  1. The shoulders of Sandrock look kind of small compared to the lineart, doesn't it? Wonder if it will come with its flight armour?

  2. I didn't notice that regarding the shoulder armor... In fact, the entire lineart seems a bit wide in comparison. I think it's an ever-so-slight recolor (by making them sharper) of the lineart that was spread around in the late-90s... Though maybe my eye if not a slightly-updated version (like with MG Wing ver. EW). Maybe Katoki had a minor touch of Okawara's giant shoulder designs in him back in '97 (though Okawara went up the wazoo with 'em), since that's when the "Early Types" (like Sandrock here) were redesigned. They look a little different compared to today (especially Wing Gundam).

Plus, nobody's perfect; Katoki's lineart for the wings in MG Wing Gundam ver. Ka's manual in '04 seem a bit big and much sharper than the MG itself. I've seen lineart of GFF Wing that had huge wings and barely-added-on-in-time details that slightly contrasted with the final product.

I doubt the Flight Armor will show. I know one of the upcoming books of custom Gunpla shows Sandrock in the flight armor, but that's not the MG, and the flight armor isn't being advertized with the MG. It's best chance of showing up would be as a add-on product, ala Unicorn Gundam's gatlings (which I believe was limited) or V Gundam's core booster. In fact, they can potentially milk Sandrock four times over if they went the V Gundam route (before recoloring it to Sandrock Kai/Custom).

  3. Or three times over before Sandrock Kai/Custom, rather. But that makes four in total, which was what I was thinking; V Gundam has itself, Core Booster, and V-Dash. Why not Sandrock, Flight Armor, Sandrock w/ Flight armor, and Sandrock Kai?

Well, at least if MG Sandrock sells, Bandai may start that line of thinking.

  5. yea I also think its shoulder armor is smaller, not as wide as previous 1/100 sandrock custom. --> http://www.1999.co.jp/itbig03/10031584a.jpg

a bit dissappointed though, because it's one of distinguishing feature for sandrock.

  6. Well, again, the lineart may seem wider. And while I don't mind them being bigger on the 1/100, why is large shoulder armor a distinguishing feature? Is it distinguishing just because they're large? Large Zaku II shoulder armor would stick out like a sore thumb, as proven in one or two of the display-only figures (I forgot the names).

Okawara may make them look decent in the lineart and the anime may make it rock good enough, but it seems a bit impractical if there's not much going for the shoulder armor (beyond the self-described feature of protecting shoulder joints). What Okawara does for shoulder armor is including extra weapons or large verniers, whereas Katoki's here might not have much of either.

I personally don't take off points for MG Sandrock having smaller shoulder armor; they still look to be a distinguishing feature. And while I've always liked Katoki's artwork and will still look at his Wing ones on occasion, that comparison between the prototype model and lineart is very telling. Everyone may see the larger shoulder armor in the lineart, but what about the larger feet? The legs look a bit wider in the lineart, too.

And lineart-to-model isn't always translated accurately. Sometimes, they're revised to look better (such as Okawara's Wing design), but this one hardly needed any, and it's shown here. I'm personally glad it looks a bit slimmer and therefore sleeker, even with the shoulder armor at it's size.

  7. @Siroh32

I think larger shoulder on old sandrock custom resembles more wing-like feather. But perhaps it's just me, people might have different idea & taste.

Didn't mean mg sandrock is bad though. From current look I still think its overall proportion is good. And weaponry is ok too.
Need to wait until it's released to give some more fair judgement.
