Giant Mecha Movie: Pacific Rim - Film Trailer

Gaint Mecha Movie!... is not Gundam... is not Evangelion... Is Pacifc Rim
Pacific Rim is an upcoming science fiction film directed by Guillermo del Toro based on a screenplay by Travis Beacham. The film is set in a world where soldiers piloting giant robots battle against giant monsters who have mysteriously risen from beneath the ocean. The film will be an homage to Japanese giant monster films, known as Kaiju worldwide. Del Toro has said the film will be "a beautiful poem to giant monsters".
The film will be released in 3-D and IMAX 3D on July 12, 2013.
Plot:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, start rising from the sea, a war begins that takes millions of lives and consumes humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon is devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers prove nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

  1. Thank you for putting in "this is not evangelion".
The amount of people comparing this to EVA on the youtube trailer is beyond retarded. No wonder I have no interest in the rebuild movies, the fans are idiots.

    1. THe people comparing this to EVA is retarded, EVA has a totally different setting and set of characters. They are retarded because they compare something as cheap as this to the Rebuild.

And you are an idiot for having no interest in the Rebuild because it if at least 10 times better than the crappy original anime.

    2. so you don't like a movie because you don't like the fans.
      FIGHT THE POWER!!!

      idiot

    3. The original anime was better and if you think the rebuild is 10 times better then you are 10 times retarded, its has less character development and a higher portion of time attributed to action scenes. If you base rebuild's superiority on the action then you miss the point of EVA.
The rebuild movies bore me as they are only made as giant fan service to EVA fans who think it is some ground breaking series that changed anime forever.

    4. Wow!! Just WOW, original anime more character development, way to show you know understanding nothing of what you said.

You expected because it is a movie, it supposed to have less time for character development. You expected, by watching nothing more than the trailer, which include nothing but the flashy battle, because it is for marketing purposes, that it has nothing more than that. Totally wrong. Really, this just show how shallow a person that pretending he knows something he hasn't watch.
The anime were DRAGGING OUT, long long long and has nothing done to the character. Shinji remained to be a coward hikikomori, Rei was nothing but a machine until she got boosted in popularity thanks to the nude giant scenes, Asuka was just the most annoying female cast and sorry, the way she was portrayed in the anime, not a lot people feel she needs any sympathy.

The Rebuild although is shorter, the character were actually "developed", literally, and FINALLY. They've grown, they've changed. Shinji show much more dedication towards piloting EVA to save someone, he didn't care shit in the anime. Rei becoming more girlish, more human, Yes! Asuka, now we feel sympathy for here. Great!

Well at least I can agree that the anime has more time for character development, "wasted time" that is, nothing was achieved, character stayed the same. Thus, the movie has overall 10 times better "quality" development than the original.
      Better stop assuming things, kid.

    5. Shinji grows a sack in the movie 2 so that alone makes it worth a watch for me haha.

Anyway... Pacific Rim, can't f**king wait!

    6. Holy shit, I knew hard-on Evangelion fans were soft-brained spastics who should drink their own enema-bags, but jesus-fucking-christ how dumb are you? You see robots fighting monsters, and you think of Evangelion? Try Mazinger, you doughy little twerps. Or any of the other Go Nagai shows that kind of, you know, invented the concept. People have the memory span of gnats anymore and can't get their little dicks out of anything that isn't popular this WEEK. Oh, and by the way? Evangelion, in any incarnation, is WAAAAAY fucking over-rated. It doesn't suck mind you, but unbelievably over-rated. And people who think that they are really deep for analyzing it are among the saddest, deluded creatures on the planet.

    7. @11:05 Anon

Your post is the most retarded post...ever, lol. It doesn't remotely answer anything these guys above have been debating and you flame on the wrong people too.
They are saying they don't think this is related to EVA. However, I have to agree that the original was overrated but the Movie didn't.

    8. WOW, I just bashed on the original anime and there's someone bash on me for having the same view as his!

Jumping to conclusion is nothing less than the only thing kids will do these days on Internet. Let me rephrase what I said for your tiny little bird brain to understand. I said the Movie is great and it's 10 times better than the uber-over-rated anime. I spent my posts went through why it was overrated. Although have I ever say the Rebuild is the best thing ever? I said it's stupid for kids like you to not watch due to your shallow judgement on nothing but trailers because it's a great revamp of a sucky anime!

Eat your own word, son. Because you are nothing more than what you said, a pathetic deluded creature that doesn't know how to focus to understand people's post.

Ah crap, I think I'm lost... stupid Google Map told me to take this direction, but I seem to have found the Evangelion forums... can someone redirect me to the Pacific Rim conversation?

  4. I, for one, am somewhat interested. At least it can't be as bad as G-Saviour...though Mark Curran is obviously still the best pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  5. looks interesting! but giant robot live action film never seems right for some reasons, probably a bad after taste from G-Saviour?

  6. The Jaegers seems bigger than Gundam. Are they?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Much bigger. Looking at one of the blueprints for the US Jaeger, it says 88 meters in height. The RX-78-2 is 18.5 meters.

      Delete
    2. The RX-78-2 is far from the tallest Gundam, though. Suits like the Zeta, the Nu,and the Shinanju are taller than it. That's not even bringing in mobile armors such as the Psycho Gundam (41m in MS mode) and the Big Zam(59.6m).

  7. People spamming EVA are fucking annoying
It's like it's the only mecha vs giant monster they've seen

Them spamming the same shit over and over again is annoying as the "revenge for pearl harbor" and the "AGE is for kids" faggots

    1. That's because AGE IS for kids. you dumbass.

    2. says who you little pissant

    3. @anon 9:14
so im guessing you never watched AGE
AGE kills its characters left and right like Victory

      Delete
    4. Oh, please. Bandai announced when they first announced AGE was that it was intended for a younger demographic. So people die in this show, big deal. Gundam mostly caters to the 8-14 year old demographic primarily-it just so happens that the franchise has attracted an older audience. What is considered acceptable for children to view in your country most likely differs from what is in Japan.

  8. I sincerely hope this movie does well. We need a serious take on mecha (not that Michael Bay crap) and hope this is it.

Unfortunately mecha and kaiju are niche genres over here so I can picture people dismissing this movie as a Transformers wannabe.

  9. Mechanical Design sucks. Least they could've done was design a better looking robot that doesn't look like a giant man wearing a Halo suit.

    jeez.

  10. Don't judge the movie yet, complain after you have seen it...hehe

  12. uuuhhhh.....
as an automotive enthusiast, i couldn't help but notice there's Ford Ka in Californian plate(?) among the other California-plated cars, when Ford never sells their Ka range in US for obvious reasons...

well, i could find a mistake even before the movie starts screening XD hahahahahaha.........

  13. Man...if can't wait for another live action gundam movie....hopefully there will be ....hopefuly.......g-savior no likey

  14. UGH! I now know to stock up on lotion and napkins prior to going to the theater opening night. This looks amazing, and I want Legendary to make a$$loads of money on this.
I sincerely hope we see figures and kits based on the mech's an daikaju.
As for the incessant Evangelion comments to each their own but, Eva units from what I understand are bio-mechanical. Not true mech suits. So technically, there shouldn't be a comparison. These kaiju are outer dimensional monsters, not "angels".
Having said that, there are other anime/movies one can say this film was influenced by.

  15. I fail to see how this is similar to Eva. I am a fan of the original and the rebuilds.
If anything this is a throwback (as the posting says above) to the classic Japanese monster horror movies.
The suit design reminds me of a weird looking Iron Monger suit and the control premise is similar to Robot Wars movie and G-Gundam control system

"I fail to see how KITT is similar to the Batmobile or The Mach Five, I mean sure he's got an intelligent computerized personality and all those gadgets and TV screens and lights and junk... and sure he has that whole jumping thing going on... but if anything he's really more of a throwback to Herbie The Lovebug! Also Viper, what was that sh*t? Viper wasn't even self-aware!"
