  1. Ugh. Not another one of these...

I have never built any of the MG Unicorns that have been released so far, but I'm pretty certain they aren't under-gated. I have built several metallic coated kits, so I know that this shiny finish is going to be ruined the second the parts are separated from the plates, and it's not all that easy to replicate with paint. If it weren't for that problem, I would like these metallic painted kits more.

I think Bandai should start anticipating the eventual metallic coated versions and under-gate all future kits so that the nub marks won't be such a problem. Either that, or stop the metallic paintjobs altogether and start releasing more clear kits.

    1. I know its a HG kit but try the Delta Gundam, it may restore your faith in these special kits. Its fun to build, and the undergate tech implemented here minimizes nub marks that is our bane. Its also fun to build. The undergate tech though tends to make seamlines more visible...

    2. I have the MG Unicorn Titanium Finish version and while it does look amazing for the most part it does have a lot of black cut marks. And you just can't fix them without ruining the finish and making it look even worse...
The MG Sinanju Titanium Finish version is fine though. You don't really see the cut marks on that one and it looks totally amazing!

  2. Nub marks are obvious on darker colours according to my experience, wondering how they will appear on dark banshee. Anyone with expeience on Titanium Sinanju (darker shade of red) care to comment?

    1. yep, I have and built a titanium Sinanju. I tried my best covering the nubs, but all I did was destroy the whole paint of some parts. I ended up just cutting the nubs as cleanly as possible. Unfortunately, it looks better than touched up spots. I should've just got the normal kit and made it titanium myself.

  4. @anon 1:14 AM: My problem isn't necissarily with the metallic coating, but the fact that it is so often applied to kits that were not meant for it, and sold as "limited editions". HG Delta Gundam was under-gated because it was intended to be plated from the start. Most of these "limited edition" kits are not.

I have built the 20th Anniversary MG Zeta Gundam 1.0, a limited edition metallic 1/1700 EX Model Albion, and the combination metallic/clear versions of 1/144 EW "HG" Tallgeese III and Altron Gundam. None of the metallic kits I have were initially intended to be plated, and the nub marks on each of them are very visible, and as I said before, the finish is not exactly easy to replicate with paint, so covering up these nub marks can be pretty difficult, if not impossible.

    1. Ah, ok I see your point. Looks like you verified my fears of metallic coated kits as I was tempted with the Unicorn HG. Having the Delta as my only plated kit, I thought they were given the same treatment because they were supposedly "special". By the way I also had the 1/144 Altron and I never thought of the nub marks that way since I was new to gunpla. It didn't survive...

  6. for sinanju titanium: can we just use gundam marker(metallic red)GM16 on the nubs?
for the banshee titanium: can we just use gundam marker (black) on the nubs?

is it advisable to use gundam markers on nubs of titanium finishes? did you experienced this? thanx
