  1. You can tell at first glance how much Bandai slacked off on these 2012 HGUC kits when it comes to color apps.

  2. Agreed. It's kinda disappointing. The Juagg and the Zee Zulu both had way more appeal to me than this kit, and I am normally a huge Zaku fan.

  3. Well, the Juagg and Zee Zulu looked as if they were worked on by the modeller. This one is straight out of the package assembled, but not painted or panel-lined. So I don't think it's that fair to compare them...

  4. I agree w/ Anon 11:36p

Another thing to keep in mind, if you watched Gundam UC Ep 5, the Zaku Mariner is meant to be an 'antique' mobile suit. It was one the mobile suits used by remnant Zeon soldiers for guerrilla warfare, and since it's leftover from the 0088 (Gundam ZZ era), meaning it's at least 5 years old--which is old in MS development. I think it's meant to look 'classical' in color app. Or in other words, BADLY colored.

On a side note about the Zee Zulu (featured above); this is a repaint that was done a little while ago. GG had a post showcasing it. That 'water camo' color is not how it looks OOB.

  5. Its being an "antique" mobile suit is certainly no excuse to employ "antique" model kit engineering. In fact, it should mean that Bandai should try to put in a little extra effort. But if Bandai keeps up with this trend, HG is going to turn into the new SD.
Also, the HGUC Zulu kits were amazing in when it came to part separation and color apps, even if out-of-the-box. These new kits are just pathetic.
