GPB-X80J Beginning J Gundam is a variant of the GPB-X80 Beginning Gundam featured in Model Suit Gunpla Builders Beginning J. It is piloted by Gunpla Meister Takeru Nekki. "J" means Japan.

Box Cover & Manual
Stickers
For those who do not plan to paint this model. You will need to apply the stickers to cover most of the red color areas.
Kit & Accessories
This kit comes with a host of accessories, quite impressive when compared to the usual HG gunpla offerings.
Design-wise, the GPB-X80J Beginning J Gundam is more focused on close-ranged combat alone. The overall performance exceeds the Beginning Gundam, but some modification make it more suit for adding external equipment. Its basic armaments remain the same, but is then outfitted with rounded I-Field Armor Plates and the new "Burning J Sword" Long Beam Sword.
The I-field-based propulsion system is a special system shaped as rounded-shape armor plates and act as an I-Field emitter. This give it exceptional high mobility and can deflect beam attacks.

Beam Vulcan
Rather than standard vulcan guns, Beginning Gundam has beam emitted in the shape of typical Gundam's V-fin antenae (in the actual model, this is clear orange piece) which is deactivated in order to make way for the vulcan shots.
"Burning J Sword" Long Beam Sword
The "Buring J Swords" are pretty light, and does not drag down the kit's backside.
Shield & Beam Rifle
- A standard shield used for blocking missles and beam weaponry. Stores 3 beam sabers.
- Standard Beam Rifle
Beam Sabers
Beginning J still retain three beam sabers stored in its shield. They can be used in a claw-like fashion, holding three sabers in one hand. When used against one hand-held beam saber, it was shown to be able destroy a mobile suit in a single slash, showing how effective it is against an ordinary hand-held beam saber.
Alternate Head & Chest Armor
The kit comes with an alternate head and chest armor.
Final Thoughts:
The HG 1/144 GPB-X80J Beginning J Gundam is a pretty cool gunpla kit from the Gunpla Builder Beginning G Series.  The neat thing about this kit are the number of accessories that it includes.  I also like the shoulder joints where it allow the arms to extend outward a bit more than the older HG kits.  I was a bit disappointed about areas on the kit where they could've easily mold parts that doesn't show too much seam lines (Eg. fore arm), those seam lines are horrendous to look at.
But overall, not a bad kit and again I was quite impressed with amount of accessories that it comes with.

  1. Wow! Didn't know about J's history, his specs makes him really awesome, glad I bough it :). Sad this is going to be my first kit that I will really need to put some paint apps to make it look good... I am really awful at painting T-T

  2. I'm going to buy this and the Beginning D Gundam, kit-bash, customize and paint this in a tiger colour scheme. I think it will be one of the only exceptions when a mobile suit will look good in orange.
