Sunrise News - New Gundam Site Registered & Possible New Distribution Partners

Sunrise News - New Gundam Site Registered & Possible New Distribution Partners
Anime News Network has recently posted two quick stories about Sunrise, the company behind the various Gundam anime, as well as Tiger & Bunny and Valvrave.

First, Sunrise has registered a new website, gundam-bf.net. No other information has been revealed about this. Assuming it is a new Gundam project, is it a new anime, manga, game, OVA, or something else completely? Hopefully, more will come out about this soon.

Second, Sunrise is in talks with the distributors Sentai Filmworks and Funimation to distribute Bandai Entertainment titles. Sunrise is currently releasing Mobile Suit Gundam UC through Right Stuff and would like to use other distributors in a similar fashion. Will a deal like this lead to cheaper Gundam releases here in the US? Perhaps even previously unreleased content here as well?

  2. Probably another random domain acquisition like gundam movie.com

Age just ended so I don't expect another Gundam announcement at least till next year.

  3. Domain registrations don't always mean something. Sometimes companies register domains just to secure them. However, there a few things that point to this registration actually turning into something:

    1) Sunrise is the one that registered the domain, not Bandai. So it's likely not a game or similar merchandise. Sunrise generally registered the domains associated with anime series.

    2) While companies register domains often, this domain is very specific: it's not like Sunrise is trying to register gundama through gundamz or something generic like gundam-movie.net (which was registered by Sony). BF is a pretty specific name. Again, this doesn't always have to mean something; but it does stand out.

    3) The last four series (SEED, SEED D, 00, AGE) have been announced in June (or early July), with releases in October. Leaks generally come shortly before an official announcement. So if this were something, the timing would line up with recent releases.

    4) While it has only been two years since Gundam AGE started airing, Sunrise has released series close together like this in the past (namely ZZ, G, W, X, SEED D). While AGE was by no means a failure in Japan like many uninformed English-speaking fans believe (this is apparent by the Gunpla still selling and being made, along with the soon-to-be-released Memories of Eden coming out; series that fail don't generally get such treatment: V, X, and Turn A don't get a lot of Gunpla treatment, and generally don't get followups), it does seem like it was underwhelming when compared to it's predecessors (00, SEED D, and SEED), which were all very successful. This could lead to Sunrise wanting to get another series on the air.

  4. Think you'll find Gundam Age finished 8 months ago, not exactly just, and most gundam series have had their announcements in June/July.

  5. Thing is Gundam series are generally planned 2 years in advance (Destiny being the exception since it was rushed into production) and Sunrise appears to have their hands full atm with Unicorn, Age Memory of Eden, Valvrave and Code Geass Akito the Exiled.

Unless they have REALLY deep pockets and a spare production studio lying around I don't see how a Gundam series can happen this year. Then again I'm prepared to be wrong haha.

  6. well what ever it is I'm hopeful its something good. they Said funimation and Sentai, that practically confirms no more Ocean Group dubs (sentai might let Ocean Group dub doubtful & Funi not a chance in hell), if its related to some type anime/dubbing. Now if Funi or Sentai is doing something like Selling the older series (Gundam Wing for example) and putting them into box-sets then totally awesome, I'm not a big fan of Funimation how ever their prices for box-sets are very reasonable.

  7. Even though many Gundam series are spaced apart by several years, there are cases in the past where this isn't true: ZZ, G, W, X, and SEED D. So there are definitely times in the past where Sunrise has started a Gundam series with little to no time between releases. While I would generally say that we shouldn't expect another Gundam TV series for a while (or an OVA until Gundam UC is finished), this news could mean something. The time lines up just right for another release. If this is a new series being announced in June, then we'll likely see an October release (as we have for the last four TV series). In that case, it will have been two years since Gundam AGE started; one year since it ended.

Also, I'm sure that Memories of Eden is finishing production very soon seeing as it's being released in just a few months. This could open up room for Sunrise to take on the extra series, as Gundam-wise that only leaves Gundam UC being worked on (oh, and of course the SEED movie...right, guys?). Sunrise is a big studio and they have released several big shows simultaneously in the past before. Again, since SEED D, Sunrise has had a few years in between Gundam TV series. But that doesn't mean that they won't try to get Gundam on the air again in such a short time. In my opinion, it's much more likely that Gundam: The Origin will be an OVA (perhaps starting sometime after the conclusion of Gundam UC). So that does leave an opening for a TV spot.

Something else I found strange: the Twitter account @GundamBF is a "suspended" account. Not quite sure what that could mean: perhaps Sunrise is holding the name? Just another interesting tidbit.

    1. Adaptations of novels doesn't automatically mean a series will be good. Unicorn took enormous liberties with ep4 and that turned out a mess. Age's problem is they tried to cram a video game into an anime. What I want to see is an anime planned as an anime from the ground up and not rushed into production.

    2. I'm guessing those liberties were taken to avoid references to Islam, especially when they involve lots of Dakar being destroyed.

  11. Whereas before the Gundam BF website used to take you to a domain holding page (identical to that of www.gundam-age.com), the www.gundam-bf.net page now shows up as a blank HTML file.

  12. These tips to much helpful for party hope I am post for my friend The main purpose of the Name Approval Request Form is to reserve a name for your business use. Note that reserving a name, or even registering a business under that particular name, does not grant the business name any special protection. For instance, people in other provinces may register similar business names.
