Explain to me why you think Athrun is the main character? He had no character development outside what was recycled from Seed and spends the majority of the show whining about "I dunno what to do with my life" before deciding "oh yeah! I should go back to being an ass slave of Lacus & co inc.

ReplyDeleteShinn Asuka. Even SRW acknowledges his protagonist status. Unfortunately, Fukuda and Morosawa did a horrible decision.
DeleteIt seems that Sunrise sees Shinn as the lead, but Fukuda and Morosawa don't. I get the feeling that since Destiny was supposed to be a "next generation" Zeta Gundam, they wanted to have a new lead character, but Fukuda and Morosawa didn't begrudgingly went along with it. Which could explain why the character development is all over the place in that show, and why there doesn't seem to be much focus on who the main character is.

So they switch back to previous protagonist.
Personally, I prefer Shinn to be the main protagonist at the end. He can switch to be a traitor somewhere in the series. But director have different views..
Shinn was supposed to be a next generation Kamille, an unlikeable douche who became sympathetic after character development but I guess Sunrise/Fukuda got impatient.
DeleteThere is no question Shinn was supposed to be the main character of Destiny even though his character development was shamefully neutered. All the promotional material released before the show aired spotlights Shinn as the main character.
And don't believe this Athrun was the main character all along bullcrap. That's just Fukuda desperately trying to cover his own incompetent direction. And this is coming from someone who liked Seed.
Shinn and Kira are the main protagonists. Shinn the main and Kira the secondary making their point of view like Christina and Bernie in 0080 war in the pocket leaving Athrun the second most important character or deuteragonist.

ReplyDeleteI gotta feeling that Seed Destiny was plotted for the prologue of Seed movie. Most possibly the movie starts with the Seed Trio (Freedom+Justice+Destiny) as a team against something far greater than them.
