Project to compile TV anime with focus on 2nd generation's Asemu & Zeheart
The official website for the Mobile Suit Gundam AGE anime confirmed on Wednesday that production on Mobile Suit Gundam AGE Memory of Eden has been green-lit. This project will recompile the television series (from the Asemu arc onward) to focus on the characters Asemu Asuno and Zeheart Galette.
In the AGE anime, Asemu was the main character of the second generation with Zeheart as his antagonist. The television series premiered in October of 2011, and it ended on September 23, 2012. Shortly thereafter, producer Masakazu Ogawa mentioned the tentative plans for a new project featuring these two characters, and he revealed earlier this month that the project had "finally" been green-lit.
Gundam AGE episode director Shinya Watada is helming Memory of Eden at Sunrise with episode writer Noboru Kimura in charge of scripts. Other returning staff members include story supervisor Akihiro Hino, original character designer Takuzō Nagano, character designer Michinori Chiba, and musical composer Kei Yoshikawa. The project will reunite several of the cast members, including Takuya Eguchi as Asemu and Hiroshi Kamiya as Zeheart.
Previous Gundam and Sunrise series have spawned similar "Special Editions" compilations.

    2. And what did he do to deserve your comment? This is why we can never have nice things. While I may not be a UC fan and have been mocked by UC elitists, to insult other fans simply by their preference is just idiotic. *sigh*

    3. hmm, I hate when people has resort to insult when other have different taste/opinion.
      looks childish.
I mean this for 1st anon, not for Rick James.

but it's understandable. most age fans are bunch of kids. ~_~
      most, not all.
I like gundam age, but I hate how the story seems too rushed.
I hope this Memory of Eden project can fill some hole in gundam age rushed story.

    4. "UC elitists", huh? Well, I guess that's true; if one likes the best (i.e. "elite") thing, then that technically makes one an "elitist", right? So thanks for the compliment, Twatty McCuntface.

    5. Because UC fanboys OBVIOUSLY are better than everyone else. Go fuck yourself.

    6. my favorite series is 00.
      without a doubt.

but, AGE is really bad. even SEED had nice mechanical designs, this just had the vagan.
it's simply not a good show. and for people who say it was rushed, Gundam X had 39 episodes and made it seem tightly plotted, rather than rushed. it was simply not as good a job as it could or should have been.

and like it or not, the various UC shows are better, simply because they have more effort put into them. if a new gundam AU show had exactly as much effort put into it as unicorn or zeta, it would be a revelation.

also, i trust UC fans more, because they are more reasoned and more sane.

none of this shipping shit from wing, or fangirling for shinn.

they view gundam as seperate from other anime, rather than just another show to treat the same as whatever else is on.

    7. "also, i trust UC fans more, because they are more reasoned and more sane."

That's as a UC elitists statement that I've ever read on. Either you're the condescending elitists type or someone who doesn't realize how much of a UC fanboy they really are.

    8. This is my problem with the Gundam fandom. Absolutely no one can get along. Everyone is yelling insults at each other for just having certain preferences. I enjoyed AGE somewhat(NOT GEN 3. Kill Kio.), and seeing all this hate for both UC and AUs get me upset. Universal Century in general has better pace, plot, and realism than AUs, but that's no reason to freak out at all who love AUs. And UC haters.... well, I don't know why you'd hate it, but I can understand the whole "UC elitest" thing. Love what you love, hate what you hate, don't just flip out at each other like this. It makes us all look silly.

      Delete
    9. Here's the thing: no Gundam is perfect. It's impossible to please everyone. While not all AUs are good, UC has turned out it's fair share of mediocore crap too (ZZ, F91, G Saviour). Just because its old people remember the good parts and forget the bad. This is where the hypocrisy lies. I for one like both UC and AU equally. Both offer something different so insisting that one should be like the other is stupid imo. Thats why I hate comments like "next show should be like 08th MS Team!" which does nothing but stifle creativity.

      Delete
    10. Finally! Someone who makes sense. I agree with you completely. It would be nice if Gundam tried something totally different. The more new ideas, the better.

      Delete
    11. What's wrong with F91 other than the fact that it got scrapped as a series and became a rushed movie?...

oh.. Okay, still enjoyed it still.

the ones that are most trusted and sane are the "Gundams Fans"

    4. can we keep the flame war to one wall of replies...instead of two.

on topic: i consider UC my favorite universe. why? simply because it mostly appeals to me: Minovsky Physics, mech designs, story, and background makes it my favorite. (if you call me an elitist you will forever be branded as a SEED fanboy, regardless of what you like.{wing if your japanese})
wing appeals to me as well because its "down to earth" (if that term can even be applied)
seed somewhat appeals to me because of the mecha designs (destiny i hate, nothing will change that)
G is meh (story is decent)
i have not seen gundam X, so i cannot for a opinion
turn A appeals to me because its different
age generation 1 and 2 appeal to me. not gen 3 and 3 gens (those i put with destiny)
00 first season i like (even though its a wing rip-off)
00 second season and movie go with destiny.
i wont talk about any other "content" *cough*gsaviour*cough*

    1. I think Bandai didn't want to completely abandon AGE since they've already invested in it (gunpla moulds/ factory stuff, ads, etc.). The Asemu arc was good compared to the other arcs and it also had the most time-skips so I guess those made it the best choice for further expansion

  5. Just wondering, isn't the series not that accepted by the Japanese public? Just curious really how the management way of thinking. I feel that the series is good but wanting. The abrupt story line finish, the plot holes and the under developed characters. The series has its promises, and I really would like to see how Sunrise follows up with the criticism of the series.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, that's also my question. And although asemu is my favorite character, why did they choose to expand his character instead of flit? Hmmm I wonder who's the most popular character in age (age only) in japan, did they do a survey for that?

      Delete
    2. A creator's interview I read on Mechatalk says that the sales for Gundam Age stabilized around Gen 2 and fans were starting to react positively around that time. That's probably why Gen 2 was chosen.

    2. Ok think for a second. Who would watch Gundam Origin beside old UC fans? Where is the commercial appeal of a show whose entire premise is a WWII space drama with giant robots? As much as Age sucked, it's marketing pitch makes more sense if you're trying to reach new kids who don't give damn about the older shows (regardless of their quality).

      Delete
    3. Maybe you should think for a second.I cant believe what are you saying...who would watch Gundam Origin?Probably you are a newbie that the only Gundam anime you saw is AGE.First of all UC is the most beloved era in Gundam fans. They just cant have enough. Both the old and the new fans.Thats why the 80% of the Gundam products are related to the UC.Every person who wants to start the Gundam franchise will go with UC related anime, magna, ova especially with Gundam Zeta and compilitation movies.

If you ask a Gundam fan he will tell you ''All i want is UC,nothing else.....''
It is common sense for all Gundam fans that UC>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Every other Gundam Era.

Also every AGE product sold like shit.DVD,Blu-Ray,Videogames,Models everything. It is a failure from start to finish.

As for the Anonymous who told me to shut up and called retard all i have to say is this.Only a retard should call me retard cause i called the AGE anime crap.I guess if this was true then me and the 99% who watched AGE and hated it to death should be all retards.......

    4. WTH made you think I've only seen Age!? My favorite Gundam show ever is the original movie trilogy. It's you who has completely missed the point. I said that kids today who are NOT GUNDAM FANS wouldn't care about a remake of a show that's 30 years old. Origin could very well be successful but it WILL NOT be on the basis of UC nostalgia.

      Delete
    5. Well, I like to think that Origin is an opportunity to bring new fans into what gundam really is all about. Like you said, new fans don't care for the UC nostalgia, but having a new series that tells them about UC in a new way, a fresh way, they would like it, and grow interested in the old UC shows. They would just see it as a new gundam series. Origin has the potential to bring old fans and new fans together, and that can only be a good thing

      Delete
    6. @SomeOtherAnon

Hey thanks, I too want Origin to succeed just as much as anybody else because I love the original story. At the same time I have to consider the possibility that it won't be the runaway success I want it to be. As much as I hate to admit, a lot mainstream anime fans look down the mecha genre. Age didn't do much to change that impression.

      Delete
    7. You're right, mecha is not very popular, except for the obvious choices of macross frontier (because of the cosplay possibilities) and Evangelion (which isn't even a mecha series). It's a shame, really, because the mecha genre has a lot of good things to offer, and not even counting Gundam. ZOE, for instance. Origin will proly never gain new supporters to the mecha anime cause, but at least it may show the new fans what Gundam is all about, which is something that Age completely fumbled. Here's hoping ^^

      Delete
    8. Code Geass is more of a character drama with some mecha thrown in. Knightmares don't play a pivotal role in the story, instead its geass.

that aside, please do give everyone respect, except for the particular blacksheep below me. all gundam series will definitely have flaws, and that kept me going on loving series like SEED Destiny and whatnot. i enjoyed all the gundam series i had watched, such as MSG, Zeta, F-91, CCA, Wing, X, Turn A, SEED/Destiny, 00, AGE (season 2!) and Unicorn, and many other of those like Stardust, 0080, 08th ms team(brilliant!!).

so, let us all stop the war and enjoy what is put out! as i said before, its a pity that a show that promotes peace is used as a base for flame wars.

  10. Think of it this way: Bandai owns Gundam (not Sunrise). Bandai sells models. Models of Age-2 probably sold well/the best. That's more than enough reason for Bandai to milk the Age-2 line further.

Remember, Bandai doesn't care whether an anime is good or not as long as the model kits sell. That's why Destiny is still being promoted in Japan despite being almost 10 years old. The models sales probably fund the entire remaster project.

  21. A special edition of sorts focusing on the best generation of Gundam AGE? Sounds good to me so far. Maybe they'll retcon all of AGE-3 for us while they are at it. Otherwise it will be hard to watch anything involving Zeheart when we know how badly his story concludes. Oh well, more Asemu I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I liked AGE from the beginning and even Kio was acceptable, even thought he was really -PEEEP- towards the end.

I´am looking forward to this and hope they release MG Double Bullet with this.

    1. Kio started off really well IMO, but by the time the arc was over he (and basically the arc as a whole) had degenerated to pants-on-head-retarded.
Zeheart was the worst of all, going from a mildly interesting Char rehash with a little Treize thrown in to a raging, frothing-at-the-mouth lunatic who made Rau Le Creuset in the last episode of Seed look sane. To the point that when Asemu effortlessly curbstomped him in thirty seconds flat (the actual combat engagement lasted fifty-some seconds, half of which was dialog), I cheered.

      Delete
  23. I was just going to make a comment about how the Asemu arc was my favorite of AGE and that it sucked how it was time skipped and rushed. And now it's really cool there going to have a chance and expand on that.

But reading all this hate hate hate.... Would all you haters rather they never make another Gundam show, so you can stop hating? Or are you going to hate no matter what because secretly hating is what gets you hard? NTR hurts so good.... :3

    1. All I see are Age fans hating ppl who say they don't like Age. It's the old "you don't like what I do, so you're a hater and I hate you" argument... Hypocrisy at it's best ^^. About rather not having a new gundam show, that is also a fallacious argument. If someone gives you a shit sandwich, and everybody else has already enjoyed a really good, tasty, gourmet sandwich, would you be happy with your sandwich, just because it a sandwich? Just because Age was the new gundam show we got, doesn't mean we have to be automatically grateful for it, and cursed be the one who actually states his opinion otherwise. You liked, good. But the same way I respect you for liking it, and respect you for voicing your opinion on that, you should also respect everyone who says they didn't like it, instead of calling them haters, making yourself not only a hater too, but a hypocritical hater... It's this kind of elitistic attitude that breeds more and more hate...

There are a couple of reasons such non-gay battlesuit, white age-2 normal, double bullet, super pilot, etc. Wish 2nd arc was longer so happy about this new age project. The 3rd arc was good for me as well due to the bad-assery of captain ash and the dark hound. On a final note, all gundam is good to me except maybe v gundam.

  38. IMPO I believe Age was pretty decent for it being a series split into 3 seasons the U.E enemy suits were amazing and I'm still hoping the Gafran and few others make it as MG kits same as a few of the mass produced units from the Fed side, with that said Age unknown soldiers has the capability of becoming a solid age side story (a la seed astray msv type) with even more future Gunpla kits made from them.
Now for gundam Unicorn most of both units from both factions are incredible as they are also being produced as gunplas which also benefits Bandai from it .so why do people have to be criticsising sunrise/bandai for the way their stories developed
People should be grateful that we are still getting amazing mecha series n designs for the past 30+ years with many video game based stories n titles available to exploit, this is why Bandai/Sunrise are being open minded to ask the public what would they like to see in their next series (rather than rehashing/remaking older series) like the original Gundam being re made with the visuals of Unicorn for this generation of fans to enjoy n understand

    1. Also keep in mind what western fans want in Gundam is completely different to what Japanese fans want. I recall from an interview that Age was supposed to recapture the popularity of Seed/Destiny. Obviously that didn't work but it reveals the type of thinking going on behind the scenes.

  39. I liked so much Gundam AGE.

But unfortunaly, the 2nd generation was the worse, and Asemu was the worse protagonist(mimed and boring teenager).

Whatever, I think this especial will be a good thing, if they don't Asemu so boring and mimed like in the TV anime.

  40. If they make Age a self contained 2 hour movie with Gen 3 cut out then I would say good on them. With a bit of adjustment to the ending of Gen 2 this could be perfectly decent Gundam show.

  41. You sure that's the Legillis R? That looks more like someone altered the colours of the Legilis in MS Paint to me >_>

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's basically what it is. Considering the zedas R was litterally a zedas with red parts here and there, I'm personally happy the entire ms is red at this point. The new weapon is nice too.

      Delete
  42. That's not Legillis R, it's just Legillis with new color scheme and new rifle, even the color distribution are exactly the same. It's obvious they're just planning to re-release a recolored Legillis.

  43. As if Zeheart needed any more Char tropes forced on his character... Anyway, I thought this was a compilation of 2nd gen. Legilis didn't appear until gen 3 so does that mean they're gonna rewrite the plot?

    1. not that it was much of a plot to begin with.

  44. Gundam Legillis R...

    Thoughts.

    1. Zeheart is now even more of a Char clone Age-ified.
    2. Bandai is likely going to make:

MG Age-2 Normal Special Forces --> Online Exclusive
    MG Legillis
MG Legillis R --> Online Exclusive

    1. An MG of a AGE suit that's not a Gundam?
That doesn't use the base frame from one of the 4 main Gundams? AGE 1, 2, 3 or FX?
Keep fantasizing. After the show didn't live up to their expectations, they burned the plans for the MG Gafran they had in production so hard, you could power the hate machine for AGE for a year.

We got the Double Bullet MG outta this and maybe a B Club kit of Swordia if the design is popular like the Razor. But Vagan suits in MG? No.

    4. Those 3 are highly unlikely given their size and the fact that they would require metal components to support the large size.

In other words, they would be severely cost prohibitive so making a PG of those would make more sense since within the PG range, Bandai can charge like $300+ for the kit.

    1. Maybe it goes from the second generation to after the final episode, when Zehard would come back from the dead and want to push an asteorid on the earth to make it not worthy of live ( like Char)

  47. I suspect that the reason why Legillis and Legillis R is in this is because this anime is supposed to be a review of the series from Asem's point of view/focus.

So maybe it will go through it all, and then the finale but show more of Asem's invovement as Bisidian like when he was in the Age-2 Normal Special Forces (like building that version), fighting like Sid, getting trashed, rebuilding into Darkhound through his finale against Zeheart...

And then I think the Legillis R is like a "Repair" version and either we get like a zombie Zeheart or like a clone of Zeheart piloting it to get his revenge on Asem; something along those lines. It would be interesting since I found the Zeheart X Asem rivalry to be the most well thought out part of the Age anime, but poorly executed and cut very short.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Legilis R is a custom unit for Zeheart built independently of the normal Legilis.

And do you honestly think a revenge clone or zombie (zombies in gundam? GTFO) of Zeheart is a well thought out idea? It just reeks of desperation to bring back Zeheart.
He dies in the final battle. Legilis R will most likely appear in a time before that battle.

TOTALLY GAY!!!! ok sry bout that, that red is ok, BUT NOT THE CHEST!!! TURN IT RED TOO DAMMIT!!!

    1. IMHO, Zeheart is not totally like Char.
      but :
      -Zeheart = Char + Gato.

-Zeheart = Char = wearing mask, red suit, red mobile suit (except: Legillis).
-Zeheart = Gato = white (or grey?) hair, piloting gundam (zeheart = Legillis, Gato = Physalis), love triangle (Gato-Nina-Kou, Asemu-Romary-Zeheart).

  50. Gundam Age gave me mix feelings. Specially having a thirteen/fourteen year old pilot fighting and killing other people and beating a eight year old pilot. Asemu Arc is my favorite out of the entire series, epsecially since he isn't some "X-Rounder". It was better off if it just Asemu being the main character of the entire series.

  61. UC ROCKS. why? Because it offers more realism than Age. Remember the 1st gen of AGE? How in the world can you change parts of the mecha body like a normal GUNPLA toy to work all of a sudden. No realism at all. While AGE is an enjoyable show in a sense(2nd gen, but a lil too rushed but 1st and 3rd gen sucks), the mecha construction was the worst SHIT i've ever seen.

Expecting Gundam to cater only to you and your misguided sense of nostalgia is just plain selfish to all the kids watching Gundam for the first time.
