  1. Maybe not mecha related but Gundam (any) has nothing on Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

    1. In SRW Z2, Ribbons Almark is in cahoots with Grace O' Connor. In their stage you fight the Vajra, A-Laws & Innovators.

SRW is known for having crossover voice acting. Ribbons has actual voiced one-lines for most of the other pilots in Gundam and even other mecha series. He even calls out to Zero(Lelouch) of Code Geass.

The best part is that Ribbons and Amuro have some lines just for each other.

  7. I got into the Muv Luv series since Gundam AGE failed to catch my attention unlike 00. I do like how Tactical Surface fighters share the names with real life planes, such as the American F-22 raptor, since in that universe fighter jets are rendered obsolete because of Laser class BETA, therefore TSFs are the universe equivalent, and are still classified as aircraft. Also, projecting images directly into the pilot's retina seems more practical than large screens inside the cockpit. It also shows that just because there's an alien invasion threatening mankind it doesn't mean humanity can put aside their differences for the common good. On the other hand, Gundam 00 got me into mecha anime, and the mecha designs, while less realistic, are a lot more awesome. Really, do I have to choose sides?

  9. Oh this one is totally easy and I'm pretty sure most people would know my answers. =D

    1. My favorite Gundam series has got to be Gundam 00. I would've said that it was Gundam Wing since that's the one that I started with when Wing aired on Toonami when it was actually good. However, Gundam 00 was just more relatable to real world scenarios where wars were fought for reasons that are plausible in today's society. On top of that, the whole thing with it being the first series to air in HD, the mecha designs, the crazy over the top fights, etc. You gotta admit that Gundam 00 is pretty damn epic.

    2. Aside from Gundam stuff, I really don't watch much mecha. I have seen a like Godannar, Gravion, Gravion Zwei, Escaflowne, Evangelion, etc. So in terms of non-Gundam mecha series, I would have to say that Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan is my favorite. I love the story, the mecha designs are amazing, and come on...GIGA! DRILL!! BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!! and who can forget the final form of Gurren Lagaan when it goes crazy mega ultra ZOGM HAXORZZZ size and uses a galaxy as like a boomerang.

    3. I can't really say between Gundam 00 and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan. Both are great for different reasons. I like how short and right to the point w/ action and epic 1 liners that Gurren Lagaan has, but Gundam 00's universe is just so good! I wish that Bandai would go back to doing some MG's for 00 (Exia R2, Exia R3, Qan[T] ELS, Qan[T] Full Saber just to name a few), but it would be interesting to see Bandai do MG's for Gurren Lagaan and all of it's forms. Imagine a 1/100 MG version of that final version of Gurren Lagaan..LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

    http://gurrenlagann.wikia.com/wiki/Super_Tengen_Toppa_Gurren_Lagann

Basically, the Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is 52.8 billion light years tall. Yea. I don't think any Gundam or other mecha would stand a chance against something that big..

    2. "I don't think any other mecha would stand a chance against something that big.."
f*ck yo 52.8 billion light years BS
TTGL or STTGL both got wreaked and it was Lagann in the anime and Simon in the Movie that took down the Anti-Spral

      also
Getter Emperor: can surpass Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Getter Emperor is constantly growing and no one can control it. Eventually, it would reach the point where it would assimilate all matter and energy in the universe.
kinda similar to the Spiral Nemesis

Ideon: no one wins because everything in the universe would be wiped out
Demonbane: idk heard some stuff of it bigger the universe
GaoGaiGar: the power of courage is infinite

sizes means crap if it couldnt do what its smaller form/pilot could do

  10. gundam vs transformers

I somewhat like transformers but it can't still make up to a par with gundam. why? whenever a transformer transforms, the person who's in there will be forced to get out of him unlike Gundam is not like that....... even in Voltes Five knows that....... because the mecha designers of gundam that transforms really knows how to think well; making the pilot stay in his mobile suit while it transforms to a mobile armor mode or uses its core block system to combine and transforms into a gundam itself like the RX-78-2 Gundam, ZZ Gundam, S Gundam, Victory Gundam and its successor the V2 Gundam, Impulse Gundam etc., yeah transformers are cool because they can talk and think of their own without being controlled by others but still, I love Gundam in anyway of everything because their designs are seem to be understandable even if there are some certain flaws of it......... and besides, where have you seen a mecha series that has a lot of other series besides gundam? Gundam has way to many of it and has different protagonist unlike others with different series STILL has the same protagonist and keeps repeating all over like Optimus Prime etc.,

    1. And think u r missing 1 vital point my friend. The genre of both series r actually abit different. Transformers r more of Super Robot while Gundam is Real Robot, so they don't work quite in the same way. And besides, Transformers r ALIEN ROBOT from another galaxy!

    2. Turn A Gundam was built with alien technology so it would still be an interesting match. Moonlight butterfly would reduce all Transformers into dust no matter how what super robot powers they have.

      Delete
    3. I really hate to get involved in this, but Turn A isn't really all that powerful compared to some transformers universes or even spicific characters, people tend to forget that moonlight butterfly isn't particularly quick, and can be limited by the pilot(for the first problem). Transformers don't have this problem, being they have no pilot, and are controlling their own body. The one thing that I will say is that Turn A is MUCH bigger than most transformers, being around the size of maybe the IDW version of Thunderwing (who's PRESENCE can cause catastrophic damage, and possible destruction of planets)and Overlord (any version)(Idw Overlords job had he taken it would have been to personally exterminate the entire population of planets that massive armies of decepticons trained to do the same thing couldn't, he refused because it was a WASTE of effort.). Power wise an autobot car or decepticon jet (outside some Starscreams)would NOT touch Turn A, specifically the gundam has regeneration nano machines, possibly non-cannon teleportation, optical camouflage, beam bending, moonlight butterfly (matter conversion only to silicon, seals itself away for a good wile) witch is really good in the context of its own universe, but against a character that can flatten or lengthen the xyz axis of an object or temporally loop the same hit infinitely forever and ever, or hit a being that can destroy multiple solar system size time/space locations at once, and kill it in ONE SHOT (didn't matter since megatron absorbs it afterward, gaining its powers) OOH or turn reality into a bad video game that you play with with an avatar of said mgatron.

I think I just went too super roboty...

    1. Turn A Gundam, 00 QANTA and God Gundam. Enough said.

    2. No Gundam would stand anubis or even jehuty. As stated in the games, the power of anubis alone is equivalent to the whole of the Earth forces. Anubis's Zero Shift alone would be enough to defeat any gundam. Any gundam, however powerfull it was, that would go up against Anubis or Jehuty would still have to actually be able to hit it. Both anubis and jehuty would just Zero Shift into any gundam before it could even shoot. As for the particular case of turn A's moonlight butterfly, an Orbital Frame's technology is very different from any gundam's technology. The frame is made of metatron, and there's no telling if that would be vulnerable to the moonlight butterfly. Point is, no gundam could compete against the power of jehuty's and anubis's teleport capabilities...

      Delete
    3. SomeOtherAnon I think your forgetting some very important information. 00 Qan[T] can Quantise (teleport) as much and as far as it wants. Anubis/Jehuty can actually be hit whilst using Zero Shift (as the final fight in ZOE2 shows) whilst 00 Qan[T] can't even be seen while it Quantises. On top of that 00 Qan[T] has it's GN Bits, Massive Gunsword and it's Trans-Am.

      Delete
    4. system concept Turn A is indestructible because it has nano machines that were basically spawned off DG cells, it can teleport shots into cockpits and has an I field generator. On top of that, its beam rifle is only 20% power. The pilot can teleport any sort of weapon e.g. missiles, nukes, etc through its missile silos.

Jehuty and Anubis are too much overpowered as Turn A is but the 3 mechas are from different universes and timelines. So this argument like all other robot VS ones are really pointless because there is no saying what the limits of human imagination can really conjure up.

  16. purely by standards of awesome mechs i'd say linebarrels is on par with gundam (the anime was shit though, the manga's way better)

  17. I'm really not sure I have a single favorite Gundam series, actually.
I like many of the different series I've seen for all different reasons.
But, for sake of the experiment, if I had to choose one series to stand as the one I like most, I would have to say G Gundam is my "favorite".
I love how it breaks the mold of what a Gundam show is "supposed" to be, and offers up two of the most bad-ass characters (Domon & Master Asia) to ever star in any Gundam series.
Although, there were quite a few moments that made me face-palm for their sheer obsurdity.

I haven't seen too many mech shows in general outside of the Gundam franchise, but among them, I'd have to say I like Code Geass the best.
Again, it takes the mech show idea in a very interesting direction and the story is full of brilliant twists and turns, the likes of which I've only seen in amazing shows like Death Note.

Of the two, I'm hesitant to declare a winner, but in weighing the pros and cons of each, I'd have to say that Code Geass is a better show overall. Bottom line, it's much more invested in its characters than most Gundam shows are (even though G Gundam is pretty good on this point), and that's what matters to me most.
Well developed characters tell good & interesting stories.
Now you can have all the explosions and special effects and fancy mech designs in the world, but if your characters aren't interesting, there's just no point.
You might as well just go watch a Michael Bay film if that's all you care about...
Or go watch Gundam Seed Destiny and worship that worthless, series stealing piece of shit Kira and his Strike Freedom.
Either way, it's all flash and no substance.
But G Gundam actually has substance. And Code Geass has tons of it.
That's why shows like these are memorable; good stories & good characters.
    And so, that's my answer.

  20. Fav Gundam Series? Gundam Seed (not destiny) loved the designs, the story kept me involved. The strike slicing the blitz in half is amazing.

Fav Mecha Series? XENOGEARS!!! While technically not a series, I loved this game when it came out and its still pretty good today. The story is a bit wacky and the mecha designs are perfect (weltall, cressent ... ect)

The better of the two? Xenogears. If you don't know why play the game. Perfection. I would love models based on it too!

    1. thanks god I thought no one ever mentions Xenogear.

I believe Fei's omnigear Xenogear is the ideal wing-shaped mecha. All recent mecha with wing all try to mimic after Xenogear design.

Just take a look at Freedom & Strike Freedom, for example. With wing spread, their outline shape will close to Xenogear looks.

Yep, if they -ever- release Fei's Xenogear model kit, even in FG scale, I'd buy in instant ^^

  21. My favourite Gundam is the Ex-S Gundam and my favourite non-Gundam mecha anime is Macross DYRL movie. These 2 are my favourites because of it's intricate mecha details and pretty good storylines. In my book, these 2 titles can beat down any of Gundam or Mecha titles hands down in terms of mecha designs and plots.

And the way I see it, I think it's pointless to compare each mecha titles as the mecha or gundam fans today are not like the mecha/gundam fans of yesterday-where we will talk about mechs, war strategies, plots, plamos and guns.

The so-called mecha/gundam fans today are only a bunch of pretentious otakus trying to sound cool and gain attentions by pretending like they know about EVERYTHING when they don't even have the interests for other things outside their narrow scope of fetishes. Especially those who called for more LITTLE GIRLS or BOYS to be in future Gundam animes, which are downright pretentious when they complained about AGE. Which is why I told one of them to stick back to MOE underage girls and TSUNDERE BL homosexual boys, mechas just aren't their things.

That is also why we have 00-the most GAY Gundam anime in Gundam history

  22. In terms of my overall enjoyment for Gundam I would have to say that MSG Movie Trilogy and Gundam 00 are tied for first place. Both shows have densely packed plots that hold up very well to repeat viewings. The MSG movies are pretty much perfect in every respect. Gundam 00 is also good because it tried a brave new direction for the franchise and I can really relate to Setsuna's journey from a child who lost everything to a man who finds new purpose in his life.

Outside Gundam I would have to say it's a toss up between Giant Robo and Gurren Lagann. Giant Robo has fantastic character development and surprisingly mature story. Gurren Lagann is great because of it's infectious optimism that can probably cure any depression.

Of the two categories, I still have to say that MSG Movie Trilogy reigns supreme. It managed to capture that feeling of imagination and magic that I haven't felt since the first time I watched the original Star Wars.

  23. I love Zeta Gundam more than any series in the franchise. It had depth built from the first, and often zany, series. It took Tomino's character development to a whole different level. I often find myself trapped in Camille's shoes: no one takes him seriously, he thinks about things from a different perspective, fights for what he believes in and has a harem of girlfriends (who doesn't want that).

However, Evangelion is my favorite non-gundam mecha series for many of the same reasons. Shinji and Camille are awfully similar characters and I feel I can relate to them. Does that make me a whiny little bitch? Certainly sometimes. But they both have deep and heavy hearts and are haunted by the repercussions of their actions.

The Zeta with its Bio-Sensor on and a berserk Evangelion 01 would be an interesting battle...but I think the Eva would be come out triumphant (however, with some serious damages).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. How would it be an interesting battle? Unit 1 could squash even the Turn A, much less a Real Robot like the Zeta.

      Delete
    2. The Bio-Sensor is a powerful and mysterous technology. I'm sure Camille's purple harem wouldn't let him go down without a fight.

      Delete
    3. Kamille's harem + biosensor > all

      Delete
    4. Ha, regardless of what hax Kamille has he is not getting through the AT Field that Unit One while Berserk can generate. You are talking about a Super Robot (do the Eva's even count as Robots?) with some absolutely obscene destructive capabilities and a master of hax and comparing it to a Gundam that wasn't even the biggest abuser of Newtype Hax (that would go to Nu with Axis, and a certain currently airing OVA Gundam has even more capabilities than it, whther it'll use them or not is yet to be seen).

Zeta would be slaughtered by Gundams from its own Timeline, much less a berserk Super Robot capable of generating inpenetrable force feilds and using them as weapons. Unit 1 while Berserk could decimate pretty much any Gundam, much less something like the Zeta. Any hax Zeta can do, Unit 1 can do far more powerful, and frankly you have to be more than a bit blinded by fanboyism to think otherwise.

      Delete
    5. Kamille's ghost harem can immobilize a suit so he can relax, make himself a cup of coffee and take potshots at it all day until it dies lol.

      Delete
    6. Meanwhile Unit 1 gets pissed off at something bothering it and proceeds to force its way out of the puny trap, before brutally killing Kamile and and eating his Gundam.

Super Robot >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Real Robot. Fact of life.

    7. @anon 3:20AM

AT field is not totally impenetrable
EVA 1 using the positron rifle kills one of the Angels without the use of AT field

certain weapons like the Wings Zero TBR, Dynamas Super Substratospheric Altitude Gun, ZZ High Mega Cannon embowered by the Bio Sensor or Hi-Nu Gundam Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher would have a chance to break through

      Delete
    8. and you mean to say that a robot that can summon the energy through a pilots brainwaves to conjure the dead and manifest their souls into power is only, as you said, a "real robot"?! ...ok...

      Delete
    9. @Anon 1:02 PM
Perhaps, however it should be noted that AT Fields differ in strength and that Unit 1 can generate some of the strongest (and depending on whether you take Rebuild as Canon, even stronger than that). In both Rebuild and the show Unit 1 absolutely decimates Zeruel, and if you go by Rebuilds it trashes Zeruel initally with unstoppable AT Fields. But even if that isn't considered canon it still uses an AT Field to attack and badly damage Zeruel in the TV series.

I honestly doubt anything a Gundam could dish out could break through an AT Field created by Unit 1 while it is Berserk. Unit 1 is just on a completely diffrent level to them, and the Angels they face as well.

      @Anon 1:46 PM
Blame the people who call Gundam a Real Robot franchise. The only suits that might be capable of being a "super robot" are the major suits in the more extravangant series. But even if you call them Super Robots they would be very low tier Super Robots. Unit 1 is just in a completey different league to them.

To put it in DBZ terms the average suit that isn't made of hax in Gundam would be Krillin and Yamcha level, the Gundams would be non-SSJ Goku at the end of the series, and Unit 1 would be SSJ3. In a serious fight it would be a one hit KO, if they were lucky for Unit 1 to end it quickly.

Now, if this was Unit 1 that wasn't Berserk I would say that some Gundams stand a chance, not a assured victory, but still a fighting chance. Berserk though? Not a single chance.

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic"

I have no problem believing that most Gundams are real robots as long as there some explanation of how things work. Even G Gundam has the mobile trace system to explain its abilities.

As for the Evas, I would say they're closer to super robots since they rely almost exclusively on the pilot's emotions for power rather than new tech or equipment. In a battle, an Eva would probably win against a Gundam because they can adapt in response to the enemy. That is, unless the Gundam successfully kills the Eva pilot first.

  24. Gundam Seed And Neon Genesis Evangelion would be my two favourite series. As for which is better, Evangelion without a doubt. Seed is good and a solid entry in the Gundam franchise and probably the last genuinly good series in this franchise, but Evangelion is one of the top anime of all time so it really doesn't matter. No Gundam series tops Eva. Seed may have had some great charactrer development and mecha designs, but Evangelion had some of the best characeters in anime along with some truly awesome fights and the designs are actually very unique.

  25. Gundam Seed Destiny is my favourite gundam series so far. Great character build up and complicated story. However I wish they could have done something with the screening: remove flashbacks, and stop using repetitive battle scenes. Can't wait for the HD version to come up.

  27. I have no favorite series of Gundam so far, thing is I have not seen enough series and of most I have to few episodes. So far I would say G-Gundam as it fits my sense of humor. For Gundam Designs however I am very fond of the AGE designs, followed closely by Unicorn.

For mecha series, here I would have to say Transformers, that is if it would be counted as a mecha series which I do not really do. Similar could say the Zords from Powerrangers, not really a mecha series either. Of what I have seen otherwise my favorite mecha series would be GunBuster, while my favorite mecha design would be God Idol from Tenchi Muyo GXP when it is fueled by both Tsunami's and Washuu's goddess powers.

Which is best, for same reasons I just cannot say. Each has it's good and bad points and it's very hard to compare. And I am not even going into the which mecha is the most powerful, different universes, different rules. It just does not work.

  28. I think Gundam is on top. If Macross wouldn't have gotten so soft with their pedo idols bs, I might have a harder time deciding.

My favorite Gundam series is 08th MS Team for its story and more realsitic display of physics when it came to the mechs.

Favorite non-Gundam anime is Code Geass. It was an interesting story full of action and plot twists. Would've been better without the high school crap, but that's just me. I'm also very fond of Break Blade, but wish it would've had more character development.

I think 08th team is superior because it's more believable, and while Code Geass was not trying to be as realistic I would not call that a flaw.

  29. - Your favorite Gundam series, why?
Favorite is MS IGLOO/IGLOO 2 series i guess. I really like how the focus is on the struggles of individuals rather than those idealistic main characters. After most episodes i feel rather emotional about the characters, especially when *spoiler* oliver may "died" and they showed the captain's expression, i really felt it.

    - Your favorite mecha series of all time, why?
Code Geass? It has a good mix of plot and mecha battles (which are always awesome).
Break/Broken Blade gets special mention too. I just love the heaviness of the mechs. Escaflowne also has it, but too much lovey dovey angst and not enough robots clanging.

    - Of the two, which series is superior, why?
As a series? idk. They are all good. As in they fight each other? lol.

  30. - Favorite Gundam series, why?
Hate all you want, but my favorite has to be Gundam SEED (NOT Destiny, JUST SEED). It takes a different approach at how war can affect the lives of young people, who are just approaching maturity. It takes a different path in terms of looking at emotions and troubles that a young person might experience when a war breaks out and completely flips their life upside down, so in a way there is some reality to it. Sure Kira can be a crybaby, but who's not going to cry AT ALL when others around them are dying? And to top it off, i like it cuz there's just a bit of romance (not a big deal of it, just a bit of it :D).

Favorite mecha series of all time?
It's gotta be Eureka 7 for me. For the most part i like it cuz of nostalgia, i remember watching the last 10 episodes on TV, and in the end i was just like "awwwwwwwwwwwwww<3". But aside from that, i think Eureka 7 is also good because of it's powerful themes of the power of the individual and love prevailing through anything. The fact that the Nirvash could respond to Renton and Eureka like it had human feelings was pretty neat too back during the first time i watched it, because i've never seen that before.

    - Which one is superior?
TBH, i really have to say Eureka 7. There is so much more i can say about it, but i find the right words haha. But to me, they both still have a special place in my heart :). If they fight each other? So if the Freedom and Nirvash fought each other, i don't know who would win really, but it'd be cool to watch :D

  31. (- Of the two, which series is superior, why?)

Not very clear to most people commenting here because for sure a lot if not most other mecha shows have super powerful robots compared to Gundam universe so if you're asking which series is superior in terms of mecha then ANY Gundam would be easily defeated.

But if what you meant was which series is superior overall including story/plot, mecha/character designs then Gundam will have a good fight.

I have watched other mecha series as well like Evangelion, Mazinger and others but I'm not into them. It's just I really Love Gundam series because...

  32. - Your favorite Gundam series, why?
My fave is Gundam SEED Destiny, because I like how the series betrayed and disappoints the old time Gundam fans who only wished to have a good series and it's only catered for just SEED fans especially Kirap Yamato fans.

    - Your favorite mecha series of all time, why?
Patlabor, because imo it is one of the most realistic mecha series.

    - Of the two, which series is superior, why?
All SEED series, because nothing and I mean nothing or nobody can beat SEED fans. period

  33. the only other mecha i really watched was code geass. code geass started out ok but just got batsh!t crazy after halfway. what really captures my interest about gundam is mech design and character development, particularly in the UC timeline. i find it very compelling to follow the careers of characters especially in UC, where you can follow some characters for over a decade and watch them grow and mature, and witness the evolution of their ideals. Gundam has enthralled me so much that i'm unwilling to check out other mecha anime for fear of disappointment, which ironically enough happens very often for me with other timelines of gundam haha

  37. To be honest, the Gundam franchise is my favorite scifi franchise, yet as far as mecha anime in general go, I don't really have a favorite. The macross series that I was able to watch have been good. Same with Fafner, Getter Robo, Mazinger,Code Geass,Broken Blade, and Escaflowne. Evangelion and Gurren Lagann were pretty good, but I didn't really like their endings. Long story short, I F@#king love mecha anime. and if anyone has some good recomendations, please reply

  40. 1) There are too many favorites than a single favorite.

    2) Broken Blade, hands down. Territorial wars, class wars, politics on-off the battlefield, a romance plotline very reminiscent of the doomed King Arthur-Guinevere-Lancelot tale, PTSD..I can go on and on. Gundam has been...very skin-deep on these issues; the recent few series only made brief mentions of such issues but lack scope and depth in portraying perhaps the real protagonists and victims of war: the civilian, the father, the businessman. In the more recent Gundam, the sense and depth of camaraderie fostered during times of war have been reduced to mere onscreen time and last-minute confessions. Truly, do we ever dismiss our departed friends as cursorily as Gundam tends to do recently? Scrap the deus ex machina stories. Fancy terms like "X-Rounder", "SEED mode" and "Innovator" are branches of the Newtype idea of UC. Forget new-fangled machines capable of blasting hordes of enemies; we've Call of Duty and other shooter games for that. There is simply little, if not absent, realism in Gundam recently.

    3) The metrics one use for comparison of superiority is subjective. Some prefer fancy, over-complicated machines and weaponry. Some prefer dialogue and emotional attachment to the characters. Some look at the societal issues implied. Others prefer to grab popcorn and soda while criticizing the high-definition effects of the series in question. A concentrated few prefer to be mechanical drones, parroting "my series is better than yours" like a broken machine out of electricity. I plead the Fifth, if only to prevent myself from being dragged into flame wars.

  41. 1) My favorite Gundam series is 00 season 1, because i like the MS designs, very different, cool, unique, and of course because Exia use SWORD..!! love the characters (the girls.. :P). I enjoyed the story as well, I remember when Lockon dead, very sad moment.. :(

    2) My favorite mecha series is Code Geass, just one word, GENIUS..!!! Feels like watching deathnote & gundam at the same time.

    3) Which one the best?? hmm... Shin Getter Robo..!! LOL (just kidding... :P) very difficult question... both are great..!!! i want to see Zero piloted a gundam... :)

  42. Cant really name a gundam series, but I like UC. specifically the time line between z and zz cause the mecha designs are just awesome.
I've seen a lot of mecha series though: macross, getter robo, Braves, SRW, just to name a few. But if I had to pick my fav mecha of all time, Genesic Gao Gair Gar the god of destruction. And the series isnt that great, the ovas are pretty good. But c'mon its design looks so demonic and god like although chunky. And I dont think anything will surpass super robos cept girls......in super robots.

  43. Favorite Gundam series is 0083, most realistic, no supernatural New-Type power, good story and fantastic mecha design, Dendrobium and Neue Ziel...

Favorite mecha series of all time is Patlabor, realistic mecha design, well-developed characters, good story/ humor/ slice of life, can relate to real life

I like Patlabor better, grown attached to the normal, non-perfect, quirky characters over time...

Gundam Seed Destiny, Wing, & 00. They all has cool mecha design.

    - Your favorite mecha series of all time ?
for series: Chojou Kishin Dancougar (1985). I love its OP and ED theme. ^^ . If you play SRW games you should hear it a lot. :)
for mecha: Xenogears, and Wanzer in Front Mission.

    - Of the two, which series is superior ?
    Dancougar is superior on story.
Gundam is superior on model kit.
Xenogear is the most powerful mecha.
Wanzer is the most realistic mecha (the most feasible mecha to be built).

  45. Favorite Gundam Shows: None, why? well as much as I love gundam, the stories just don't reach out me as much as other mecha or anime shows in particular. But Unicorn is doing good though, depending on how well the show is executed thru the end, it might pass to be my first true favorite series. I'm learning something more with each episode of Unicorn which is quite rare for a gundam show, cause TBH, I learn more from the antagonists than from the protagonists themselves.

Overall, I see all gundam shows fairly equal.

Favorite Mecha Shows: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann hands down. This is what I'm searching for in a show, it doesn't have to be so overly complicated with the technologies and shit. It doesn't have to have a super powered protagonist, be all angsty or neither that does it have to be so war-related nor be to idealistic. Unlike gundam, TTGL was something I can pretty much relate to. The adversities in real life were like the beastmen and Lord Genome. But once you got over them, comes an even bigger threat which are the Anti-Spirals. In the end, even if you do defeat your greatest enemy, which basically is yourself and your fears (Anti-spirals represented this very well as they fought Team Daigurren with the exact same power and in exact same form they used and that the Anti-Spirals didn't want to exceed themselves more, being content with what they already are because of their fears of the Spiral Nemesis), you're never guaranteed a happy ending, Team Daigurren lost their leader as he left and Simon still lost his love, but they all went on with their lives living on for everyone's sake.

    1. You're right, none of the Gundam shows have reached that level of literary excellence to considered a masterpiece. Even Unicorn is just another attempt by Bandai to push new model kits rather than any real concern for the story. I think partly why Gurren Lagann is so good is because it's completely original and not chained to a franchise or toy companies. Regardless, the purpose of any show is to entertain me so if can do that, I don't have any problem labeling it my favorite.

  47. I would say my favourite Gundam series is Sentinel Gundam, with Ex-S being my favourite design. This is because ALICE, the AI is an interesting feature prevalent throughout the series. For a Gundam to learn as it is exposed to battle, I find that surprisingly refreshing.

Now, I'm not much of a mecha fan outside of Gundam, so the only other series would be Evangelion. Which is unusual because I associate Evangelion more for the pilots and the people, rather than the actual Angels VS Eva. This fascination by the mindf*** elements to Evangelion, in turn made me enjoy the bloodlust and berserk nature of the units.

However, if I were to compare the two series. I would have to say that Ex-S stands a better chance than Eva units in a battle. This is due to the mobility, operation duration and battle environment displayed by the Ex-S. Whilst constantly moving, it can rely on the Beam Smart Gun to evade the relatively slower attacks by Eva. Furthermore, piloted by an AI capable of taking the best calculated move, it can overcome Eva's tendency to rely on pilot instinct and emotion.

Lastly, Ex-S can, in more ways than one, destroy the facility that holds the Eva unit alive. Of course some would say that Eva units can become alive but then, I would like to introduce you to Deepstriker. My opinions are biased though and to be honest, if Shinji was the Ex-S pilot, I would vote for Evangelion.

  49. Best gundam serie? Zeta hands down. I love ZZ and CCA which followed right after. I started with wing and when i was told about all those series that came before i never looked back. SEED and Destiny (so much angst wow) were a low to me in my books.

Fav non gundam is Code Geass/Macross. I love macross for the mechs gawd who can say no to a valkyrie and if you can get around the pedo idols as someone mentioned before its pretty sweet. As for Geass - the story was one of the best out there for me. Honorable mention to Gurren Lagan

Who would win? Gundams can dish out the pain but valkyries are faster + throw in a few Macross units and this game is over.

  50. - Your favorite Gundam series, why?
Gundam 00 and Gundam Seed. I like the design. I also like how the story was told. It’s like what is really happening in the world today.

    - Your favorite mecha series of all time, why?
Macross, Voltron (Lion), Saber Rider, Zone of the Enders and Voltes 5. I would never be interested in mechas if not for these mechs. Right now, my super favorite is Macross Frontier. I like the mechs and I love the songs.

    - Of the two, which series is superior, why?
Macross. Because I collected Macross kits and not Gundam. I guess that tells why the series is superior. Not because this is more powerful than that. I guess this is more like preference. I also love the remake of Obbo Itte Imasu Ka (Do You Remember Love) by Ranka Lee (Megumi Nakajima).
