Picture quality not withstanding, some of these guys really look bad.
TBH, I'm not a fan of glossy paint, and especially hate metallic paint so that Nataku, Quebeley, etc. are not really my cup of tea. Special mention to that G-exes standing in what looks like puke. Actually, everything that stands is what looks like puke is not good in my book.
Astray RF looks like Megaman, not sure if intended but I don't like it either way. That dumptruck strike looks too big. TBH, the truck looks like a giant box.
I do like the colors on the Hazel customization though it's a little too busy. The blue strike is good, I like the simplicity, though the green one's color combination seems a little off.
And my favorite among these guys is that Reddish-Orange Jesta and what that Z-plus (but I really don't like so much details on kits).
Not really targeting modelers, I know none of them and I have no reason for attacking the people, I was just too lazy to mention details about every entry; and I though that would cause tl;dr. But as I said, I have a bias against the glossy and metallic ones.
But to be fair, here's my take on some other entries: Amphibious Zeon suits: good. Don't like the metallic color but I appreciate the how it's painted. Rusty Age: I don't like it, can't see the model underneath everything Glossy wing zero: Paint looks a little thick. And I don't like gloss Gray/Black/Orange Hazel like thing: A little too busy for my taste Modified Clanche: I actually don't think it's good or bad. Modified S Gundam with swords: Arms are a little too thin. Don't like the colors Zeta in Amuro Colors: It's simple but I kind of like it that way, maybe a better pose would be nice. Yellow Strike: Nice camouflage, honestly didn't notice the thing the first time I looked. Genoace black and white: I think that's an AG so nice paint job but panel lining needs some work (Though I admit I'm also not skilled in doing this step, that's why I usually skip it) Modified Zaku with Astray: a little busy but way better than it's partner Greenish Gray Jesta: I like the paint job, same as the Reddish Justice. Wing EW: Hate that face G-exes Jackedge: I think there's something wrong with the paint. Don't like it. Dynames: I do like the colors on this one. plain and simple.
That why I mentioned that I didn't like glossy and metallic stuff first but never mentioned that all things belonging to such a category were bad. I even mentioned that I like the Gogg and Zgok despite the finish. And yes, that Quebeley's paint job is well made . But some of those works are really bad. Especially with that G-exes. Even if you forget about the paint job for a second, you then realized it's standing on something that literally looks like shit.
Life is hard on the Phillipines. Getting a gundam because getting a job with good paying money is hard (A simple desk job is like 20 bucks per hour atleast 20 bucks per hour). I was lucky enough to own a computer with proper internet but I really had to move. It's a great country but only go there for other things than Gunpla.
This uses a revolving mirror gimmick. So what? What kind of thought are you trying to pull? I am not really that good at model kit building, but I can at least appreciate one. This one lacks the thought. That Genoace standing on baby poop looked better when compared to this one; coz at least it says "I'm standing on a pile of shit."
Yeah, and these too! https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/1376575_10200735243168117_1101980296_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/1384280_10200735233207868_172494285_n.jpg
The paint and the pla-plate customization are all off. I'll try to enumerate some of the things which I personally find unappealing
Issues with the paint jobs:
- Metallic gloss paint doesn't work in every model there is. It also doesn't give the gunpla that "special edition" feel to it like most metallic gloss special edition gunpla that Bandai released. - Most models are very monochromatic. not counting the grey coloration of the inner frames and joints, the models themselves lack distinctive coloration. not that monochromatic coloration is bad, it's just that this seems to be the case in most of the models. some kits which had a 3rd or 4th color in them in some parts, had it's color replaced with one of the 2 main colors of the gunpla. - Some gunpla which were simply repainted, lost some of its original color in some of its parts. Like the RG Justice there. It also lost its other shades of reddish pink which the original RG Justice had. - The color combinations of custom colored kits are horrible. Gray for major color with orange for the sides and yellow for the inner frame... I mean wth! It's not bad to use a custom color scheme but learn to make it so that it looks appealing. There's a reason why gundam is primarily White, Red, Blue and a bit of Yellow and I could probably go in detail about the topic of color, but I won't since that will stray out of topic. Do some research and study about what good color combinations there is. - Effects like weathering and especially battle scars are everywhere... it's like the model grazed thru every beam and bullet there is, much like how Reimu grazes thru bullets in Touhou
Issues with the use of pla-plates and customization:
- There's a massive use of plates in just one model alone. not bad when done correctly BUT it loses its balance and general simplistic feel it originally had. There's just way too many things going on with just on kit that it becomes an eyesore. - Heavily modified kits had used way too many parts from other gunpla and had even borrowed a lot of parts from other toys that aren't gunpla or that aren't even plamo in nature. Using way too many parts isn't practical on the budget aspect. - They all lack a theme. The same issue applies in with the kit's paint job. Most kits are all stuffed with cannons, missiles and launchers everywhere. It's like they just smacked every bit of weaponry and armor into the model that they can find in their armory. And no, stacking all weapons and armor into one kit isn't considered as a theme. The Big Bang Strike had a theme, but it still is horrible because of the paint job and the improper level of use of plates and it was still honestly a really bad theme too.
Issues with the backgrounds used:
- Foliage... Foliage everywhere. I see a mechanical installation with foliage in parts where it isn't even possible to grow at. Then there's one here that looks like it got puked at. - Hangar bay have way too many stuff in them and there's too many going on... as in way too much. Backgrounds should be simple and should not steal the appeal out from the kit but at the same time should fit the model that uses it. Seriously WWII tanks and gundam... or a Zeta Gundam with a GN Drive. Both cases are hilariously illogical.
Did you notice some of the faceplates? I mean seriously, why paint a Wing EW's face blue? It's like those initial pics of the Gale Strike that had everybody shouting "WTF!"
What happened here? It looks like a badly-made zombie apocalypse WTF theme all over the place. A far cry from the previous years' quality of builds. And what the heck is this? https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/1385777_672242232801109_1174631263_n.jpg
monster builds are not posted here yet. Stop making those bad comments. If you woulld comment just like that then show me your precious customized gunplas! -_-
Communication is the key here. Even if modeler/artist/painter have great artistic style, if audience can't understand it well, it will be a worthless creation.
Communicate with audience, explain them well, explain the vision, the process, I'm sure people can appreciate it even though it's not their taste.
Be reasonable with your criticism.. we are all in this hobby, atleast you can do is constructive criticism not just bullsh*t comments! this are blood, sweat and tears by my fellow Filipino hobbyist. If you think that this are all crap, i dare you to show your precious work to us and lets compare!
- FOR ALL YOU HATERS OUT THERE, MAYBE YOUR JUST AFRAID THAT WE FILIPINOS MAY OVER THROW YOU IN THE NEXT GBWC THAT'S WHY YOU ARE DEMORALIZING US.. BECAUSE FOR SOME REASONS WE ARE SOMEHOW MOVING ON TOP IN SOME COMPETITIONS, THAT WHY WE ARE A THREAT TO YOU.
Ugh, I hate it when people use the Filipinos vs Everyone else argument. People from other countries are not out to get us, they're not jealous or threatened and it would be stupid to think if we'd be demoralized by a few anonymous comments.
But here's the thing, a lot of pictures above suck, big time. We can't see whether some entries are under the Jr or Open category so we can only critique based on the pictures available. And some of the best works here also have issues (I assume they also took the most effort).
For example, in Open Entry 5, the Astray's face looks weird. We don't know if it's meant to look like an SD model with facial expressions but the Zaku in the same diorama suggests otherwise. Entry 10 had so much going on I'm no longer sure what it's supposed to be, especially at such a close angle. The Z-plus has so much details it looks messy up close and the Big Bang's so big I wouldn't notice the Strike if I see it the first time.
There are a few good simple entries but a lot in this set are downright ugly. And what on earth is that G-exes standing on?
Really? Really? Overthrow? Are you serious? This false sense of Filipino pride is sickening. The kits shown are all lackluster and I'm even surprised they were able to pick a winner from that mess. God, you Filipinos always go berserk when someone criticizes you, yet you people always seem to find fault in almost everyone. Wake up and smell the coffee Flips, the world doesn't revolve around you.
"FOR ALL YOU HATERS OUT THERE, MAYBE YOUR JUST AFRAID THAT WE FILIPINOS MAY OVER THROW YOU IN THE NEXT GBWC THAT'S WHY YOU ARE DEMORALIZING US.. BECAUSE FOR SOME REASONS WE ARE SOMEHOW MOVING ON TOP IN SOME COMPETITIONS, THAT WHY WE ARE A THREAT TO YOU."
Whaaat?! Man, this is embarrassing. I can't believe someone really thinks that Filipinos can really take on everyone. Too much pride you got there, bro. And really, "blood, sweat and tears"? Too much drama bro, stop watching primetime TV shows.
Stop this "Iba talaga ang Pinoy" mindset, it is getting embarrassing. Stop. Ugh!
I'm a Filipino and TBH: We really do go berserk if someone criticizes us, it's in our nature. But we just want to share our devotion to Gunpla. I believe that these entries aren't GBWC level, it's more like local competition level
Anon 2:52am, don't take these comments too seriously, because some of the works posted above aren't really great. One thing is, the pictures don't give any justice. They need better quality pictures in order to appreciate the detail. But don't be angry if our countrymen are criticized, it's part of the contest. We join these contests to be criticized, good or bad.
So don't take it seriously bro. Keep a level head, in this hobby it's not about who makes the better gunpla, but about who becomes happier with his or her own work.
Well "most" of the comments here which I believe are "mostly" correct. It's just that they "exaggerated it" that turned out to bashes. It seemed like that most of the participants went ALL OUT, because for the past few years, the trend is to go BIG, to cluster the parts and make a HUGE ONE that can trample all the other entries and be the EYE-CATCHER on the EVENT. But as they combine and combine all the parts, then cut and paste here and there, it seemed like that they "forgot" or "neglect" the most important thing in modelling and building. And that is the BASICS. This should be your foundation in this hobby. The proper cutting, beveling of the plates, sanding, etc. I believe that some of these were neglected. And when they are finished in putting all the parts, here comes the PAIN.... PAINTING... How can you paint if all were glued-on? Sure, you can do masking! But what about the time? It is not on your side bro, rains fell hard in the span of two weeks before the submission. So whenever the SUN is up, forget MASKING, let's go out to PAINT. Paint the whole thing! Full PSI! So you will be glad once you finish it. But in the end it looks like a MONO-BLOCK. Then there are paint mistakes, bleeding on the sides, grainy texture as if they have used salt technique. Nah! It doesn't matter if it is monochromatic. I can weather it! Dry brush here, dry brush there, dry brush everywhere. Put on the flames so it will look like that it was "shot" with a sword. So after all the weathering, oops! TIME IS UP! Let's submit. Then POOF! Welcome to GBWC.
If these will guys will or can learn the BASICS, beware of what these guys can do and can submit for GBWC.
Well, I for one have no problems with this. In fact, it could be used to promote crossover games like Gundam Breakers Gundam Extreme Vs or maybe even Gundam BF.
Ever heard of the new series, GUNDAM BUILD FIGHTERS, dumbass? Ever heard of gundam games where any mobile suits from different gundam series can fight, moron?
The diorama is bad admittedly but the models themselves aren't. If they were ever painted then the painting is good. plain, simple and most importantly clean. The posing is also good as it's very dynamic and catches the feel of being pushed down by the enemy.
Honestly this is a very nicely presented entry compared to the rest. The diorama doesn't steal the focus away from the gunpla themselves and the gunpla are easily recognizable both in who they are and what they're doing plus the theme of a crossover battle works. I'd say this is much better than almost everything I saw here.
The cliff could use some more detailing though... like falling rocks and a crater from where the point of impact was where the Gelgoog was pushed.
No! picture quality doesnt count... if the build is good, every inch of an angle you take a photo with it, will be good!! Thus really if you look at the othr countries gbwc entries.. these are all off.. and might hurt some of the other regulars who arent used to akwardly painted, sculpted, and bashed kits! IMHO im no builder myself, a metal build gundam would clearly trample these bashes of whatever... if this is a kit painting contest this is a meh... but building and making dioramas.. its a no.. for me..
well it seems i need to sit here and eat popcorn while reading this. popcorn mode! well it seems most of the masters here gave their point. well everyone has their own opinion. everyone should respect that. and for those who give their point please think first and much better if its in a nice way.
well given all the guys here who gave comment means they are the master of plastic and mentor of modifications. but have you ever thought that these guys join the event not for winning but just to enjoy the group, show what they got, share what they made and enjoy the hobby. winning is just an additional point but the learning and excitement is the whole point here. the fullfilment of seeing their creation displayed in the event. no one knows that some of them might be beginners and they only want to try.
remember there no rules in the event that telling the participant to do this and do that. its the matter of free expression. its a matter of how to interpret their concept in their hobby.
they are not doing this things to please us. nobody' s creation deserves to be bashed everyone must understand that. even the judges give respect to everyones creations. its the effort.
to end up. winners from the overall event usually came to this group. guys think first before we post. we are on the one hobby so let all of us must be respected.
How old are you kid? Enjoy the hobby ---BAH! Nobody in their right mind would spend lots of time and money for fun unless you're freakin' rich. Everyone joins in expecting to bag a place. And put this in your tiny brain kid, THERE IS NO POINTS/SCORE FOR EFFORT. If a submitted entry is ugly, people will see it and they will tell you that it is indeed ugly.
People who joined the competition aren't simply doing this for fun. As with what 8:51 said, people joined expecting to win. Plain and simple. To win in such a competition is bragging rights to what you're capable of as modeler and as an artist. As a modeler, a contestant is expected to follow not simply the rules of the contest but the methods in which they present their work. Novices and Professionals should know this and always remember this. No one enters a competition ill prepared.
For a modeler's point of view, factors like how you paint, what kind of paints you used, how much did you sand, how many plates and what kind of plates were used and so an so forth are the things that matter the most. In a sense these could be called the technical aspect of modelling. It's like building the house. You plan every aspect of it and apply it methodologically. You don't just build a house simply by taking whatever's available on the hardware store and start there.
For the artist's point of view, things like what color goes where, what color combinations go well with one another, what pose am I going to put it on, what design am I going to give this kit to give it my own touch of distinction and so on and so forth are the things which matter. This is like the ability to express your emotions and give it a physical form. It's the creative aspect and probably the most vague part of gunpla since it weighs heavily on the modeler's thoughts and emotions.
Gunpla maybe a simply hobby to you, but for me and some others it's not. Effort is a big thing true enough but it's not a criteria for judging and neither can effort be shown completely and in its truest form if the final outcome is something that looks like there wasn't thought put into it. I judge gunpla the same way I judge other forms of art like drawings and sculptures. And to that extent, I can have a rough idea as to what kind of people made these models, how they think and what were they thinking when they were doing these gunpla and why... Do remember that something beautiful can never be done so easily. And these... these gunpla are far from beautiful.
i wonder if you can win by modding any of MG kit and turn it into something like Metal Built Destiny Gundam styling... i mean they made it so exclusive that it needed to be metal build. surely bandai ppl must be really proud of it...
Oh I don't think he will listen to anyone's opinion, for he has a huge ego. i'm sure he will come up with stupid reasons on why he did what he did with his works and try make a fool out of you instead.
that guy's a total asshole. he thinks he's doing great, (thanks to kids who doesn't know anything about painting) now he feels like he knows everything. and his works? oh god they were really awful. the shitty finish of his works is really obvious, but these kids pretend not to see it. come on.
and I am never gonna enter on the GBWC again. I 'll let the newbies enjoy the fun. I already won before and my previous entries already have placed many times . My works were never looks like crap or anything that is too bad for the taste of everyone . MatX entries are extraordinary and that how he works and those are what he loves to do.
What can I say... people in the ph still needs to grow in terms of visual conceptualization and execution. What makes these even worse are the poses. I mean, c'mon. When you scratch build a kit, posing your kit is one of the most basic things you can do to make your kit look awesome, even without panel lines or details. Most of the entries have awkward poses -_-
GG hasn't updated the pictures of all the entries during the competition. Most of the pictures here are just the ones submitted during the first day of submission. Adding more damage is the way the pictures are taken, angles are all shitty. I too will agree that most of the kits posted here are posed badly.
PH works are better? Seriously? Come on now get real. And what do you have against SG guys? Trying to draw the flack to someone else? Why can't you just accept that most of the kits here are badly done. Trash like these get posted then you should expect people to criticize them.
congrats to the winners and participants of the event. I would have liked to participate myself, but I had to go on a business trip and couldn't finish my entry in time. what's up with all the rude comments? Anyone posting anonymously can talk sh!t, how about you all grow a pair and put your real name down? I dare everyone to criticize one of the builds above and then post a link to their own work. Put your gunpla where your mouth is people. a lot of you (myself included) didn't even see these things up close. seriously, if you think you can judge the entries and make comments based only on the pictures above, i'm sorry to say this but you are mentally challenged and have no right to reproduce. please. for the sake of humankind. the world needs less people like you.
WIth better quality photos it, two things woul happen. -Bad entries would look worse -Good entries would look better.
I've seen them up close and my god. Its a good thing the photos were not much of good quality and/or were shot behind glass. Seeing these entries had so many flaws. The lack of basic skill in modifications, the uneveness and overall bad painting, etc. There are only a number of kits there that arent just a bunch of clusterfucks but entries that have really good modding skills and painting without looking like some big pile of junk.
To say that someone is mentally challenge for judging pictures is pretty stupid. Bacause pictures already give an idea of how en entry will look. No matter what you say a lot of entries and actually really bad.
Its funny you know because the in other countries the Philippines gets the most hate especially here in GG. Cmon if a lot of people say entries are bad then most likely they are bad. BUT that doesny mean Filipinos make bad gunpla. Its just that the ones submitted look like they joined for the heck of joining.
I notice most of the rude comments (without explanations) are directed at the mirror Sinanju entry. Maybe the guy has haters.
And as for showing work, what is your obsession with that? People can only criticize your work if their own work is better than yours? Or do you just want a chance to criticize the person in revenge?
You only need eyes to know whether an entry is good or bad, the audience does not care for effort. I suggest you grow up and learn to appreciate criticism.
It's all about visual communication. You don't visually communicate to artist only, but to others as well. If you reason "show your works...", that's a really bad reasoning. It's the same ads or other visual media, if it visually sucks, it sucks. period.
The world actually needs less people like you, paulo. Too narrow minded, too constricted, too short sighted, unable to get out of the box. no wonder you can't exceed your limits.
Here's one of my few works on the internet: http://www.modelers-g.jp/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=11577
Have a field day.
I'll even get you started, the paint job sucks cause it doesn't exist, some nub marks cause I don't sand my stuff, I just use a knife to cut them off. If you even take time to read my introduction, there's even a story of how I thought of the concept.
Now, which ones are your builds so I can write something about one of them.
selling bootleg and joining contest are two different thing.
as for his work, to simply put, it is a 1/100 OOB build, the only difference that can make you win is on how you paint and how clean the work is (when compare to other). I only saw day 1 submission for that category and other are just straight paint. At least this one, has done good shading and made the look better.
How come nobody's commenting on the GBWC Malaysia blog? http://gundamguy.blogspot.com/2013/10/gunpla-builders-world-cup-gbwc-2013_13.html No love for Malaysians? you racist bastards! lol Anyway most of the comments here are just plain rude. Criticisms are welcome as long as it's done constructively. Why is it "worst"? have some validity and back up your statement. And maybe give some pointers on how it can be improved. For once, you might actually contribute something good.
Oh man... these Filipino modelers should learn how to accept and appreciate criticism/judgment from other modelers. If all these criticism or as you all called it as "rude comments" hurt your ego, then we are not sorry. C'mon... nakakahiya kasi.
Yes, they are very defensive indeed. They have to accept the fact that they are far behind, if you compare to other gbwc. not even close to any other countries. Disappointed. But, that doesn't mean they can't learn from this. I do appreciate the time and effort for some kits, the next time, I do hope they can do more next time - learning from criticisms, their journey while amking, conceptualizing, etc... I also know that there are a lot of "awol" modelers who have shown great works and can be compared with top modelers. I do hope they can participate next time. ^_^
Nah, modeling skills are different from an having artist's mind. You may have good hands but you can still make shitty work 'cause you didn't think things through.
GBWC Philippines is a fucking joke. Its not because of the entries, its because of the entries that win. Ok I can accept 1st placer being there even though its still sort of a mess but the 2nd-8th placers, the arrangement in particular is fucking bullshit. The judges here don't know jack shit about gunpla modeling. Its so obvious that they just pick shit they think is good but actually is shit because again, they don't know what the hell they are even looking at! The GBWC in this country has been all about who can put the most shit in their models and who can make the biggest. Probably 80-90% of the winners do. Painting skills don't mean anything in this competition. Neither does your basic modeling and scratch building skills.
Huge piles of trash will always win over small chunks of gold in this country's GBWC.
Yeah nice rebuttal anon 9:17. If you were an actual decent modeler you actually would feel the same way but with that kind of comment, you obviously arent and are probably make gunpla as shitty as the ones posted above.
I am curious, are the judges local? I imagined they would fly em from Japan.
And yes, the trend worldwide is to have giant chunks of plastic but we adopted it badly here, I mean look at the 2nd placer, I literally had to look for it legs the first time I saw it's pictures.
And the 3rd placer looks like it has a nice paint job but there's something off with those colors. And those arms look like they belong to a gundam from 00, not from S Gundam; they remind me of those G-Saviour units having small arms and big shoulders
im a filipino and i can say most of the build that are posted here are cluster fucked. i cant even understand the the concept of some of them. there are alot better builds shown in that competition and i have seen them. why not post the better ones.
And don't get angry if someone criticizes your work. There are enough aholes in the world, and even though an ahole criticizes your work, even if unfairly, you don't need to join them
I am quite amazed n amused by the long stretch of comments here: where u can throw a question to yourself, and throw back an answer to yourself; stuff your own mouth with crap, and throw it up again mixing with puke..... this ability to talk n argue with your own self, if transfer to gunpla, i think it will be a really fantastic piece of work u will have there. :D
Criticism, from simple Google definition: /ˈkritəˌsizəm/ noun, "the analysis and judgment of the merits and faults of a literary or artistic work.".From most of your comments/"criticism", due to the lack of substance, I feel they are more like insults, rants, sour-grapes-that-u-don't-have-a-chance-to-taste, sore loser syndrome (Huhu, i made it up); which, a modeler will too often ignore. I think is not too appropriate to do so neither.
Analysis and judgement, which the basic is to quantify the facts & findings, put in logic and reasoning. To complete it to the readers, one needs to, at least, briefly explain the logic behind the conclusion and opinion just made. Basically what I read above, which mostly lack of explanation, is as deep as telling your dog, to bark once means "Good", to bark twice means "Bad".
A modeler, who at least has the patience to finish a kit, the guts to submit it to be viewed by the public up close, and be judged by a judge prepared by the organizer, deserve more than this "barking" level of shallowness. At least give some supporting facts before u put down a verdict.
(In the rare case of a REAL modeler who is , maybe accidentally, being affected by any of the above non-substance, mislabeled as "Criticsm" hate post above, I would suggest: look at your kit, remember the joy u felt at that moment u first complete it, mesmerized in the good feeling at least for a good while in this wonderful Wednesday afternoon.)
Mr Anonymous, I dont think i know you because while I have quite some friends from all over the world including Philippines, I dont recall any first, middle, last, not even nickname that spells "Anonymous". Besides that, they are pretty warm n nice people who I believe lack the skill to throw up bitter words like the above. Anyway, thank you for such amusing self-conversation.
In addition, I realized another person, besides you, also posted a comment here (Paulo Gatchalian). For his comment, I am absolutely on your side! Despite the fact I dont think you have the ability, but I support that you have your right to reproduce!
Unfortunately, some of these works do not have redeeming factors other than the fact that the modelers had completed and submitted them.
A lot of these entries are trying to cash in on last year champion's style - putting lots of stuff on a model to look cool an heavy. IMO, the problem with our take on this is some of them don't look cohesive or well thought out. Big Bang Strike looks easy to shoot down, being able to only move in 2D, unlike FA Rezel that was supposed to be in space. As for the 2nd prize winner, the backpack and torso take away focus from the whole model so it actually starts looking like a mobile armor instead of an MS. I get that the 3rd Place winner's attempt is to make the EX-s looks skinny but IMO, it doesn't work well. There's also something about the color combination that I don't like but I can't really put my finger on it. And for those who went all out with the details, I actually prefer having a little less TBH. Everytime I look at the first place guy and the modified Zeta Plus, my eyes are diverted to all those little details instead of the whole picture.
Of course, these models things aren't all bad, they are well-made and I think the modelers have great skills; it's pretty obvious if you look the models. IMO, it's a Filipino trait to look too much at the details to a fault, and I believe this affects how we think up concepts and themes for Gunpla.
I don't want to be unfair to the other modelers here and just post my opinion on select pieces but that would take too much time and I'm too lazy to type a whole essay on this page.
And yes guys, we shouldn't feel bad if someone doesn't like our work, even when some comments hit below the belt. We should just learn from our mistakes and move on to making the next model.
Oh, criticisms have substance even though it looks like insults... or maybe your blinded as well? you know what I call losers? People who can not take criticisms. Because the next time around, you'll be doing the same shit and no improvements are seen. LOSER! hahahaha.
^ What is your obsession with comparing works? If only good artists can appreciate or criticize another artist's works, works of art will be worthless because there's so few of them.
A bunch of Ass Lurking Trolls debating on toys?? Common... This is suppose to be hobby, and everybody goes insane when the word competition intervenes... and Im LMAO.. Im a filipino and I think this is no big deal for me though im into Gunpla...
Many of those models have lots of unnecessary stuff and in some I can't barely recognize a mobile suit. I prefer models that are more realistic and minimal.
God, these are just plain awful... I had to scroll past so many of them.
ReplyDeletethis is not the true spirit of gunpla... no offend guys...
DeletePicture quality not withstanding, some of these guys really look bad.
ReplyDeleteTBH, I'm not a fan of glossy paint, and especially hate metallic paint so that Nataku, Quebeley, etc. are not really my cup of tea.
And my favorite among these guys is that Reddish-Orange Jesta and what that Z-plus (but I really don't like so much details on kits).
well fuck you then
DeleteHaha, someone can't take a little criticism
DeleteSeems like your opinion is a bit selective, eh?
DeleteTargetting certain modelers?
Not really targeting modelers, I know none of them and I have no reason for attacking the people, I was just too lazy to mention details about every entry; and I though that would cause tl;dr. But as I said, I have a bias against the glossy and metallic ones.
DeleteBut to be fair, here's my take on some other entries:
Amphibious Zeon suits: good. Don't like the metallic color but I appreciate the how it's painted.
Rusty Age: I don't like it, can't see the model underneath everything
Glossy wing zero: Paint looks a little thick. And I don't like gloss
Gray/Black/Orange Hazel like thing: A little too busy for my taste
Modified Clanche: I actually don't think it's good or bad.
Modified S Gundam with swords: Arms are a little too thin. Don't like the colors
Zeta in Amuro Colors: It's simple but I kind of like it that way, maybe a better pose would be nice.
Yellow Strike: Nice camouflage, honestly didn't notice the thing the first time I looked.
Genoace black and white: I think that's an AG so nice paint job but panel lining needs some work (Though I admit I'm also not skilled in doing this step, that's why I usually skip it)
Modified Zaku with Astray: a little busy but way better than it's partner
Greenish Gray Jesta: I like the paint job, same as the Reddish Justice.
Wing EW: Hate that face
G-exes Jackedge: I think there's something wrong with the paint. Don't like it.
Dynames: I do like the colors on this one. plain and simple.
Just because its not cup of your tea, doesnt mean its bad. I find Qubeley MK 2 is cool
DeleteThat why I mentioned that I didn't like glossy and metallic stuff first but never mentioned that all things belonging to such a category were bad. I even mentioned that I like the Gogg and Zgok despite the finish. And yes, that Quebeley's paint job is well made
Delete.
But some of those works are really bad. Especially with that G-exes. Even if you forget about the paint job for a second, you then realized it's standing on something that literally looks like shit.
Look at the face of that Astray RF
DeleteI don't consider myself a great modeler but these are too painful to watch.
ReplyDeleteLife is hard on the Phillipines. Getting a gundam because getting a job with good paying money is hard (A simple desk job is like 20 bucks per hour atleast 20 bucks per hour). I was lucky enough to own a computer with proper internet but I really had to move. It's a great country but only go there for other things than Gunpla.
Deletewhere's the sinanju x sinanju stein mirror
ReplyDeletethe judges threw it away. they thought it was trash.
DeleteWell, it was indeed trash.
DeleteAgain, goes to prove that a grand gimmick can't save a substandard overall finish.
Oh hay, someone remembers Shenlong :D
ReplyDeleteAlso, that Qubeley Mk.II's awfully pretty with that shine.
some of these dont have originality in them...some looked like a kid's failed science projects...ugh
ReplyDeleteWe'll fuck you! show your fucking work!
Deletedont cry..your mom is proud of your work
Deletetoo bad this entry is not included in the picture
ReplyDeletehttps://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=744567118892419&set=vb.100000174142705&type=2&theater
oh god that thing looks like cowshit. damn you for showing that to me.
DeletePlus points for being unique but all that rotating made my head hurt
DeleteA grand and expensive gimmick wont save an ugly ass overall finish. Copper-glazed finish. Yeah right.
Deleteof all of the participants.. this is the most stupid concept for diorama ever
Deletedoes this kind of crappy gimick win GBWC?
the size of the mirror is odd, the whole base is rotatating wtf! this deserve to be trashed! i would puke if this won a title
and most of all... the whole diorama is so dull.. its a rotating boring piece of trash
Okay, an objective assessment:
DeleteThis uses a revolving mirror gimmick. So what? What kind of thought are you trying to pull? I am not really that good at model kit building, but I can at least appreciate one. This one lacks the thought. That Genoace standing on baby poop looked better when compared to this one; coz at least it says "I'm standing on a pile of shit."
Yeah, and these too!

ANy pics of that blue Sinanju next to the strike?
DeleteThose are really good
DeleteHow come only the shit ones got posted here in gg?
Wow, that blue sinanju looks really great.
DeleteThe paint and the pla-plate customization are all off. I'll try to enumerate some of the things which I personally find unappealing
ReplyDeleteIssues with the paint jobs:
DeleteI noticed the Wing yes... others... no
Deleteand yes it was horrible too... >__<
What happened here? It looks like a badly-made zombie apocalypse WTF theme all over the place. A far cry from the previous years' quality of builds.
ReplyDeleteAnd what the heck is this?
https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/1385777_672242232801109_1174631263_n.jpg
I think its from junior category, 8 - 15yrs old guy make this.
Deletemonster builds are not posted here yet. Stop making those bad comments. If you woulld comment just like that then show me your precious customized gunplas! -_-
ReplyDeleteDon't need to be a painter to appreciate beautiful paintings. Can't stop making bad comments if the pics (and models themselves) are bad.
DeleteDon't make bad comments if your not a painter, because you dont know shit how hard to paint this kit!
DeleteErrr, you didn't get the analogy so I'll stop speaking to you now.
DeleteCommunication is the key here.
DeleteEven if modeler/artist/painter have great artistic style, if audience can't understand it well, it will be a worthless creation.
Communicate with audience, explain them well, explain the vision, the process, I'm sure people can appreciate it even though it's not their taste.
this is the GBWC PH 2013 Open Cat. Champion
ReplyDeletehttps://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/r270/1381813_10202117422287467_1273319098_n.jpg
Looks a little busy and heavy but I like it because it resembles a gespenst.
DeleteGG NEED TO POST THE OTHER ENTRIES. THESE WERE ONLY HALF OF THEM!
ReplyDeleteYes please. I'd love to see more of the blue sinanju
Deletea lot of the entries are like LEGOs
ReplyDeleteBe reasonable with your criticism.. we are all in this hobby, atleast you can do is constructive criticism not just bullsh*t comments! this are blood, sweat and tears by my fellow Filipino hobbyist. If you think that this are all crap, i dare you to show your precious work to us and lets compare!
ReplyDelete- FOR ALL YOU HATERS OUT THERE, MAYBE YOUR JUST AFRAID THAT WE FILIPINOS MAY OVER THROW YOU IN THE NEXT GBWC THAT'S WHY YOU ARE DEMORALIZING US.. BECAUSE FOR SOME REASONS WE ARE SOMEHOW MOVING ON TOP IN SOME COMPETITIONS, THAT WHY WE ARE A THREAT TO YOU.
would it surprise you to find out that some of these commenters are filipino?
DeleteUgh, I hate it when people use the Filipinos vs Everyone else argument.
DeletePeople from other countries are not out to get us, they're not jealous or threatened and it would be stupid to think if we'd be demoralized by a few anonymous comments.
And what on earth is that G-exes standing on?
im a filipino and all of these sucks lol! so shut your butthurt mouth.
DeleteReally? Really?
DeleteI'm a FiIlipino but I totally agree with Anon 8:36pm
DeleteALL THAT SCREAMING
Delete"FOR ALL YOU HATERS OUT THERE, MAYBE YOUR JUST AFRAID THAT WE FILIPINOS MAY OVER THROW YOU IN THE NEXT GBWC THAT'S WHY YOU ARE DEMORALIZING US.. BECAUSE FOR SOME REASONS WE ARE SOMEHOW MOVING ON TOP IN SOME COMPETITIONS, THAT WHY WE ARE A THREAT TO YOU."
DeleteWhaaat?!
Stop. Ugh!
I'm a Filipino and TBH:
DeleteWe really do go berserk if someone criticizes us, it's in our nature. But we just want to share our devotion to Gunpla.
I believe that these entries aren't GBWC level, it's more like local competition level
For all the entries during the GBWC2013 Philippines, best to check the pics at:

Anon 2:52am, don't take these comments too seriously, because some of the works posted above aren't really great. One thing is, the pictures don't give any justice. They need better quality pictures in order to appreciate the detail. But don't be angry if our countrymen are criticized, it's part of the contest. We join these contests to be criticized, good or bad.
ReplyDeleteSo don't take it seriously bro.
ReplyDeleteIf these will guys will or can learn the BASICS, beware of what these guys can do and can submit for GBWC.
Worst of all is Gundams from different universes in one diorama wtf..
ReplyDeletehttps://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/1375967_672242269467772_1955826704_n.jpg
Well, I for one have no problems with this. In fact, it could be used to promote crossover games like Gundam Breakers Gundam Extreme Vs or maybe even Gundam BF.
DeleteEver heard of the new series, GUNDAM BUILD FIGHTERS, dumbass? Ever heard of gundam games where any mobile suits from different gundam series can fight, moron?
DeleteThe diorama is bad admittedly but the models themselves aren't. If they were ever painted then the painting is good. plain, simple and most importantly clean. The posing is also good as it's very dynamic and catches the feel of being pushed down by the enemy.
DeleteHonestly this is a very nicely presented entry compared to the rest.
IMHO im no builder myself, a metal build gundam would clearly trample these bashes of whatever... if this is a kit painting contest this is a meh... but building and making dioramas.. its a no.. for me..
ReplyDeletewell it seems i need to sit here and eat popcorn while reading this. popcorn mode! well it seems most of the masters here gave their point. well everyone has their own opinion. everyone should respect that. and for those who give their point please think first and much better if its in a nice way.
ReplyDeletewell given all the guys here who gave comment means they are the master of plastic and mentor of modifications. but have you ever thought that these guys join the event not for winning but just to enjoy the group, show what they got, share what they made and enjoy the hobby. winning is just an additional point but the learning and excitement is the whole point here. the fullfilment of seeing their creation displayed in the event. no one knows that some of them might be beginners and they only want to try.
remember there no rules in the event that telling the participant to do this and do that. its the matter of free expression. its a matter of how to interpret their concept in their hobby.
they are not doing this things to please us. nobody' s creation deserves to be bashed everyone must understand that. even the judges give respect to everyones creations. its the effort.
to end up. winners from the overall event usually came to this group. guys think first before we post. we are on the one hobby so let all of us must be respected.
DeleteVery reasonable opinion. Kudos!
Deletelets get somethings straight...
Deletefirst off... joining the competition.
WHY DOESN'T GG POST ALL THE GODDAM FUCKING ENTRIES!!!??
ReplyDeletesimple. they just can't copy every pic from the source without asking permission and without their approval
Deletedoesn't take a genius to know that but I guess that tells us that you're probably ain't one.
Because they all probably suck.
DeleteHow to win GBWC:
ReplyDelete- Mount your gunpla with absurd amount of armaments and weaponery
- Add huge amount of random details
i wonder if you can win by modding any of MG kit and turn it into something like Metal Built Destiny Gundam styling... i mean they made it so exclusive that it needed to be metal build. surely bandai ppl must be really proud of it...
ReplyDeleteguys are you see RED G-EXES WITH DESTINY'S WING????
ReplyDeletethat RED G-EXES was standing on shit?? :)) (sorry for the modelers it just my opinion)
from all of GBWC contestant, i like TR-1 hazel with gigantic arm.....
it looks pretty cool work, i think
C'mon people. Think, read, before you click!
ReplyDelete~Tensa Zangetsu
the one who made the sinanju rotating mirror crap is that vanz analsazi (whatever)?
ReplyDeleteI believe that was the work of the plamo genius and the king of crapper glaze, matx.
DeleteHe should definitely place his sinanju horizontally on a stick then light up some fire underneath it while rotating the sinanju on a stick.
Oh I don't think he will listen to anyone's opinion, for he has a huge ego. i'm sure he will come up with stupid reasons on why he did what he did with his works and try make a fool out of you instead.
Deletethat guy's a total asshole. he thinks he's doing great, (thanks to kids who doesn't know anything about painting) now he feels like he knows everything. and his works? oh god they were really awful. the shitty finish of his works is really obvious, but these kids pretend not to see it. come on.
Deletenope ..it wasnt me LOL..
Deleteand I am never gonna enter on the GBWC again. I 'll let the newbies enjoy the fun. I already won before and my previous entries already have placed many times . My works were never looks like crap or anything that is too bad for the taste of everyone . MatX entries are extraordinary and that how he works and those are what he loves to do.
So Good luck on the Next GBWC.
What can I say... people in the ph still needs to grow in terms of visual conceptualization and execution. What makes these even worse are the poses. I mean, c'mon. When you scratch build a kit, posing your kit is one of the most basic things you can do to make your kit look awesome, even without panel lines or details. Most of the entries have awkward poses -_-
ReplyDeleteGG hasn't updated the pictures of all the entries during the competition. Most of the pictures here are just the ones submitted during the first day of submission. Adding more damage is the way the pictures are taken, angles are all shitty. I too will agree that most of the kits posted here are posed badly.
Deletethere's so much greeble in these that the main suit design somehow got lost...
ReplyDeleteWhy is it always the more bulkier it is, the better it is for people? I bet that can't even move if it ever gets animated or even in just Gunpla form
ReplyDeletetotally agree, "hey let's slab some more parts on it until it becomes horribly big/bulky and it would look so "mechanical", yep, it looks cool"
DeleteAnyone look at the 1st place winner and cream their jeans instantly?
ReplyDeleteNOPE!!!! That thing is terrible.
DeleteI'm sorry, what? "Cream their jeans"... Is this a new internet lingo?
DeleteErrr, I prefer the classic "Jizz In My Pants" it even comes with a song.
DeleteAre these clusterfucks shit build style are the trend right now ?
ReplyDeletePH works are better than those SG guys
ReplyDeleteNo, don't even try to start a cultural/racial flame war
DeletePH works are better? Seriously? Come on now get real. And what do you have against SG guys? Trying to draw the flack to someone else? Why can't you just accept that most of the kits here are badly done. Trash like these get posted then you should expect people to criticize them.
Deletecongrats to the winners and participants of the event.
ReplyDeleteWIth better quality photos it, two things woul happen.
Delete-Bad entries would look worse
-Good entries would look better.
DeleteAnd as for showing work, what is your obsession with that? People can only criticize your work if their own work is better than yours? Or do you just want a chance to criticize the person in revenge?
You only need eyes to know whether an entry is good or bad, the audience does not care for effort. I suggest you grow up and learn to appreciate criticism.
And btw, welcome to the internet.
It's all about visual communication. You don't visually communicate to artist only, but to others as well. If you reason "show your works...", that's a really bad reasoning. It's the same ads or other visual media, if it visually sucks, it sucks. period.
DeleteThe world actually needs less people like you, paulo. Too narrow minded, too constricted, too short sighted, unable to get out of the box. no wonder you can't exceed your limits.
DeleteHere's one of my few works on the internet: http://www.modelers-g.jp/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=11577
DeleteHave a field day.
Hey there are additional pics here:

...is one of many online sellers of bootleg kits.
Bandai should be ashamed of letting this guy win or even letting him join the contest in the first place.
He is a disgrace to the gunpla community and should be banned from joining future or any contest at all.
Are the judges too damn blind that he and his works are pieces of thrash?
pinoy ka brad? bakit mo alam? Hahahaha
Deleteso??
Deleteoo nga anu nmn kung nag bebenta ng bootleg?? anu kinalaman nun un b ung sinali nya ?? tama ka anon 10:29 at malamang tropa pa nya hahaha
Deleteselling bootleg and joining contest are two different thing.
Deleteas for his work, to simply put, it is a 1/100 OOB build, the only difference that can make you win is on how you paint and how clean the work is (when compare to other). I only saw day 1 submission for that category and other are just straight paint. At least this one, has done good shading and made the look better.
bitter siguro sa entry na yan.. baka natalo kasi xa..
DeleteTHANKS TO THIS I HAVE SEEN THE WORST CONCEPT OF DIORAMA FOR SINANJU......
ReplyDeletethat sinanju x sinanju was so darn stupid...
hahahaha...kids these days...lol...look at those comments...
ReplyDeleteHow come nobody's commenting on the GBWC Malaysia blog?
ReplyDeletehttp://gundamguy.blogspot.com/2013/10/gunpla-builders-world-cup-gbwc-2013_13.html
No love for Malaysians? you racist bastards! lol
Anyway most of the comments here are just plain rude. Criticisms are welcome as long as it's done constructively. Why is it "worst"? have some validity and back up your statement. And maybe give some pointers on how it can be improved. For once, you might actually contribute something good.
I'm a Filipino teenager. And i enterd GBWC 2013. And i habpve to say(No offense) Some of the entries don't really look good
ReplyDeleteOh man... these Filipino modelers should learn how to accept and appreciate criticism/judgment from other modelers. If all these criticism or as you all called it as "rude comments" hurt your ego, then we are not sorry. C'mon... nakakahiya kasi.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are very defensive indeed. ^_^
Delete^ I beg to disagree with the far behind part, since as you said, some of the best didn't or weren't able to participate.
DeleteBut to be honest, alot of entries by people who seem to have considerable skill are either uninspired or just plain clusterfucks.
if its a PLAIN CLUSTERFUCK then that person LACKS skill. Plain and simple.
DeleteNah, modeling skills are different from an having artist's mind.
DeleteYou may have good hands but you can still make shitty work 'cause you didn't think things through.
Waaaiiiit... GG, there's a lot of good looking entries but why only posted the crappy ones? I've seen some good entries posted in facebook.
ReplyDeleteGBWC Philippines is a fucking joke.
ReplyDeleteHuge piles of trash will always win over small chunks of gold in this country's GBWC.
hahahaha...another kid on tantrums... the comments are way more entertaining than the competition itself...hahahaha
DeleteYeah nice rebuttal anon 9:17. If you were an actual decent modeler you actually would feel the same way but with that kind of comment, you obviously arent and are probably make gunpla as shitty as the ones posted above.
DeleteI am curious, are the judges local? I imagined they would fly em from Japan.
DeleteAnd yes, the trend worldwide is to have giant chunks of plastic but we adopted it badly here, I mean look at the 2nd placer, I literally had to look for it legs the first time I saw it's pictures.
And the 3rd placer looks like it has a nice paint job but there's something off with those colors. And those arms look like they belong to a gundam from 00, not from S Gundam; they remind me of those G-Saviour units having small arms and big shoulders
@ Anon 3:19 i think there were three judges. 2 locals and one japanese
DeleteNon of which are veteran modelers who have the eyes to tell the difference between actual good kits and just random clusterfuvks with horid painting
Deleteim a filipino and i can say most of the build that are posted here are cluster fucked. i cant even understand the the concept of some of them. there are alot better builds shown in that competition and i have seen them. why not post the better ones.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't mind, could you please mention which entries you thought were better. ^_^

Just build Gunpla and have fun :)
ReplyDeleteAnd don't get angry if someone criticizes your work.
DeleteThere are enough aholes in the world, and even though an ahole criticizes your work, even if unfairly, you don't need to join them
Dear Mr Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI am quite amazed n amused by the long stretch of comments here: where u can throw a question to yourself, and throw back an answer to yourself; stuff your own mouth with crap, and throw it up again mixing with puke..... this ability to talk n argue with your own self, if transfer to gunpla, i think it will be a really fantastic piece of work u will have there.
Oh, yes, you are welcome!
Regards,
Rayloke
Not sure if plain sarcastic or plain stupid. Had a laugh so I don't really care which.
DeleteBTW, don't mess with me, I'm very wise and have lived thousands of years. Just try searching for my quotes online.
Unfortunately, some of these works do not have redeeming factors other than the fact that the modelers had completed and submitted them.
DeleteA lot of these entries are trying to cash in on last year champion's style - putting lots of stuff on a model to look cool an heavy.
LOSER! hahahaha.
DeleteThe 3rd placer looks like it holds 00 Seven Swords' large sword
ReplyDeleteNo shit sherlock!
DeleteThese entries suck. Im a Filipino. Ang sasagwa! Wala bang kasing lebel ni Angelo Guibone?
ReplyDeletewag mong icompare yung entries nila sa gawa ni Angelo Guibone..
Deleteung mga gawa mo icompare mo sa kits nila.. -_-
^ What is your obsession with comparing works? If only good artists can appreciate or criticize another artist's works, works of art will be worthless because there's so few of them.
Delete@ anon 7:11...cguro bitch yan nung modeler kaya kinokumpara...hahahahaha
DeleteA bunch of Ass Lurking Trolls debating on toys?? Common... This is suppose to be hobby, and everybody goes insane when the word competition intervenes... and Im LMAO.. Im a filipino and I think this is no big deal for me though im into Gunpla...
ReplyDeleteOh just shut up, you know nothing.
DeleteThey aren't the best looking models but you can tell the builders put a good bit of work into their entries and that's praiseworthy..
ReplyDeleteWOW! I just read all of the comments. Just enjoy and appreciate the hobby guys! wow!
ReplyDeleteMany of those models have lots of unnecessary stuff and in some I can't barely recognize a mobile suit. I prefer models that are more realistic and minimal.
ReplyDeleteSnap built gunpla with panel lines and nice top coat are far more better than many of these.
ReplyDeleteexactly my point..
DeleteWTF happened to that Kshatriya?
