LATEST INFO FROM GUNDAM.INFO!

The new TV series "Mobile Suit Gundam AGE" starts in October 2011!

The new Gundam series has been announced as Mobile Suit Gundam AGE, a TV series set to air on TBS and MBS beginning this October.

The 14th Gundam TV series, Mobile Suit Gundam AGE is the first new Gundam since Mobile Suit Gundam 00 two years ago. Susumu Yamaguchi, director of the Sgt. Frog movies, will direct, Akihiro Hino will write the screenplay, Takuzo Nagano will draft the character designs and Michinori Chiba will adapt them for animation, and Kanetake Ebikawa, Jun'ya Ishigaki, and Kenji Teraoka will design the mecha. Level-5 is cooperating in the animation production. Namco Bandai group also announced a broad range of associated services and products for the new franchise, including models, toys, digital card games, entertainment software, and home video.

■ A tale which spans three generations!
Mobile Suit Gundam AGE takes place in the A.G. (Advanced Generation) era. As part of the resistance against UE (Unknown Enemy,) a mysterious for which attacks suddenly, the hero Flit Asuno uses data from the "AGE Device" given to him by his mother to develop the new mobile suit "Gundam" which is capable of evolving through battle using the "AGE System". As the story progresses, focus shifts first to Flit's son Asem Asuno, then to his son Kio Asuno, telling the tale of a family through three generations.

According to Sunrise Managing Director Yasuo Miyakawa, this series's theme will be "three generations". A first for Gundam, the hero will mature, have children, and the story will follow his son and then his grandson. Both adults and children will be able to enjoy this century-spanning epic story illustrating the protagonists' maturation and the inevitable differences between generations.

The AGE System allows a suit to evolve itself through combat. Can the boys' Gundam use this power to save their world? Now, an epic tale of Gundam across three generations begins!

 Story
Gundam AGE is set in the space age, several hundred years after the colonization of space began. The wars over domination of the Earth Sphere have ceased, and humanity settled into an era of peace. However, it was soon shattered by the sudden assault of a mysterious foe...

A.G. 101 (Advanced Generation)
The mysterious foe UE (Unknown Enemy) suddenly appears, attacking and destroying the space colony "Angel". This tragedy and the loss of life are remembered as "The Day the Angel Fell". The UE continue their assault on the Earth Sphere, plunging humanity into an age of suffering.

A.G. 108
The fight between Earth Federation forces and the UE continues. A seven-year-old boy from the colony Orvan, Flit Asuno, loses his mother to a UE attack. Before she dies, she passes down to him the Asuno family heirloom—the "AGE Device" memory unit. Using plans hidden within this unit, he begins to develop the mobile suit "Gundam", humanity's last hope.

A.G. 115
Flit, now age 14, completes development of the Gundam, now fitted with the "AGE System" which allows automatic evolution of the suit. He enters the fight against the UE who killed his mother.

A variety of goods and services to tie up with the TV airing!
Namco Bandai group also announced a broad range of associated services and products for Mobile Suit Gundam AGE. Most notable among these is the new Gage-ing lineup, Gundam's first model-toy crossover line.

The new Gunpla grade AG (Advanced Grade) and the new Gundam figure line BG (Gage-ing Builder) carry "Gage-ing Chip" circuitry which, when scanned by the Gage-ing Link system, allow models and figures alike to compete on the same field. Using devices like the free-play Gage-ing Battle Base kiosk, planned for installation at hobby shops, there will be more and more ways to play.

Namco Bandai games also plans entertainment software, and Bandai Visual will release home video titles.

● Model kits

▲ AG 1/144 Gundam AGE-1 Normal / Titus / Spallow
630 yen each / Available beginning in October

A new line of 1/144 scale (approx. 12.5cm) gunpla featuring suits from Gundam AGE. The larger body parts snap together like blocks, and absolutely no tools or adhesives are necessary to build the kits. These kits contain a Gage-ing chip, allowing play of a battle simulation game when scanned by the hobby shop Gage-ing Battle Base kiosk or Gage-ing Haro (sold separately).

 Toys

▲ GB (Gage-ing Builder) 1/100 Gundam AGE-1 Normal
2,940 yen / Available October

A 1/100 (19cm) painted, assembled figure. The figure has 15 points of articulation, and includes four Gage-ing Chips mounted in locations like the shoulders and torso, allowing play of a battle simulation game when scanned by the hobby shop Gage-ing Battle Base kiosk or Gage-ing Haro (sold separately)., just like the AG model line. Replicating the Gundam AGE's arm/leg swap system, enhancement parts called "G-Ware" (sold separately, priced from 1,260 yen, available beginning October) and arms and legs from future GB figures can be attached to recreate onscreen combinations or create your own original MS!

▲ Gundam Activation Device "AGE Device"
2,415 yen / Available October

The key the Asuno family uses to activate the Gundam, made into a toy! Plays character voices and sound effects, plus seven different pilot simulation games. It can also connect to the Gage-ing Haro and Gundam Battle Base to store player experience and level up just like the heroes of the show!

▲ Gage-ing Haro
5,985 yen / Available October

A toy shaped like the hero's partner robot Haro. Capable of "Gage-ing" (scanning) models and figures with Gage-ing Chips, it then displays the MS on its LCD and allows play of the same battle simulation game available on the Gage-ing Battle Base. By saving battle data from the Gage-ing Haro to the AGE Device, it is possible to level up.

▲ Free gaming kiosk "Gage-ing Battle Base"
Free play/Available October

A free-to-play standalone game intended for hobby shops, capable of "Gage-ing" (scanning) models and figures with Gage-ing Chips and then playing a battle simulation game featuring that suit. One to three AG models can be scanned to form a platoon, or one GB figure can be customized and powered up with different arms and legs. Changes in parts or platoon composition change power, leading to a fun game of building the strongest squad or suit!

In addition, experience earned playing the Gundam Battle Base can be stored and used to level up an AGE Device. By connecting such an AGE Device to the Gundam Battle Base or Gage-ing Haro, the player's suits evolve stronger and stronger!

The Gundam Battle Base is planned for installation at toy stores, department stores, discounters, and model shops nationwide.

 Model kits

▲ HG 1/144 Gundam AGE-1 Normal
1,260 yen/Available late September

A 1/144 scale model of the main character's mobile suit. By using different-colored plastic parts, the coloring from the show is recreated without paint. With 41 points of articulation, poses from the show can be recreated faithfully. Along with continuing HG releases, MG and Mega Size kits are also planned.

 Digital Card Game

▲ Gundam Try-Age
1 play 100 yen/Set 0 late July, set 1 early October

A card game using a flat-panel reader. By placing MS and pilot cards on the reader, they appear on the monitor. The player then moves the cards to direct their attacks. Set 1, scheduled for early October, focuses on Mobile Suit Gundam AGE. Cabinets will be available at toy stores, major retailers, and arcades.

I hope to live up to everyone's expectations for the animation and detailed setting while maintaining a pleasant atmosphere. Not focusing on small quibbles, but a festive, enjoyable feeling. I hope everyone supports that kind of enjoyable Mobile Suit Gundam AGE."
(Mobile Suit Gundam AGE Director Susumu Yamaguchi)

"As a Gundam fan since I was a child, I'm honored to take such a crucial role in developing a new Gundam project. Like the director, I'd like to produce an enjoyable Gundam, but I also aim to appeal to not only Gundam fans but the parents who haven't watched Gundam lately and the children who have never watched. The title Mobile Suit Gundam AGE refers to our desire to create a new age of Gundam."

New official info & images:
Is been several hundred years since mankind had migrated into space, living inside space colonies. Wars on earth had long ended, and the world seems to be in a peaceful era.  But this peace is about to crumble.
A.G. (Advanced Generation) Year 101
An UE (Unknown Enemy) suddently appears, they attack and destroyed the space colonly [Angel].  This disaster is known as the 'Day of the Fallen Angel', and the peace on earth was replaced with war & despairs.
AG Year 108
As the war with UE rages on, the once peaceful space colony [Ovan] was invaded by these unknown enemies.  Frit Asuno (7 yrs old boy) lives on this colony with his mother.  When the aliens invaded, his mother was killed.  Before she die, she uploaded her memory onto the AGE Device and gave it to her son.  And with this device, Frit will be able to pilot the ancient mobile suit Gundam.
A.G. Year 115
Frit is now 14 years old, living in the space colony [Nora], stationed in the Earth Federal Military Base [Arinsuton].  Seven years had passed since he inherited the Gundam, and through years of research, he was able to engineer & completes the revolutionary AGE system for the Gundam (Gundam AGE-1), which is able to self evolved thru combat experience.
The time had finally came when the UE attacks [Nora], and now the 14 yrs old Frit will fight them with the Gundam.. can he overcome such a formidable adversary?
Characters:
Frite (or Gullit) Asuno – Main character who developed the Mobile Suit Gundam AGE-1 equipped with the AGE SYSTEM.
Emily - Friend of Frite since the age of seven.
Groudeck – Earth Federation Forces Commander. Captain of the battleship Diva.
Millais – Earth Federation Forces Lieutenant Junior Grade. Comm chief of the battleship Diva.
Asem Asuno - The second main character and son of Frite. Inherits the Gundam and fights.
Kio Asuno - The third main character and grandchild of Frite. Inherits the Gundam passed down from generation to generation.
Earth Fedaral Forces Mobile Suits:
GUNDAM AGE-1 NORMAL [AGE-01]
Legendary savior, holder of the mobile suit name "Gundam" .  Developed through the data retrieved from the AGE device passed down from the Asuno family.  This mobile suit is perhaps the only way to fight the UE.
GUNDAM AGE-1 TITUS (AGE-1T)
Suggested by the AGE System.  A new body type design for Gundam AGE-1.  It is designed to be a martial arts battle unit to go against enemies with its great strength.
GUNDAM AGE-1 SPALLOW (AGE-1S)
Another new mobile suit design suggested by the AGE System.  It's specialty is speed just like a ninja, and able to dispatch enemies quickly.
GENOACE [RGE-B790]      *** This is the GM type for this series =) ***
Earth Federal Forces home grown mobile suit.  This was engineered after the emergence of the UE. It can be customized to fit various battle requirements.
UE (Unknown Enemy):
GAFRAN - an unknown enemy which suddenly appeared 14 years ago and had rampaged the world.  This dragon shaped enemy can transformed into humaniod form.
AGE System:
The AGE System had been engineer by the lineage of the Asuno family.  It researches the evolution of living beings by digitizing the mysteries surrounding it.  Frit took this and further developed it.  It collects battle data to customize itself.  it grows alongside the pilot and is customized and used exclusively by the pilot.  The only person who can use this system is the main character, Frit.
In order to mobilize the Gundam, the AGE Device (bloodline of Asuno Family) will be the key.
The AGE System + Mobile Suit + Frit = Gundam

AGE Device:
The memory unit stores the building blocks of the Gundam memory passed on by the Asuno lineage including the AGE System's basic engineering data.  The data is obtained throught the research of the Asuno Family, it is a book of family secrets.
Covers the 4 ultimate projects of Gundam AGE (Production of Manga, Hobby, Games & Cards)

PREVIOUS POSTINGS:
So this is the new Gundam series that we were all anticipating for the past couple of months?  Well, it sure looks like it.  And for those of us hoping for another UC era series... well, you will be disappointed.  Just looking at the images below, it certainly looks like this series is indeed aimed for a younger audience, and the mobile suit designs reminds me of the G Gundam series.
This new Gundam TV Series will be promoted at this year's Tokyo Toy Show 2011 (June 16th - 19th). I am sure some gunpla & toys will be making their appearance. =)
A note from Katsumi Kawaguchi-sensei regarding his thoughts on all the negative rants for the new Gundam series (From Katsumi Kawaguchi's facebook). Is quite a good read, and his points are well taken.

More info from AnimeNewsNetwork:
Level 5 to Help Create Gundam AGE Anime This Fall
Corocoro Comic to also run manga of story with 3 generations of main leads
The July issue of Shogakukan's Corocoro Comic magazine is announcing next Wednesday that the game developer Level 5 (Inazuma Eleven, Danbōru Senki) is working on all aspects of the new Gundam AGE anime for release this fall. In particular, Level 5 President Akihiro Hino is in charge of the story. There will also be a Gundam AGE manga running in the magazine.
The new series will have three generations of "father, child, and descendant" as the lead characters. The main characters pilot the Gundam unit to fight against an unknown attacking enemy (UE) and save Earth in a "One Hundred Year War" — an apparent homage to the One Year War of the first Gundam series.
The first main character is Furitto Asuno, who developed the Gundam AGE-1 mobile suit (humanoid mobile weapon) equipped with the AGE System (a self-adapting computer). The second main character is Asemu Asuno, Furitto's child. The third main character is Kio Asuno, Furitto's descendant who inherits the Gundam. The Gundam AGE-1 can be augmented as the Gundam AGE-1 Titus for more power, or as the Gundam AGE-1 Sparrow for more speed.
Other characters include Emily, Furitto's friend since he was 7. Guruudekku is a Commander in the Earth Federation Forces and the captain of the battleship Diva. Mireesu is a Lieutenant (junior grade) in the Federation Forces aboard the Diva.
Tied into the anime will be "four ultimate projects" in the works: manga, hobby (model kits and figures), games, and cards.

With the power to become strong while fighting, the unknown enemy “UE” is beaten back one by one. In order to protect mankind, the Gundam sallies forth!
CHARACTERS
Frite (or Gullit) Asuno – Main character who developed the Mobile Suit Gundam AGE-1 equipped with the AGE SYSTEM.
Asem Asuno - The second main character and son of Frite. Inherits the Gundam and fights.

GUNDAM AGE-1 NORMAL
GUNDAM AGE-1 SPARROW (Speed Type) – A cool blue unit is the highlight. The enemy is torn to shreds with the cutting edge of the sharp Sigl Blade.
GUNDAM AVE-1 TITUS (Power Type) - Though it doesn’t appear to carry weapons, with it’s unbelievable destructive power it crushes the enemy.
** Please not that the romanized names for the characters presented here are my take on them and may differ from other variations. They will suffice until official English names are available.

  6. @Richard...your statement is invalid because it's Yu-Gi-Oh with Gundam. This is actually a scenario where it has to be 100% kids in the show.

  7. I can hear it now... Like how fans reacted when they confirmed there will be aliens in the Gundam 00 Movie...

"Card games should be for Yu-Gi-Oh and Yu-Gi-Oh alone!"

  10. What the?! Is this really a CARD-GUNDAM game thing? Yu-Gi-Oh theme? Very disappointed on this... I'm expecting a greater series after Gundam 00 and the running Gundam Unicorn, but this?! Yeah its for the sake of the kids, BUT, this series is becoming LESS of a GUNDAM... this might kill the GUNDAM spirit... T_T

  11. I refuse to make any judgement based on these three pages alone. Anime should be judged by its episodes, not magazine previews.

  14. Scans from Coroco Comic have revealed images of the new lead Gundam and the title of the new Gundam anime that is coming this fall. The story will pretty much be about Earth fighting aliens and the Gundam will get passed down through 3 generations, father-son-grandson.

  15. Everyone needs to calm down about the card game stuff. This anime will have extras LIKE every anime usually does. People didn't stop watching and playing Pokemon when the card game came out. This isn't an anime designed to SELL cards alone, it's just additional material to go a long with it. Merchandising hasn't changed people, calm down.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The fact that this was revealed in CoroCoro says a lot. It is a children's magazine, for even younger audiences than something like Shonen Jump. They run things like Doraemon and adaptations of kids video games like Pokemon, Tamagotchi, Ratchet & Clank, etc.

This will almost certainly be a kids show, not just based on the character designs, but on where the info comes from. They would not market it this way if it was like other Gundam series.

I should have researched this more when they first said it would be associated with CoroCoro, then it wouldn't have been as much of a surprise. Still, this really sucks. The comparison to G Gundam is appropriate - this seems like it will be a huge departure in terms of tone and content. Very disappointed, but as long as they are still making things like Unicorn for the long-time fans, I can live with this.

    ReplyDelete
  17. WOW...
RX-78-ISH lower torso, 00-ish chest crystal(?), such a tiny v-fins, and that skinny-harmless look

guess they started to run out of idea for the new gundam design... sigh...

i wonder what will happen if this [AGE] gundam face with other gundam in their respective metaseries ? probably won't last long...

    ReplyDelete
  18. When the hell did Gundam become Digimon? What is this?! Sure Gundam Seed Destiny got bad but at least it kept a mature story. This... it's liking taking star wars and making a crappy kids cartoon...oh wait that's already happened. Seriously, who the HELL does sunrise think they're appealing to? I think the kids will continue to be more interested in Pokemon and stuff than Gundam.

  22. what i was hoping to see was not this kind of things...
Gundam is turing from a series that has deep thoughts in it, to a childish kind of style?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Why sunrise?! WHY!!!?? If you can't change the Gundam designs, at least make the pilots and crew more matured and not a bunch of 10 year olds and teens. As with everyone, I'm disappointed as to how Gundam is becoming into super robo kiddy wars. The essence of Gundam as a genuine real robot genre is now fading..

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh god... I was disappointed already about the Wii-U not being backwards compatible with Gamecube games, specifically for the sole purpose of playing Smash Bros Melee. And now this Child-ish-G-isd Gundam series? I REALLY REALLY HOPE that this is the past tense image of the series because we all know that the series cant cover all 3 of those kid's story. So it may look deceiving, but...idk...

ALSO WTF IS UP WITH THE Digimon-like devices? I truly hope that is simply a future cellphone and not a card system that upgrades the Gundam with armor and new abilities...

  25. First you ruin the SEED universe with craptastic SEED Destiny sequel, then you ruin 00s2 by giving us God Raiser, cranking up the over reliance of the magical fairy dust, and making the plot of 00s2 extremely white and black. Now you have LITTLE kids fucking saving the days?!?!

Gundam, I am disappointed with you (T_T) ...

I'd rather watch SEED all over again than watch this crap.
Seriously,I am VERY dissapointed. This thing doesn't even deserve the name "GUNDAM".

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't care anymore...

These last 2 "mainstream" Gundam series was full of disappointments and failure (I'm looking at YOU Destiny and 00s2). Don't even get me started with the 00 movie, one of the most cheeses shit I have ever laid my eyes upon.

I honestly wonder whey they still claims itself as a Real Robot *laugh* genre, when clearly with each new series it becomes more and more over-the-top and unrealistic.

Well good-bye Gundam, it was good while it lasted.

    ReplyDelete
  35. in brief... It looks like it's gonna be Sh!t

  36. only great news this week, first Bandai telling people that they do not want to continue the 1/100 scale lines and prefer to release something that cost 2000??? and now sunrise showing people they´re new awesome gundam serie made exclusive for non gundam fans, seriously, lest make a massive online petition too stop this new gundam serie too see the day light

  37. Yoshiyuki Tomino will cry tears of blood. He worked his ass out into making Gundam a series worthy for adults... BUT THIS *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ok, this is not precisely great, I actually was expecting more of a "serious" thing... but well, we still have unicorn... for now :s
I actually was expecting something G Gundam style, think of it:
SEED - Sort of Gundam remake
    SEED Destiny - Z Gundam
    00 - Wing-style
So the only "remake" missing was G. Anyways, I'm really dissapointed with this...

  42. Considering how much Bandai is catering towards sales, it isn't surprising, albeit still disappointing.
It would've been way better to be a certain pirate themed series called CROSS BONE Gundam. An almost shonen manga that is more realistic than ALL alternative universes combined. =P

I was like NOOOOOOOO... NOOOO!!!Whats with that design... He turns into some red, pudgy Devil-Gundam wannabe .Looking at the children's hairstyles reminds me of Digimon and Pokemon and every other kids show out there.Damn it, I'm frustrated and disappointed with where the Gundam franchise is going ... Gunpla Builders was a fresh and interesting idea but why did they have to come up with a whole new kiddies show of all things..
So far they don't know what the future of MG series will be... which made my decision concerning that matter easier- I`ll get a couple of Universal Century kits and afterwards put everything on hold until they come up with a good, balanced and well-thought show..
I`ll give G AGE a chance...let's hope its not that bad..

  58. Fans really will disprove of everything you do, won't they? There isn't ANYTHING in this stating CARD GAMES in the damned series!! Also, for those saying that Gundam is for ADULTS, you instantly forget Tomino's message from the first Gundam series that it's always about handing the reigns down to the younger generation. The show hasn't even aired yet, and you poeple are jumping all over it like you've seen 4 or 5 episodes!?
Personally, if what you guys are describing ends up true, this series IS for you!

  61. To all those people that are whining about CARD GAMES in Gundam just stop. In the post it says "Tied into the anime will be "four ultimate projects" in the works: manga, hobby (model kits and figures), GAMES, and CARDS." not CARD GAMES. Do you how much various merchandise there is for all of Gundam? They have collectible cards, gashapon, puzzles, video games and etc. Serious people Gundam is just a 24 min commercial to sell models.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'll probably give this series a watch, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Gundam 00 is still too epic, and Gundam Unicorn is also pretty damn awesome.

I just wish that Bandai would hurry up with the Master Grade 1/100 Exia Repair II.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Note that the mecha designer for this new series is by Jun Sonobe. Not Tomino-san. Given Japan current situation, some light-heart shows may be good for the younger generation. Some things to motivate the young ones among the gloomy atmosphere. Sadly, some fans mind still so narrow-minded and selfish.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hmmmnn OK let's give this a chance... there's still time that this will change and will get some improvement...

    ReplyDelete
  65. I dont know why this happened but I'll appreciate newer designs to build.

I'll give it a chance but I so prefer something a bit more like Unicorn. Something that brings a chill up my spine and gets me hooked.

    ReplyDelete
  67. No one has talk about the fact that Level-5 is doing the story for the anime that is a valid reason to maybe whine or praise about. Plus Level-5 makes video games so we might get a good anime video game adaption and I've played the Professor Layton series the games have great storyline and gameplay. I think we should all wait until June 13, 2011 for the official word from Bandai to confirm all this stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'LL JUST HAVE TO WATCH SOME RE-RUNS OR STREAMS OF THE OLD GUNDAM SERIES'....................

    ReplyDelete
  69. UGH well this sucks. i guess ill just have to look forwards to the rest of gundam unicorn and hope by the time it is finished they will release a good UC based gundam series. i just hope that this new series doesn't take up any more master grade releases, were loosing to many already!

    ReplyDelete
  70. The designs are pretty meh but Level 5 has done great work with the Professor Layton series so there is still hope.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Read some of you faggots' comments. Seriously how stupid are you? Before jumping into conclusions, do you really know who are the ones behind this production? No? This project is managed by Level 5 and NOT SUNRISE, if you really like to complain so much THEN BY ALL MEANS GO AND CHALLENGE SUNRISE YOURSELF. If you really think Bandai is not marketing the way you expected, THEN GO AND CHALLENGE BANDAI. Either you accept the fact, or STFU. As for Level 5, I hope they take this project seriously, in aspects of anime quality, storyline etc

    ReplyDelete
  72. Oh man, this is a bit disappointing. I'll obviously give it a try but first impressions don't suggest to me I'm the target demographic!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I just want Gundam Sentinel, Hathaway's Flash and Crossbone X Gundam anime. Goddamn it!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. To anyone into the Gundam franchise, this is definitely something we should all at least give a try; at least like 3 or so episodes.

But coming after the epic 00 series and the still running Unicorn series, I don't really have high hopes for this new series. The premise seems way too "G-Rated" (i.e. general audience) with not much violence of any sort at all.

Given Japan's recent incidents, it's probably why they're doing this. They're probably doing a light-hearted Gundam series to get younger children into the Gundam series, and a source for them to escape from the realities of all the troubles Japan has gone through and continues as the country rebuilds the damage done.

I mean kids need something to keep their minds occupied, especially if the life they knew was destroyed by the wrath of nature.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I can see they starting to run out of ideas..... why not 00 side story so we can all get the MG of 00 7sword or XN-raiser

    ReplyDelete
  76. This series doesn't look to my liking ,but it's worth a shot. I honestly hate it when Gundam gets like this when ever I mention Gundam people think of a kidish cartoon show and not the more mature series like Seed, Unicorn, and 08th MS Team.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Gundam, come back now to this world filled with the misery of a crappy new successor!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I think they should go do an anime version of Gundam 00's side stories... So we can get stuff like MG 00 7 Swords, XN Raiser, GN Sword IV, Astraea, Astraea Type F, etc... And they can do MG Kits of those as well.

Bandai is really running out of ideas for the Gundam franchise.

    ReplyDelete

  83. I'd rather not have those 00 manga side stories. Even by Gundam standards, all of them sucked monkey balls. The last decent Gundam manga was Gundam Astray.

I'm not surprised by this considering how disappointed I was with 00s2. Although I do understand why they might do this *hints at Japan's recent natural disaster*.

    ReplyDelete
  84. After the tsunami, I would have expected darker material to surface. After Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Godzilla was a hit because people could identify with the wrath of an overwhelming "disaster". Think GG's blog is a great place to be informed and inspire gundam and gunpla fans. Comments made by anonymous at 8:41 using F****t and STFU are immature and degrades the environment.

  88. maybe that gundam is an successor of sd gundam it was mad foe children not for people like us maybe they making a surprise

    ReplyDelete
  89. I don't have a problem with Sunrise making a Gundam series for CHILDREN, after all, they're a company and they must make some money.

What I dislike is the fact that they basically abandon the older fanbase who had give them lots of money over the years in merchandising and blu-ray / dvd-sales. In other words, it's not enough to get two ovas a year of the excellent Unicorn, they should at least release a series for young adults like 00 or Seed ALONG with this kiddy series.

But I guess the temptation of jumping the inazuma eleven train was too much.

Oh well, guess I'll stick to Unicorn and Break Blade.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Well I'll probably watch it. It feels silly getting all pissy about some promo images. Hey, at the very least it'll probably be better than Seed was.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Rick James' GhostJune 9, 2011 at 4:21 PM

WELL... the one saving grace here is that when I first saw the promo images for 00, I thought it would be super kiddy and stupid, and I didn't like the mecha designs for 00 at the time either. So my point is, we could all be wrong about this, just as I was wrong about (at least S1) of Gundam 00.

    ReplyDelete
  92. This, I believe, is what the internet will look like if we have it before the broadcast of G-Gundam back in the mid 90's

    ReplyDelete
  93. I was dissapointed after the character design pages loaded. Now we have ten-year-olds piloting Gundams? Obviously the Gundam's AGE OS will be the macguffin machine and likely help the pilot every episode. I don't think I'll be able to stand a 50-episode series of this...
    Where is the manliness? Where?!

    ReplyDelete
  94. After reading some of the 'intelligent' comments, i think i understand the reason this series was created. :)

    ReplyDelete
  95. All the while gundam is about 'kids' plioting mobile suits and save the day. So what's wrong with 'young pliots'? I think nobody have qualms about 'Dendoh', 'Zambot 3', 'Gaint Robo'. All of them young pliots manning super robots and save the day.

The more you all whine about 'sunrise' shows how 'long' you have been a fan. The studio is just involved in putting someone's work to animation that's all. So who is giving the BIG approval => Bandai.

Do a check at 'animenewsnetwork' for the studio and designers involved in the show. Jun 13 should have PV so wait till tend then bitch about it.

  100. Ooh, seems some info have been updated.. ^^

"...the Gundam grows with the “AGE SYSTEM”. It’s form seems to change with growth from experience.."

Hmm... I'm not sure if the one that evolve is its computer AI system, or its physical form, or both..
I guess if physical form change, it will utilize nano machines..

Would be cool if this "AGE" gundam can transform to all previous gundam.. he eh..
Just like recent trends in tokusatsu.. :D

But I think if Bandai don't want to lose current gundam fanbase, that's the only way..
This "AGE System" must able to transform Age-1 Gundam to Beargguy.. ^_^ .. err.. I mean RX-78-2.. :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  104. Sorry but, "At least is not a pirates themed Gundam series. =)" I strongly have to disagree here and say that a Crossbone series would be infinitely better than what Bandai/Sunrise is planning with this garbage. Digimon meets Medabots meets Gundam = Epic Fail. I never thought I would be alive to see the day Gundam died but low and behold here I am typing. Rest in peace Gundam, you were the best friend a fan could have, now your sould is lost forever.

    ReplyDelete
  105. It's really annoying how people are acting like such crybabies over this. This series makes perfect sense right now for Japan. With everything that has been going on there, it's only natural to focus on something more "upbeat" and light. Plus you already have 2 recent "teen" shows with more mature themes in 00 and Unicorn, no need of a 3rd in a row.. and as for kids Driving Gundams, you have Victory, Seed, Wing and X to compare,,, and G Gundam if you want to cry about it being "different". And what about Turn A Gundam? That still gets a ton of Hate around today, and yet it's just fine.

damn fanboys... can ruin anything. What is wrong in having a show to Introduce young new Viewers into the world of Gundam? Let them have a turn for god's sake!! Stop beign so bitchy and whinny about it people....

    ReplyDelete
  110. Hey, the design of the the gundam is not bad...

    ReplyDelete
  111. hmm....on second thought the model design is quite pleasing you know. I quite like the design of it. Looks futuristic but sill retaining some of RX78-2 looks on it. Who knows, maybe it's ok after all.

    ReplyDelete
  112. The design's like a hybrid of 0, rx-78 and beginning. So meh. Let's hope that the armored thing that hasn't been revealed would look awesome. But the fact that the physique of this gundam on the big page REMINDS ME OF NOBEL is bugging me to no end. Damn. Let's just stop hating and hope that the story would be nice as far as the serious fans are concerned.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Wow the fanart design is MUCH better than the official design...

    ReplyDelete
  114. The character design, especially the blue haired boy, is atrocious. The picture of him in his pilot suit looks like a toddler with blue hair, totally ridiculous looking and very alienating for existing fans of Gundam. I cannot fathom why Bandai would do this to their old fans, this is a terrible decision. If they wanted to attract 'younger viewers' and sell gunpla, make Gunpla Builders Beginning G a full series. Now this next 5 years will be a complete waste with this series, a COMPLETE WASTE. Very sad time for Gundam, especially when this series' model kits take over releases for more deserved model kits (ver 2.0s, UC Gundam, etc).

    ReplyDelete
  115. guess bandi is ditching the older generation of core gundam fans, opting for the new younger demographic.

  117. WTF THE THINKING? GIVE ME THE GUNDAM SENTINEL, HASSWAY FLASH AND CROSSBONE GUNDAM ANIME!!

    ReplyDelete
  118. This is why I never bother with this fandom. I love Gundam but you idiots bitch about nothing way to much.

SOME FUCKING FACTS FOR YOU PEOPLE.

-Pretty much every main Gundam pilot has been a kid or young teenager. There are very few exceptions. Off the top of my head we have Domon. Tomino's shows have always been about the effect war has on children and it has always been an important part of the franchise. It's rare for a Gundam to not deal with this, made by Tomino or not.

-The original Gundam was targeted to kids. Gundam has ALWAYS been targeted to kids. Get over it.

-The cardgame is NEVER mentioned to be a part of the show. Naruto has a cardgame in Japan, yet it doesn't feature them in the show now does it? Gundam has had card games in the past as well. They're popular and it makes sense that Bandai wants to launch one.

-Finally, The show has a great staff and an interesting premise most of you seem to have ignored...

    ReplyDelete
  119. But the original was a shonen (boys 10-18) anime while the upcoming Gundam AGE (since it will have a Coro Coro Comic manga) and the various SD Gundam series are kodomo anime (kids 10 and under). Big difference.
However, Coro Coro is aimed at ages 6 to 15, so AGE may have some teen-orientedness just like the original:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CoroCoro_Comic

    ReplyDelete
  120. Do you know there is free gundam stuff with pepsi now in Japan?

    ReplyDelete
  121. Looks very interesting. Everyone is arguing how it's for kids. I think it's a good thing. For one thing, Gundam may fail. Kids are exposed to much higher content delivery in North America. Japan maybe they'll be hooked on it. The animation quality will be up to par I think. But why do I want Gundam to fail you ask?
Well as a longtime fan of the Gundam series, and as with any other franchise, I just want Gundam to end, for them to stop making more models that I have to end up buying now :(.
It's like I just want a break. I know it doesn't make sense, but that's IMO. I don't want more people to like Gundam, and defame it and (I sound like a hipster) make it go mainstream. I want to keep it great, and unique. Take Transformers for example. When it went mainstream and into movies, they sort of ruined it. The first movie had barely any transformers in it. I know they're after money , and there is nothing I can ever do to stop them from making series. I've given up on trying to wish for a series I'd like to see. 00 didn't end up being what I wanted. I mean come on ELS? it was just mindless action (which I like) but as we progress through time I feel it's not having a dialogue with my mind. They have too many Gundam designs, I want to enjoy each one, see it in action, experience the conflict. But there is way too much designs to handle. Market is saturated with Gundam designs and other mechas. Everything is too fast paced. yes yes that's the nature of things I know. But sometimes you just want to hold on for a moment a little longer. It's like we barely enjoyed Exia or Dynames, or the Thrones, and they upgraded it. It's an expectation now to have Gundams upgraded, or overpowered. No logical progression for the character. I feel shows like Stargazer, focused on a crappier older Gundam (Noir) yet delivered more story. But even Stargazer was short lived, and quite sad, if you exclude the Manga epilogue.
A good model for a show is Unicorn, it delves deep into the story and the characterization. Yes Destroy mode is epic and overpowered. However, if I had a Gundam company that sells toys ("models") I would be spending all my money on making new series and don't give a damn about what the fans truly think. At this point for fans, anything they excrete will have it's own fanpage, deviantart fan drawings, following. And as always, we will feel powerless, and we're getting "pissed off" at remedial things, while we should be getting "pissed off" about actual things happening to our current world which appear very similar to what happened to Gundam worlds. So I say the hell with it. I will always voice my opinion, but I will definitely watch AGE, and I know they won't disappoint in delivering a good show with good animation, and amazing mecha, they're the Japs! They're pros. We will see how the show will look like. Assume it's like G, I'm fine with that.

  122. the only thing we have seen is 3 pages thats hardly anything to base the judgement of "GUNDAMS SOUL IS DEAD" who knows it might have the best story ever made, it might give really cool MobileSuits or it could be a dissaster but you cant tell by 3 pages, you have to watch atleast a couple of episodes.

  123. Wait..if we hate it so much then, why even watch it or buy it's merchandise?

  124. Wow, this is the most controversial gundam series i've ever know. Lot of people hate it before you even watch it. Go to hell with your first impression, there's gotta be a good about this series. Furthermore, I like the designs. Let us be more positive, like busterbeam. young kids wpuld never understands such epic story of a universe like UC. Let them watch something new, something fresh.

Don't know what the people complain about, for me, in the very subjective opinion : it is not That bad, meaning, some scenes of the PV may looks Seed-alike, the MS are weird, but GOOD in general, and Yes, it will " cost " a lot ( ex : imagine kids exchanging ID cards some thing like that... )

    God bless you

  136. I'm disappointed not in this new series, but by the character displayed by a lot of these so-called Gundam Fans. All the naysayers shout out "this isn't Gundam!" But then, what is Gundam to fans? There are a lot of interpretations. Gundam at least for me, always represented the positive spirit of humanity, something we should all strive towards.

Everyone has their favourites and hates and this series will be subject to it as well. From Amuro to Kira, to Setsuna and Banagher, they all embody a different part of the spirit of Gundam. This series will also add something new to the mix as with any other series. So if you really cared about Gundam, you would be willing to explore the many facets of the Gundam concept.

What does Gundam mean to you? Are we worthy... of being Gundams?

    ReplyDelete
  137. i'd rather watch this than ugly-old-idiot unicorn/uc.

  138. i dont want to say this isnt gundam..... but bayblade characters fighting aliens? those few screens where the dragons landed in the city looks extremely like macross. Now i got nothing against macross, but both series bank on 2 different concepts. Gundam had always been about wars between human, until 00 movie came around. I was hoping it was the last apparance of aliens in any gundam series, but it seems my joke with one of my fren came true.

they are allowed to make gundam into anything they want. but they cant stop ppl from saying it lost the feel of a gundam series.

This is very, very sad, the best hope is that this series is cancelled. 151. WTF...is this a joke?!

It's disappointing to see that the future of Gundam is SEED+Yugioh+Digimon+Beyblade+Macross. Hell, I'd rather take the Seed character designs a thousand times over this. I really hope it was not the 00 Movie that caused Gundam to have this Earth vs. Aliens trend because that movie was fucking ridiculous.

After the disasters in Japan, I was expecting either a darker series, something similar to Seed, and I can see elements of that here which is no surprise considering the director's past works. Or a full Gunpla Builders series, which looks like Bandai also made a reality in a way. But I can see why they're making a light-hearted kiddie series, to keep the kids in Japan in a feel-good mood and in high hopes for the future. But I feel like Sunrise and Bandai could've accomplished this with a Gunpla Builders series as well. And I think even though most want this show to be a massive failure, knowing Gundam, it'll still be a huge merchandise success regardless.

Besides the characters, I also find the main Gundam AGE mech design unappealing (but that fanart looks amazing), and that's one of the main reasons I decide to watch a mecha anime. The Titus and Spallow(Sparrow?) remind me of the Centaurus and Stratoforce Megazords respectively, not sure what they were called in Gingaman. Yeah, this is one Gundam series I won't bother watching. At least there's Unicorn to look forward to in the Fall...

  152. Oookeeyyy... Overflowed with lot of info in a short period.. ^^

Personally I didn't like the gundam design. Including the absence of v-fin, replaced by horn-like design.
But I know those are only initial forms, final form on later episodes might differs greatly, or even better.

Because it's targeted for kids, I didn't expect it to get serious for a couple first episodes.
Perhaps after 20 episodes or so it might get more and more interesting.

Long story short, for now, I have low expectations for this series. I won't hope too high.
But still, I'll watch the first episode, and I'll determine whether to keep watching based on first ep..

Oh and I like the design of Genoace. For me it's the first time average GM has better design than the Gundam, he eh..
Waiting for MG Genoace to come.. ^^

  153. Well my 7 year old going to love this. I least have Unicorn to watch. I hope Bandai has a deal with Cartoon Network to bring a dubbed version over here. I think it might be a huge hit with the kids over here. If not I'll just have my in-laws ship the toys from Japan to here :).

    ReplyDelete
  154. Why are some people correlating the new series taking a different direction with the catastrophes in Japan? Yes, distracting the children is a good idea, but I doubt that destroying a WORKING and SELLING formula for existing fans is needed to do that (whether a child who witnessed traumatic and life changing events can or wants to watch cheery anime, I will leave to you to decide). If they wanted distraction, there are many other non-gundam related animes they could have made. They are doing it for the money people. As my collage professor once said: "A company is NOT and will NERVER BE a charity organization". Ever heard of a company that donated anonymously? Even when donating, big companies do it for the expected returns in form of customer loyalty". And to add, I'm so with all of you who hate the new Gundam! I love you people, let's stick together through this trying period, like real GUNDAM fans! Let our disappointment and curses on the new gundam mend our wounds. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  159. im confused, so 3 main characters, right? the father, the son, and the grand child, so are we gonna be seeing 3 season of gundam age? or is the first pilot of gundam age going to have a son at the age 14? agh! im confused!

    ReplyDelete
  160. @Kitchenknives

It'll probably work like Baccano. Three stories running at once that all interconnect with one another.

So while we watch the son's story, it'll switch over to the grandfather, and so on. We'll get a few scenes of each every episode and some episodes will feature one segment more then the other.

At least that's what I assume. There's also the chance that we'll start with the father, and then watch him age and have a kid, who will age and have a kid. Kinda like Robotech. We start with Rick, then move onto Dana, and then to Scott. The stories are connected, but at the same time separate.

I'm cool with either personally. Either way the show seems fine so far. Most people are hating on it because of the merch push and the art style. I seriously haven't seen many people attacking the plot. I doubt most people even fucking read it.

  172. My guess would have to be that bandai's controlling the direction of this not sunrise as a whole. I've seen a lot of newer gundam series focusing on making the series flashy and up the model sales and this looks like another one, sadly. This series seems all childish and etc for the merchandise and profit, but HOPEFULLY the story will be good or decent.

I'll give it 1/3 or 1/2 into the series until I will say I hate it or like it. Some series aren't meant to be taken seriously on different levels.

    ReplyDelete
  173. In my world, "UC" doesn't stand for "UNICORN" =.=July 25, 2011 at 8:33 AM

Just as someone commented, Sunrise and Bandai are taking a similar strategic step as that of Lucasfilm on Star Wars - to win younger hearts.

Which is prefectly logical, seeing as the Gundam fanbase is aging, and to non-fans who don't understand, let's be honest, they associate EVERYTHING Gundam with kids.

So I say, let the kids into our world, and then let them trace the Gundam heritage themselves back to the original serials - they would have become adults by then.

However, as with many UC fans out there, I share the sentiment about the fading of Real Robots. I support the strategy of Gundam AGE, and at the same time I await the re-emergence of Real Robots so long as the Gundam franchise doesn't die.

P.S. Kudos to the team behind AGE, who probably KNEW what kind of flame they'll be subject to, but handled the project anyway.

And for all the rage over the disappearance of Real Robots, I'd say the design of AGE is rather simple and I took a liking to it (ONLY the normal mode of course)

    ReplyDelete
  174. Seeing how the 'newer' fans's reaction to this new anime...you are similarly retarded as well as compared to the older fans.

Older fans say no to non-UC series and demands Sunrise to selfishly fill up the gap of the Universal Century era. While assholes like you, who dont give a single respect to the 'ancestors' and continued flaming over UC...
these 2 generation gaps of netizens are seriously bunch of dumb asses rofl.

Also, those who declared the death of this franchise, I am looking forward to see your death too. Since you guys said your lives have no meaning already, why not just die? Dying is a way to save your soul, you do not have to rot in the mortal world, wasting your time to expect nothing you wanted from your favorite anime studio.

  178. Gundam Age is the throwback tribute to the original Gundam that I have been waiting for. Although I do enjoy the mass amounts of mobile battle metal scraps during the 1st episodes of 00 and seed/destiny, I can appreciate their focus on higher level character development. Clearly failures like Shinn Asuka and Setsuna showed their shallow "emo imma kill you." I have great hopes for Age, even though the start is a little slow.

On a better note, since I'm always worried how mindless romance will ruin any Gundam series, I'm glad Bandai gave us a big spoiler of who the mother is. I'm calling it right now, Emily Ammond is the mother, it should be pretty obvious, which means she is definitely not on the "I'm going to get killed" list. I'm really hoping she doesn't turn out like the previous female leads in all the 2000's Gundam Series. I'm not ready for another passive aggressive crying act put on by some pubescent little girl.

An integral part of the thing employing a gay sizegenetics is that you simply have picked that lifestyle for a reason, when you're going to relax and start an ideal sizegenetics you need to do it with someone that's pretty relating to the eyes. Generally, if you happen to start looking online for male gay masseuse, you could possibly be capable to look at their photos online and find the one that could be going to work the most suitable for you. Pick out a couple though so basically aren't disappointed generally if the one basically originally wanted isn't available, they have been booked or not work the day that you simply are looking for, so having options is always good.
