reached a point where we believe it is necessary to release a new MG RX-78-2 Gundam kit to consolidate all these advancements.

In looking forward to the future of MG, not only do we look at reproducing the newest Gundam designs, but we also include new interpretations of articulation and poseability for a "scale model produced for articulation" so that we can achieve a level of reality beyond our imaginations. This starts with MG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver 3.0.

Combining an "amazing level of articulation" and "ultimate moving external armor", we will incorporate a "moveable armor system" that surpasses the articulation of the previous Ver 2.0 model. This system will include a feature of allowing armor parts to move along with the inner frame. We have focused on improving the main obstacles to movement in previous models i.e. the shoulder armor etc..., which will now have additional articulation to improve movement greatly.

1. So Gundam 3.0 is an upscaled rg?

1. This is about as exciting as being told I have to go in for dental surgery. We don't need this kit. We just got the 78-2 v2.0 archetype in 2008 and the thing doesn't need another revision. Why is Bandai wasting time on this? Last I saw, Bandai Hobby was having trouble designing the Victory 2 back in 2011, was teasing a Wing Gundam Zero TV ver., and despite the demand for an MG Sazabi ver. Ka and ANY Gundam X-related MG's, they inflate the MG line with a promise of even more kit revisions? We don't need a billion goddamn RX-78-2's and Zakus every time Bandai needs to congratulate itself for learning to do more with plastic. The Nu Gundam ver. Ka was all the revolution we needed and all Bandai had to do was produce kits up to par with that design. More Gundams and Zakus wastes space in line for other MS that deserve new MGs or revised MGs way more than this over-marketed golden calf from 1979.

2. I don't even understand that long jap description, lol.
can someone point out which statement mention RG technology ?

dang, there goes my motorized MG cockpit .... xD XD

3. edgewood, calm your shit, no one is telling you to buy it. they want to improve current models that have little flaws in them so let them do it. also, take the pineapple out of your ass while you're at it.

Delete
4. @edgewood : there is nothing wrong with grandfather of all Gundam. Bandai always start from well known suit, RX 78-2 is god awfully well known in Japan/ entire world. Its always appears in ever media more than Seed or Wing. Also ver 2.0, ver ka, ver OYW and this upcoming ver 3.0, all have completely different aesthetic. Please hold your rage

Delete
5. In other words, anyone who bought the VER 2.0 back in 2008 are IDIOTS because they are too short sighted to see things in long term

Delete
6. ^ most, if not all gunpla collectors don't have the power to see the future so they are not idiots for buying gundam 2.0

Delete
7. @Anon 11:34: By that logic, don't buy anything ever because they will make a newer version of it. "Should I buy a new TV?" "No, they will make a newer version next year." "Should I buy it then?" "No, a even newer version is going to come out."

And that logic of yours is IDIOTIC.

9. Go check the MG history before bitching please , Bandai renew a new version of MG about every 4 or 5 years , and now is 5 years after 2.0 , it is about the time Bandai to do a 3.0 !!!

12. anon 7:44 is stupid because he doesnt know how to use sarcasm and talks in the third person to make himself sound more credible.

Delete
13. @Kevin - No need to be offensive. I was pretty calm when I posted my block of text. The 78-2 v2.0 doesn't need any revisions. Older MGs deserve revisions more than the RX-78-2 does. Things like the Hyaku Shiki, NT-1, Double Zeta, RX-79[G], Zaku I and the Freedom Gundam would be better served by an overhaul. I wouldn't even buy most of those, but I know they're popular machines and Bandai would make bank on any of them. As you said, fixes to the 2.0 in the 3.0 would likely be minor. The 2.0 is a fantastic kit and the only major flow is the torso movement but who expects to get good torso mobility out of something with a folded-up Core Booster inside of it? Not to mention, the same Core Booster will probably be in the 3.0. So why waste time? Why waste resources? The 78-2 is iconic enough that it doesn't need more kits right now. Perhaps in the future (this would've been a great 35th or 40th anniversary present), but at this junction in time other MS need the attention more than it does.

Delete
14. @Edgewood: It's not Core Booster, it's Core Fighter, please learn the difference. A Core Booster won't fit into the Grandpa torso.

Delete
15. That isn't the point? He makes a valid argument and someone picks out irrelevant semantics.

Delete
16. @Edgewood: i see your point, and parts of it i agree with.

however, i see this from two other standpoints: engineering and fiscal

engineering: RX-78 is the most basic gundam design we have, making it a wonderful template for adding new gizmos and what-not. it all has to start somewhere, why not "square one?"

fiscal: RX-78 IS the most iconic and well known gundam in the franchise. anyone who sees this kit, but has no knowledge of gundam besides this is going to go "OMGWTFBBQ ITS TEH GUNDAM!!1!! IZ GONNA BUY!"
music to bandai's ears.

Delete
17. My problem here is not that it's the RX-78-2 again. I understand perfectly well why Bandai would pick that model. It's iconic and a great model for experimenting with new technology because of its basic design. But my great fear is that after this kit they will introduce another dozen RX-78-2 variants and Zaku variants based off of it. Naturally, that's all hypothetical, but the MG line needs new things. A Rx-78-2? Fine. Another Zaku 2? I can live with that. But do something new after that. Please. There are a lot of older kits and series without a decent MG lineup waiting for it.

Also: the 'you don't have to buy it' argument is bullshit. Sure you don't, but healthy criticism of a company's policy is good for both company and consumer.

2. Another RX 78-2 mg kinda cool wonder if it'll be the manga Origin Version?

wonder what other MG will be announced soon, I hope some more from Zeta/Victory Series but hey OYW has some awesome suits too.

ReplyDelete
Replies
1. If it was the version from Origin, it would be called the RX 78-02. They added the 0 to differentiate between the two models as a sort of retcon. Also, the RX-78-02 can substitute one of its barely used beam sabers to attach a gatling gun or cannon to its right shoulder. Count on decals and addon parts to do just that in the future, though.

2. The day we get The Origin kits is the day my shelf gets some OYW mojo.

4. So is this essentially a 1/100 RG? I wonder how Banda will proceed with the MG line now? Will the older MGs get relaunched with the new tech? Will every MG from now on get the new tech? Will there be many sub lines of MG released, differentiated more by the tech used on them than the series they were introduced in? I'm quite excited, really, but a bit apprehensive since relaunching older MSs with new tech may delay the release of newer never been seen before MGs.

7. Exciting. Wonder which kits will be affected by this technology in the future.

10. So it does sound like it will be a bigger rg kit, but what will seperate it that makes it different from the rg line? I'm looking forward to seeing more of this, but there just doesn't seem to be enough...well info would be pointless to say, but pictures would greatly help and show what bandai is hoping to accomplish with 3.0

ReplyDelete
11. I've always wanted an RX-78-2 but didn't really feel the v2.0 so maybe this is right for me! But I do agree there's already so many versions of this, ver OYW is quite amazing already

ReplyDelete
12. I need a RX-78-2 for my collection. Might as well wait until the 3.0 is released. Hmm I have yet to build a real grade. Hopefully this will make building and painting Gunpla even more fun.

1. Hopefully those are actual decals on the shield too >.> they look sweet

2. Real Grades are fun to build. If you haven't started yet the gundam mk. ii is a good start. If this is indeed similar to RGs then the decals will be present but will most likely be waterslide. Another thing that separates RGs from MGs and HGs are the katoki-esque decals.

13. Seeing so many haters.. Must be kiddies that loves Seed/Wing/00 suits

I for one is freaking excited, always loved how meticulously detailed those RGs are. Just bought a OYW Ver. last month, will surely buy the 3.0 once it starts rolling out.

1. Hey i'm a wing/destiny suit Fan and this is really cool that the RX 78-2 is getting a Version 3.0 however RX 78-2 has had a lot of models while Wing has had hardly any good models in the last couple of years. Now the Seed/Destiny modelers shouldn't be complaining CE gets MGs all the time.

I know that this Version 3 RX 78-2 is just a kick off for the new MG line and we will be getting many more MG in the coming months

2. You do realise that Wing got 10 MGs in the last few years.....

14. Woohoo another RX-78-2 *sarcastic sigh* and I hope this isn't Bandai's "Big Reveal" for the upcoming Shizouka Hobby Show because that would be severely disappointing seeing as though they could've made a Sazabi Ver Ka which would be much more worth it than just an upscaled real grade.... Just have to hope for the best, don't disappoint us Bandai!!

4. @dyan The Ver. 3.0 of my Zaku will be *pun alert* 3.0 times better! No? Okay..... It was worth a shot.. Just like dropping Axis.... But then Amuro had to get in the way..... Again....

7. Unless im mistaken, their making the MG Sazabi ver KA right now, Itl probably take a while due to its design and wanting to get the Katoki MG detail into all of its bulky body

15. So the big announcement was the most obvious of choices MS wise, eh?

Cool for anyone who still doesn't have a MG RX-78 or is just new to Gunpla. Happy for those who are into this.

16. For all those saying this is an upscaled RG.. You are all idiots..

Baseless assumptions when the only thing released right now is a CG render.

It has the RGs PROPORTIONS, but this will definitely feature newer or same technology as the Sinanju Stein/ Nu Ver. Ka.

3. You're not alone. I'm excited as well. Looking at the CG, seems that the gold parts in the elbow joint will be molded in instead of foil stickers like the RG. And some kind of movable arm gimmick which will probably be like the PG

I'm biased though. I don't have a RX 78 kit yet, and this is the first one to be released after I got into building gunpla. This is a must have and not a disappointment at all

Delete
18. I wish they had just put this tech in a kit for a new suit.

I mean its good they're putting RG detail in a MG suit, but still, kind of disappointing that it's another RX-78-2.

Delete
3. Well its not a RG since the frame isn't pre assembled.
Its a 1/100 MG that has a similar exterior look to the RG. Learn the difference.
You might as well start crying that its just a big HG RX-78 30th anniversary model.

Delete
4. Actually we don't know that the 3.0 frame isn't pre-assembled. The MG 3.0 change could legitimately be the tech from the RG line creeping in to the MG line.

Delete
5. Its not RG tech. Pre assembled frame parts have already been used in the MG 1.5 and OYW RX-78. They haven't returned to it for a reason, molding those parts takes longer than molding a runner of parts that someone can assemble themselves.

Delete
6. no dude, its FIGURATIVELY a 1/100.

Delete
20. To be honest, I'm not surprised. Once in a while, it seems it's compulsory for Bandai to re-release the RX-78-2 Gundam, no matter how many times it's been done before. At least please release some more interesting kits after this (I know it's the most iconic MS in the franchise, but at least remember that fans want other stuff as well).

That said, I'll gladly put away my RX-78-2 2.0 and buy this if it's RG quality.

ReplyDelete
21. Makes sense, the advances made in the RG line are now perfected and implemented onto the flagship line, MG.

ReplyDelete
22. Zaku II 3.0 O_O

Me want!!! I haven't had the chance to build an actual Zaku yet, so a 3.0 would be awesome!

ReplyDelete
23. Please release more mono-eye kits for this new build, mono-eyes need some love

ReplyDelete
24. hmm so many people assuming this is just an up-scaled RG...well I guess we just have to wait in weeks time to see if they give more information about this at Shizuoka...and it's safe to assume that we could expect a Char's Zaku II 3.0 shortly after the RX-78

ReplyDelete
25. I just bought the 2.0 kit and built it. The kit has issues i.e. bad core fighter wings, and the spacing to hold the leg pegs.
I hope they fix this in the 3.0

ReplyDelete
26. ywah, google translation is horrible, but can surely understand this will not be a 1/100 RG. No? For me seems like they just mix well a new junction type with the external armor method..that's all...

ReplyDelete
27. All it really says is they're introducing something called the Movable Armor System, where the external armor plates are linked to the internal frame structure to provide better range of motion. Which sounds a lot like stuff they've already been doing, like having MGs with sliding thigh armor. About 90% of it is fluff over how Bandai revolutionized the poseable model kit, and yadda yadda, insert "Also Sprache Zarathustra" here, you get the idea.

ReplyDelete
28. Anyone realize that Bandai has time (not to mention effort and money) to make a 3.0 of the grand daddy of all suits, while they leave out most of the previously released suits (like the Sazabi, the Gundams from 0083, the Zeta Pluses, etc) without even giving them the 2.0 treatment? Not that I'm hating the RX-78-2, but I, for one, think that the 2.0 was good (except for the skirt flaps) and that making a 3.0 isn't exactly necessary at the moment.

ReplyDelete
29. So is this the big MG announcement!? Did the info get leaked, its like 2 days early. I really hope this isn't all they have up their sleeve because its a bit predictable.

But on the good side, can't wait to see what they plan to do with it, I highly doubt it will be just a 1/100 RG, because that would alienate a lot of hobbyists who like to customize kits...

ReplyDelete
30. Im a little dissapointed with this news, but it is to be expected. I was kinda hoping to see a "big" MG like the Sazabi. Well, i guess the plus side is that you can expect the 3.0 technology in the future MG releases. I just hope that it wont be the Zakus and the Seed series anytime soon.

Com'on Bandai, UC universe need some more MG love!

31. Can it move by itself? If not I'm waiting for 4.0 lol.

2. As long as 4.0 has link to online server called skynet I'll bite.

32. I think I'm the only one who doesn't want the MG line to get tainted by something like this. I don't care that much about recolors, exclusives and rehashes (sinanju->stein, rezel->type-c), even a 3.0 is good. But adding the funky style of RG into the MG line? I love the simplistic looks of 2.0. IMO, they have enough details. MGs aren't anime accurate, but at least they're close. RGs on the other hand are meant to stray afar from their anime looks.

They should've made a new line instead of adding this in to the MG line.

3. I know that you retard.
Lets break it down: redblondemean does not want RG style kits in the MG line as they are far less anime accurate than standard MGs.
I'm just telling him that it is already too late and the Nu Ver.Ka was the first of this multi shade armour trend in the MG line.
Reading comprehension much?

4. Come on now, no need to argue over some model kits. As for the original post, it isnt making you buy it, Im still gonna pick up a ver 2 of the RX-78-2, even after my Ver 3

3. I agree with you re the thought on the RG line. In fact I think Bandai is pretty clever in efficiently re-apply research result of one product from any branch (ie Robot Damashii, RG, MG, etc) to all other branches. The turn-around time of technology is pretty fast in my opinion.

Buying a proven technology is not a bad thing. But from buyer's perspective, perhaps it is not as refreshing sometimes, at least that is how I feel when I saw this news :P

Yes. I'm glad someone here actually wants to contribute and understand my point of view.
The problem I see with Bandai's trends lately and now this Ver. 3.0 thing that re-incorporates the RG RX-78-2, upscaled into 1/100 scale under the "MG" line concerns me.

I think that the fact that:

a. we're getting this 3.0 which basically says screw you to the RG line
b. we've been seeing a high frequency of online exclusives
---> Tallgeese II
---> RG Wings of Light
---> MG Launcher/Sword Striker pack
---> MG Blitz Gundam Mirage Clear Ver.
---> MG Marasai Unicorn Color Version
---> MG MSA-003 Nemo Unicorn Color
---> MG 1/100 Crossbone X2 Ver. Ka
---> MG 1/100 Double Fin Funnel Expansion Unit
---> MG 1/100 MS-06S Black Tri-Star Zaku Ver. 2.0
---> MG 1/100 MS-06S Zaku Version 2.0 Real Type Color
---> MG 1/100 MSA-003 Nemo Unicorn Desert Color Ver.
---> MG 1/100 RX-78-2 Gundam Version 2.0 Real Type Color
---> MG MS-06R-1A Yuma Lightning Zaku II
---> MG MS-06S Zaku II Johnny Ridden version.

c. Bandai is cutting costs and making strange/bad choices
---> lighter frame on newer MG's
---> Geara Zulu HGUC kit having brown armor? WTF
---> MG Nu Gundam Ver. Ka not having light piping going all the way to the back camera as well and not including LED's for an already expensive kit

I dunno. I think I'll wait and see if Bandai does anything stupid in terms of releases and online exclusives from this year's Shizuoka Hobby Show.

Delete
5. A: Does it anywhere say that Bandai is thinking of neglecting the RG line? NO
B: Online exclusives have nothing to do with production choices for regular kits.
I dont even know why the fuck you brought that up.
C:How are lighter and lacquer paint friendly inner frames a strange or bad choice?
ROZEN zulu colour issue is due to pigments changing the properties of the plastic, purple plastic was not meeting bandai standards. Learn to fucking paint a MODEL KIT.
The Nu Ver.Ka did not come with an LED as it was already expensive enough and Bandai sell them individually anyway.

Nothing you just wrote had anything meaningful to do with this kit. Its all just pointless speculation with you.

6. @suiton629
hoho these are very interesting observations you have :) You mentioned earlier that Bandai could be low on ideas, I think it could be very true if we are talking about what they could do to innovate again.

What kind of product does Gunpla builder want, will sell a lot and hopefully cheap to make ? It must be a question that bring headache to the stuff in Bandai. Perhaps before a clear answer could present itself, all they could do is based on what they already know, introduce some twists and see what happen?

Or perhaps they really know what they are doing with great momentum in follow ups? I have no idea :D

It is interesting that from the description and the image, it seems to suggest the focus of MG 3.0 is on the "form". We all know it is quite hard for models to truly represent what it seems like in the show. This is a problem for most RG, MG etc too. From the picture it seems to suggest the parts could shift itself slightly to create a nice outline to best approximate the image from the animation.

Is this refreshing enough or this issue important to the builders? We won't have to wait long to find out now :)

About the strange/bad choices such as the Nu Gundam ver Ka back camera light piping issue, I wonder if this is their way of "leaving rooms for modelers to improve on". :D I do find myself having a bit more fun building HG or None-Grade kits more than MG kits these days, simply because there are more issues for me to think to fix. But thats just me :P

7. Suiton, for the most part I understand what you're saying, but your B and C points had things that made me shake my head.

I think all of the colour variations and different versions were actually smart not to put on shelves, they'd waste more money on putting all sorts of colours of the same suit in stores, when people can just go online and pick which one they prefer straight up. The RG Destiny's wings is just them being cheap... but the Strike isn't, seeing how you can just buy the old Strike and use those packs. The Tallgeese and the Crossbone X2 were the only things that didn't make sense to me that they put in the store.

On the idea of a lighter frame, it makes sense as they can use that technology to make models for heavier suits like the Kshatriya. On the Nu Ver.Ka, it again makes them more money to not put the lights in the kit so that people actually hunt down the lights online and such. The purple made no sense to me, however I agree that if you really had a problem with it, you'd just buy purple paint.

In no way do I think Bandai is running out of ideas, the 3.0 is proof of that they aren't! Using new technology and new innovative ideas to renovate their oldest and most iconic suit is no sign of that at all. Bandai's biggest problem is coming out with suits that have interest with the fans and what will generate the most profit for them.

39. I think the best way to demo new technology is to show how an old design could benefit from new technology. I am guessing this is why RX78 always get picked.

For me, it would be interesting to see how they improve the waist articulation this time. It is indeed a tough engineering challenge with a core-fighter in there. I am looking forward to it.

Pictures does show some Knee mechanics sliding and fold-out parts to fill in the shape. It does look quite promising, not ground-breaking but interesting for sure.

I definitely am looking forward to you guy's reviews when it is out, but I do not think I will get one for myself. Building another RX78 is a bit too much for me :P

Full translation.

47. I hope this is not the big surprise bandai was annoucing. Sure it's cool, but somewhat predictable. I, for example, would like to see a alternative "customizable" brand, like making a MG without moulded colours and ready for painting, and obviously cheaper price, since all I see on the internet it's painted or custom models. It would be a lot of money for bandai and would make fans happier.

ReplyDelete

1. Noooooo...O.o What about the MANY MANY MANY people who don't want to paint there kits and just want a physical kit of the suits they love without all the work of painting it or anything. I know a few of my friends and family wouldn't have gotten into Gunpla if they had to do all that. They are perfectly happy with just putting it together and panel lining it. :) I love painting my kits, but thats just me. The original gundam kits were one color actually and you had to glue them and paint them.

Delete
2. I never said it was meant to replace them, but rather to "run along" with the color-moulded ones. I do get you, I actually like my kits simply as possible, but for some, getting all the materials to paint its kit is very pricy, so a cheaper and non-colored version would be very nice

Delete
3. Actually I would almost guarantee that this is what it is. They just released computer art for the MG Geara Doga with no major fanfare. For all practical purposes a Sazabi Ver Ka wouldn't be that much different in their eyes than the Geara Doga. It wouldn't change the MG line. Incorporating RG tech into the MG line on the other hand is a much bigger deal as it will affect a lot of new kits. That doesn't mean we won't get a Sazabi ver Ka. It just won't be as "groundbreaking" as the 3.0 kits.

Its announced rx 78-2 ver 3.0 because it already has a 2.0
Bandai is probably just showing off the improvements they made and what better way to do it than the grand daddy itself
This probably will point to future MG having Nu ver ka level of built and details which i think is excellent and that they will start remastering the very popular ones(zaku, zeta) or those that seriously need some upgrading(Sazabi).
Just enjoy the products released and if u dont like them, don't buy them

53. I think that it should be obvious that Bandai is stuck from a creative standpoint. They have released almost every suit from the OYW in MG form. Most of the non-Gundam Z and ZZ designs have aged terribly. They've released MG kits from the more popular Gundam designs from all of the recent series. The only options they have at this point are:

1. Create new shows with new Gundams to make MG kits of and hope there is enough interest in the new designs that they will sell well.

2. Start focusing MG love on the suits that have never got it which won't necessarily sell well unless they knock it out of the park design wise.

3. Release updated versions of more popular designs that have always sold well which is effectively the same as printing their own money.

From a business sense 3 is the safest choice.

I think the justification for upgrades is also dependent on how bad the original kit is. The MG Gelgoog is a perfect example. The original MG Gelgoog kits turn into rag dolls within a few years of building them. The Zeta 1.0 was a rag doll from the start. The MG Dom on the other hand was a very well designed kit that hasn't needed an upgrade.

As far as the RX-78-2 3.0 it makes perfect sense since the existing "non-anime" MG RX-78-2 kits don't have the same range of poseability as the 2.0.

ReplyDelete
Replies
1. I agree with what you said, especially with number 2. As fans we all want to see all kinds of suits made into MG. But as the ones making the kits, Bandai needs to get a return. As hardcore gunpla enthusiasts, we would be more than willing to buy kits like the Rozen Zulu, the Jegan, and any non-main mecha. But would that be enough to give them a significant return? Quite the risk if you ask me.

Also, upgrades are made to kits that are either in need of an upgrade (like the original is bad or has design flaws), or is a design that fans will buy regardless of how good the original might be (like the Hi-Nu or Strike Freedom). The marketability of the kit is always the consideration.

Delete
2. I think a perfect example of #2 is the MG Turn A Gundam. They were only ever going to get one shot at it realistically. IMHO they knocked it out of the park as the engineering on the Turn A was phenomenal.

Another example was the MG Acguy. While the Acguy has more fan love than the Turn A it is still an acquired taste design. They had one shot at nailing it and personally I think they did it perfectly.

I am curious as to how the MG O turned out because it would definitely be a one shot to get it right design. I am not a big enough fan of The O so I haven't picked it up which illustrates the conundrum.

Delete
3. The MG The O was fine. It was big, the price tag was high too but it was fine. It's not really a design people outside of the hardcore fans are crazy about but they pulled it off quite well.

Reality is, the designs that would be improved the most are the popular, more iconic ones. That doesn't mean we won't get non-main suits that have the same type of engineering advances in them. The MG Jesta is one great kit and it's a grunt kit. But the main ones get to see new versions simply because they are main mecha.

54. looking from that CG picture it looks like the new grand daddy will have the individual pre assembled finger like the nu ver ka, also with what it seems to be the color separation. this is good news, because that means the future MG will have the individual finger since the grand daddy have the "standard" gundam size, so, hoooraay, i guess

The 2.0 MK II is almost a flawless kit, and Zaku, the Gouf, and Gelgoog are all great.

I think bandai will put "3.0" technology into some older kits that need 2.0 treatment: Alex, GP01-3, and maybe even the G Gundam MGs, Hyaku Shiki, Wing Zero, and a new Wing Zero EW.

This is what I'm hoping for. And excuse me if someone has already said this in this thread

I am UC-era guy. The original MSG series will always get the best treatments. Even MS that only appears once or twice get great MG kits.

Personally, I'd like a more MG variant using the same frame but difference armor parts, similar to B-Club's resin convesion kits. Bandai can easily makes MG Dreissen from MG Dom. MG Gelgoog 2.0 can easily become MG Gelgoog Jager/Marine/Cima's Custom Marine/ReGelgu. etc etc.

60. It seems to me that everyone is afraid of what this will mean for other MG kits. No one seems to factor in the release of Origin next year. Of course Bandai wants to put a final high-tech version of the original Gundam before flooding the market with "Origin" kits. If I were Bandai, I would not want the original to get lost in the shuffle, or even worse, release a 3.0 kit to compete with other similar designs. Just remember, if they had announced a Mk. II 3.0 instead, everyone would be wondering when they were going to release the RX-78-2. This takes some of the guesswork out of it and opens to door to practically anything under the sun.

ReplyDelete
61. I haven't picked up a Master Grade RX-78-2 yet, so this release is as good as ever to dive in and pick one up. My main concern is if this 3.0 release will have enough extra features to warrant it more than just a "1/100 Real Grade."

Sure it had great frame, but it also didn't many, if any, panel lines to show off the details. One of the biggest turn-offs for me about the 2.0 was the over-sized hands. If I had to pick which version(s) of the RX-78-2 I would get, I'd pick the Version Ka, the OYW version, and this new 3.0.

80. i guess i understand why bandai would make another mg version of the rx-78....i mean it is the first ever gundam....and it's iconic....and i think it's, for a lack of a better word, "symbolic" to them? that they make newer ver. of the grandad gundam.....though i kinda do agree that it looks somewhat like an up-scaled model of the rg rx-78-2...no insult intended....though i wonder if they're gonna make a ver. 3.0 of the mk-ii...i really love that MS..soo...militaristic ....=D

81. What I don't understand is why people are still referring to the 3.0 (hopefully we get one of my zaku) as an upscaled real grade just because of color seperation when, if anything it's a down scaled Odaiba 1/1 gundam, none the less still excited for this release
