Yeah Happy Father's Day...by showing one of the worst father son relationships in all of Gundam... "Sorry son...I'm off to become a Super Space Pirate...food's in the fridge bye love ya!" ...seriously couldn't you pick a better one like Amuro and his father...ehhh...ummm...ok how about Kamile and his father...wait...no...Uso and his Father...no that would be bad as well...ummmm....don't even want to mention Bright and his spawn...nor do I want to mention Athrun and his crazy genocidal father....hmmm....a good father son relationship in Gundam...oh I got it how about Setsuna and his father that he personally killed...now wait...god no...ummm...on second thought...this probably was a good choice! The only other Father Son relationship that I can think of as being good in Gundam is Domon and his Father but most of the time he's in a flipping freezer...that and maybe Sei and his Father...yeah that probably is the best Father Son Relationship in Gundam...for the entire one minute of time they share together on screen...lol...oh Gundam...
Is Asemu really an awesome dad? He left on a dangerous mission, was presumed dead when he was alive and well, and didn't even attempt to contact his son for 13 YEARS!
If Asemu tried to contact his family and the EF caught wind of his betrayal, there could be some serious consequences for his family. Still, at least he cared enough to eventually come back to his family. That's more than I can say for most Fathers in Gundam's long history.
I just realized one damn thing after reading James Barr's post, and it is there is not even a fine father-son relationship Banagher Links just met his father and boom, his father is done for, and I've never seen Judau's parents. Flit and Asemu were not on bad terms in 2nd arc of AGE, but later, meh. Yep, there's no fine father-son relationship... Wait... Hold on...There's one. Kira the 2nd Jesus doesn't have bad relationship with his father, Haruma Yamato, even though he is not Kira's biological father.
Evidently his adopted father left his adopted mother. hence why she joined Kira to stay at Malchio's orphanage. then on top of that, kira's real dad took his unborn fetis from his real moms womb, slapped him into a machine, and made him into an ultimate being... but for his own pride and obsessive reasons, which ended up putting kira through a looooot of trouble. Soooo Kira has two bad fathers... or at least a bad father and a not good father.
Well, we don't see Haruma beyond him being concerned "oh shit, our kids just met, this wasn't supposed to happen" with Uzumi, so we have nothing to say. But since his wife was helping Kira/Lacus with the orphanage in Destiny, I guess Kira's cool with his parents, he was just puzzled about them making him a Coordinator until he learned the truth.
The presence of mentor figures such as Sleggar, Quattro, Bernie, Burning, Marbet, Sanders, Jamil, Mu, and Woolf usually makes up for the poor or non-existent parentage of Gundam characters. Unfortunately, most of them do not survive...
Welcome to gundam franchise, where most of father-son/daughter relationship didn't end in good way. If not ended being a jerk (Tem Rei, Franklin, Adenauer, Hangelg, Patrick), died for his son/daughter (Leslie, Uzumi, Cardias..... although he can be put on jerk side too because of flashback). For most miserable father, you get Setsuna's father (killed by his own son) and Bright (unknownly executed his own son, Hathaway by EFF's scheme). Maybe only Asem, Raizo and Takeshi who fortunate enough to spend rest of their life with their child, though for Takeshi he's most lucky because GBF setting.....
I like the picture! :D Both me and my son really enjoyed Gundam AGE!

ReplyDeleteUzumi BBQ'd himself for his foster daughter, does that count?
DeleteI would say Heero and his adoptive father is a very good one.
