Gundam AGE to Have Side Project Aimed at Grown-Up Fans [News via AnimeNewsNetwork]

Bandai Hobby's Toshiaki Baba reveals project in early stages to satisfy UC fans
In the 19th issue of Futabasha's Great Mechanics magazine that shipped on Thursday, Bandai Hobby staff member Toshiaki Baba revealed that a side project of Mobile Suit Gundam AGE is now in the early stages for existing Gundam fans.
Baba emphasized that the project is for grown-ups, and that the staff intends to make it a "thoroughly dark" story that "even fans of [the first Gundam anime's] Universal Century timeline can be satisified with." He did not specify what medium that project will be in.
Baba and Great Mechanics' interviewer were discussing how the main Mobile Suit Gundam AGE project has major elements aimed at children, such as the manga in Shogakukan's Monthly Corocoro Comic magazine.
Sunrise, the anime studio behind the Gundam franchise, is collaborating with game developer Level-5 and its president, Akihiro Hino, on Gundam AGE. The anime premiered on October 9.

  1. i don't think thoroughly "dark" is what we fans are asking for. Just not as childish.

  3. I love Age so far and from the looks of the Age-2 I can only imagine it'll get even better. I look forward to whatever this turns out to be, I'm sure it'll be fantastic

  4. :/ Well, I guess Bandai has to try to please ALL their fans.
I don't blame them for trying to reach out to us all, but it's a sad sight to see them cave in to all these haters.

  6. wow, who's really childish here. People asking for something better or the ones hurling abuse at other fans?

The sooner this ends and the sooner we get back to real Gundam the better.

  7. It's mainly because Gundam Age merchandise isn't selling as well as Bandai intended. Sunrise is getting a lot of pressure from Bandai.

  8. Doesn`t matter the content of the story.

If they don`t drop the childish character design this show will continue to stink.

  9. If the Gundam Age merchandise isn't selling well it's not because the plot is aimed at kids. It's because its mecha designs are boring. If they had actually interesting designs then Bandai would be able to sustain its sales, which primarily come from adults, without having to change the story of Age.

  10. I think most ppl like the story and the detail of the hundred year timeline thats cool. They brought back alot of stuff from older series too. But i think most ppl hat the art design.
